Singing.

KAY

Jack opened the bus door to the sight of Alex on the couch, strumming his acoustic and singing the words to Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". Rian was at the table, drumming along and Zack was in the kitchen making toast. Everything seemed pretty normal, despite Zack making toast at four in the afternoon.
"Sup, faggots?" Jack said, walking into the room.
"Toast?" Zack offered us.
"No thanks." I laughed.
"Jack! Picketh up thy acoustic axe and strummeth Green Day with me!" Alex said. He sounded so excited.
Jack grabbed his guitar and sat down opposite of him. I took a seat across the table from Rian and sang along quietly as Alex started to sing.
"I walk a lonely road, the only road that I have ever known. Don't know where it goes, but its home to me and I walk alone, I walk alone." There was no possible way that anyone could have heard me, but Rian somehow did.
"You sound awesome. Sing louder." He whispered to me.
"Are you kidding me? I'm awful." I whispered back.
"Please sing louder? You sound really great." He looked into my eyes. Normally, I would have brushed him off and stopped all together, but his look told me that he wasn't lying.
I sighed, then rejoined Alex, but loud enough so the others could hear me. "My shadow's the only one who walks beside me, my shallow heart's the only thing that's beating. Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me, til then I walk alone."
Alex and Jack turned to face me, mouths agape.
"Holy shit." Jack whispered.
"You can sing?" Alex asked. I shrugged in response.
"Seriously. You sounded amazing." Jack said.
"Told you." Rian smirked.
"Why didn't you tell me you could sing?" Jack continued.
"I didn't think I could." My cheeks were on fire. I was on fire. I just wanted to run away so they would stop staring at me.
"Sing the girl part." Alex commanded as he started to strum the intro to Remembering Sunday. I began to protest but Jack grabbed my hand.
When Alex got to the part where I came in, I took a deep breath and began to sing,
"I'm not coming back, I've done something so terrible, I'm terrified to speak, but you'd expect that from me. I'm mixed up, I'll be blunt. Now the rain is just washing you out of my hair, and out of my mind, keeping an eye on the world from so many thousands of feet off the ground. I'm over you now, I'm at home in the clouds, towering over your head."
Alex finished the song and Jack squeezed my hand.
"I recorded you, If you wanna hear it." Zack said.
"S-sure." I stuttered, embarrassed out of my mind. He pressed a button on his phone and the song began to play. When it finished, all I could say was, "Wow. I didn't even know I sounded like that." I blushed again.
"Please perform it with me on the next four dates."
"I don't know..." I muttered. The thought of getting up on stage and singing made my stomach seize up.
"Please Kay." Alex whined.
"I can't get up in front of thousands of people! I can barely sing infront of you four!" I said.
"Kay, you sounded beautiful. You can do it. You're great." Jack said, squeezing my hand tightly. Rian, Zack, and Alex made sounds of agreement.
"Okay, I guess I will." I smiled weakly.
"You'll do great Kay, I promise." Jack smiled "I have faith in you."
"Believe you, me." Alex said with a serious face, causing me to crack up.
"Who wants a beer?" Zack said, moving to the refrigerator.
We spent the rest of the evening laughing and drinking.

I rolled over in my bunk the next morning, only to roll right into a wide awake Jack.
"Morning, beautiful." He smiled.
"Morning, faggot." I grinned.
"Rude." He said, kissing me.
"You love it." I murmured into his lips.
"I really do." He smiled. "You ready to sing today?"
"Not really. But I'll try."
"You'll do great and the fans will love you. I promise."
"Pinky swear?" I said, holding up my pinky.
"Pinky swear." Jack said, linking fingers with me.
"Wake up, motherfuckers!" Alex yelled from the aisle. "Four more shows to go!"
"Let's do this shit!" Zack yelled below us.
I pulled back the curtain and jumped down. I grabbed a tank top and shorts and went to the bathroom to change. When I walked out, I asked "What time is the show today?"
"Noon." Vinny answered me. "So, I hear you've got quite the voice." He stated.
"That's what the guys keep telling me." I shrugged.
"I heard the recording. You should believe them." He said, patting my back.
"Thanks, Vinny." I smiled. Over the two weeks I've been with the band, Vinny and I have gotten to be good friends.
"You're going to do great today." He said, exiting the bus. I grabbed my phone and followed him.

JACK

"We go on in five, bro." Alex said to me.
We were back stage in New York City. Kay was at my side and I could tell she was already nervous. I wrapped my arm around her small waist and pulled her close to me. I whispered in her ear, "Just remember that you'll do great. I'll be onstage the whole time, right behind you. If you get scared, just close your eyes and concentrate on the words." She nodded. "Remembering Sunday is halfway through the set. Alex is going to introduce you, so just come out when he says your name." She nodded again.

"Alright guys! Lets do this!" Alex said, picking up his guitar. I pulled Kay close and kissed her. "You'll be great. Pinky swear." I reassured her. I grabbed my guitar and started to walk toward the guys, who had congregated near the entrance to the stage. I turned back to her to see her looking at her phone. "Oh, Kay?" I said. She looked up. "I love you."

A wide smile crept across her face. "I love you, too."
The guys and I ran out on stage and began to play "For Baltimore".

KAY

"Hey, Matt, could I have a set list?"
"Sure. Good luck today." He smiled and handed my a sheet of paper. Remembering Sunday was the sixth song down. I went and sat by the stage door. My heart was already pounding in my chest and my hands were shaking. I had to occupy myself. I untied and tied my Converse. I texted Andy. I scrolled through my Twitter feed. By then, they were on song number three. I looked around the small room for a familiar face. By the door, I saw Kellin leaning by a wall. I shrugged to myself and walked up to him.
"Hey, Kellin." I said.
"Oh, hey, Kay, right? Jack's girlfriend."
"That's me." I smiled.
"I heard you're singing today."
"Yeah." I smiled. "I'm really nervous."
"Don't be. Zack played me the recording. You're great."
"Oh, thanks." I must admit, Kellin complimenting me made me want to explode in a fiery burst of fangirl.
Just then, I heard Alex say, "Okay, guys. We're going to slow things down a bit. Here's Remembering Sunday, and helping me out is the lovely Kay Meyers!"
"That's my cue." I said to Kellin, practically running out onstage as he yelled "Break a leg!"
Jack handed me a microphone with a wink as I passed him. "Remember what I told you." He whispered. I stood next to Alex, who was seated on a stool.
"Hey. Fancy meeting you here." I smiled to him.
"She's also quite the comedian." He smirked. "Anyway, here's Remembering Sunday." He began to play the intro. "He woke up from dreaming and put on his shoes. Started making his way past two in the morning, he hasn't been sober for days. Sing!" I pointed my mic to the crowed.
"Leaning now, into the breeze, remembering Sunday, he falls to his knees. They had breakfast together, but two eggs don't last like the feeling of what he needs."
"You guys sound fucking amazing." Alex smiled. Right then, all of my nerves left me. Alex sang up to my part and then turned to me. I inhaled and closed my eyes, just as Jack told me to.
"I'm not coming back, I've done something so terrible. I'm terrified to speak, but you'd expect that from me."
Someone whistled and yelled "Yeah, girl!"
I smiled and sang, "I'm mixed up, I'll be blunt, now the rain is just washing you our of my hair, and..."
I opened my eyes and took in the crowd. "Out of my mind, keeping an eye on the world from so many thousands of feet off the ground. I'm over you now, I'm at home in the clouds, towering over your head." The crowed cheered. I blushed and started to tear up. They were cheering for me. Never in my entire life had I thought that this would happen. Alex sang the song to a close. I walked towards Jack, who was standing slightly off stage.
"Give it up for Kay!" Alex said, causing the crowd to cheer again. "Doesn't she have a beautiful voice?"
The crowd yelled in agreement, and some girl shouted, "Marry me, Alex!"
"I will not, for my heart is pledged to Jack." He laughed. Meanwhile, I reached Jack, who pulled me into a tight hug.
"Told you." He whispered, kissing the top of my head.
I walked us out of sight of the crowd.
"Sorry, I didn't want this to end up on Twitter." I said, standing up on my toes to kiss him.
He smiled into my lips. "Good thinking." He said, kissing me again.
