the Prince and the Punk

Truth Be Told, I Was Never Yours

Jack hadn't realized, but he'd dozed off with the drunken Alex curled into his side. When he wake up he was confused and had nearly forgotten of the events only hours earlier. He shifts and glances down, finding Alex's head in his lap. He almost jumps, but manages to keep still, seeing as Alex was still fast asleep. The memories from earlier come back and Jack blushes. He wondered if Alex actually meant that or if he was just too wasted for his own good.

Jack reaches forward to grab the remote off of the coffee table, hoping to not wake Alex. He was probably sleeping off the drunk right now. A small groan from Alex is emitted as Jack moves. His eyes flutter open and he looks at Jack, a blush burning across his cheeks. Alex scrambles to sit up, averting his eyes from Jack's. Jack couldn't decide whether it was due to the close proximity or if he remembered confessing that he liked Jack.

"'lex," Jack mumbles looking at his hands.

"Yeah-Yeah," Alex stutters, the blush still on his face.

"Do you," Jack pauses a moment. "Do you remember-uh-telling me that uh-"

Alex cuts him off. "I do."

"Well, was it true?" Jack finds his face turning red as well.

Alex scoffs. "Only three types of people tell the truth, kids, angry people, and drunks."

Jack examines Alex's feature carefully, he seemed rather upset for someone who had just admitted to having a crush on some one he had only know a little over a week. "I like you too," Jack mumbles quietly.

Alex lets out a long sigh. "Listen, Jack. It's out in the open that I have a crush on you now and everything, but I don't want to drag you down with me by dating. I'm already on the road of self destruction and you have a future. I'm sorry." Alex stands up and heads for the door. "I just can't do that to you. We can still be friends and everything, just . . . just not like that." Alex pauses at the door and Jack hears him mumble something he can't quite make out. "Bye Jack, see you later!" Alex puts on a grin and waves bye, before leaving the apartment.

"Bye 'lex," Jack mumbles, already feeling his voice being weighed down by threatening sobs. When Jack is sure Alex is completely out of the building he lets himself break down, sobbing into the couch pillow incoherently. He shouldn't feel this way right now. He had barely known Alex a week, and their first few encounters were less than pleasant. But here he was crying over him as though he'd just lost the love of his life.

Which he might as well have.

Notes
