Deer In The Headlights

Alex's p.o.v.

"So,Jack, how're you feeling?" I asked, smiling. I can't believe how we can just meet like this again. How is this even possible? Jack looked down at the table, looking quite puzzled.

"Jack?" I asked. I needed him to lift his head so I could see into those dark brown eyes again. But he just wasn't having it. I would've got him a hot chocolate, but there wasn't any here.

"Jack, what's the matter?" I asked with concern. I started playing with my fingers under the desk. I bit my lip as well. I can't help but to think that I'm the problem.

Moments later of sitting in silence, I decided to get up. I walked over to Jack and kneel beside him. Jack's head was buried in his arms that were on the table. I tried to move my head under his armpit to try to see his face, but he shuffled his head further. It was clear that Jack was crying silently as a tear fell onto the floor.

I placed my chin just above Jack's knee. I then tilted my head so my cheek was on his leg. I nozzled my head in attempt to get his attention. I kept rubbing my nose and cheek on his leg like a dog. Why was he not responding.

"A-Alex, stop." Jack whispered, a sniff coming shortly after. And I did stop.

I got up higher so I was bending just a little and rubbed my nose against Jack's ear that was covered by his hair. I smiled and I kept rubbing gently against his ear. I was like a dog trying to get it's owner's attention. Jack groaned, moving his arms and head further away from me and across the table. I sighed. He really didn't want to look at me. I need to think of something else to get his attention.

I know...

I walked over to a corner away from Jack and sat down. I opened my legs and put my hands in the space between my legs. I sat there, smirking as my plan was about to start.

I lifted my head up and a loud, annoying whine came from my mouth. I was howling like a puppy.

"Ooowwhh," I lifted my head up everytime I 'howled'

"Come and feed me, I'm hungry. Owwhh." I chuckled quietly to myself, finding this quite funny. I saw Jack cover his ears, so I carried on louder. Hopefully, these rooms are soundproof.

"Owwhh." I basically screamed an howl. I had to bit my lip for a little while to try and prevent my laughter from spilling. How can Jack simply ignore that sound? I howled again, trying my best to make it sound more annoying.

"Alex, I swear to God if you don't stop that-"

"Owwhh?" I winced, pretending to be a puppy that was just been told off...or been stood on.

"Oh my god, that was so cute!" Jack blurted out off nowhere and got out his seat. He quickly walked over to me and sat on his knees in front of me.

"Hello there." He sniffed, ruffling my hair a little. I tilted my head and looked as a tear fell down Jack's face. I quickly leaned forward a licked the tear that was running down his cheek.

"Ew what the fuck Alex? That was gross." He shouted, but chuckled after. I lowered my head and pouted, pretending to look hurt.

"Awh, no, don't be sad. I didn't mean it." Jack cooed and wrapped his arms around me. I smiled into the hug and nozzled into Jack's neck, making sure I licked it a little. Wow, I'm such a creep.

"I didn't mean it." I whispered to Jack. Jack pulled back and looked at me with a confused frown.

"What?" He asked, starring at me in the eyes. I bit my lip. I really needed to apologise to him.

"For not saying goodbye." I mumbled, but made sure it was clear enough for him to hear. The truth is, I didn't want to say goodbye. I didn't want to say goodbye and get hurt. I never liked saying goodbye. I only say it to people that don't really mean a lot to me.

Jack starred at me for a little while before attacking me with a hug. I freaked out a little because I wasn't expecting it, but I soon got comfortable.

"It's okay, little pup." Jack said smoothly.

"little pup?" I asked. I found the name weird, but at the same time, I thought it was cute.

"Yeah,that's what you are, right? Or was you a whale? You was a whale wasn't you? God dammit." He laughed. Oh my god,that laugh.

"Maybe a whale-pup?" I suggested. I felt Jack nod into the hug. Whale-pup it is.

Moments later, I decided to break the hug, just in case my boss walked in. I shuffled back over to the table, and Jack followed shortly. We ended up sitting in silence, lost in what ever thoughts we had. It ended up in twenty minutes of silence until Jack decided to say something.

"Hey, um, Alex?" Jack asked quietly. I looked up to meet his eyes and answer with a "yeah?" I saw him take a deep breath in.

"I was just wondering, um, could I have your number? I know I will be seeing you for most of the week, but I just, I don't know. I guess to talk to you outside of therapy?" He said shyly. Why is this boy so cute? I nodded but I realised Jack's head was down.

"Yeah, that'll be cool." I smiled. I got my phone out and handed it to Jack. He only got my phone number and I didn't get his because there was a knock on the door. Jack handed me my phone back and I called a "come in"

"Uh, Jack, your time is over. Alex, was you keeping track of time?" An assistant asked. Shit.

"Time's over? Sorry, I didn't keep track of time. Well, I'll see you again, Jack. It was nice speaking to you." I said, adding in the cheeky smile. Jack smiled back, but it looked a little sad.

"You too." Jack said shortly before walking out the door with the assistant. Damn, today was interesting.
