You Have My Heart, At Least For The Most Part

I was finally home. I had a great day at school, I have to admit it, but it was kind of stressful to take care of a lot of teenagers. I sat at my red couch and decided to watch some tv after correcting the exams I made the kids make today.

When the show was over, I stood up, make myself a cup of coffee and sat at the kitchen table to start correcting.

About an hour later, I got to Alex's test. The thing is that... it was blank. He hadn't written anything. Didn't he understand? From what I've seen from other years, he had very good grades. I sighed. The next day I would have to talk to the boy.



When I woke up, it was late. In fifteen minutes I had to be already in my classroom..., and it took me ten minutes to get ready. I would be late. In the second day. Shit.

I went to the bathroom and quickly styled my hair. I ran to my room and put on the first thing I found. A Blink 182 shirt, blue skinny jeans and my black Converse. Luckily, the school allows the teachers to go informal. Well, except you use something... uh... provocative. Then, I flew to the kitchen and grabbed some cookies to eat in the car ride to school.

When I was already in my grey car, I allowed myself to relax a little. I had now five minutes to get to school, and the car ride were ten. I put my Fall Out Boy CD and started singing. I wasn't a bad singer, but I preferred playing the guitar.

I stopped my car in the parking lot and ran to the gates. Suddenly, I felt someone collapse with me.

"No! I'm so sorry Mr. Barakat!" I looked down to find the brunette blushing. I smiled at him.

"It's okay, Alexander. Now, shouldn't you be in class already?"

"I'm late." He said.

"That's two of us then." Alex looked up and smiled at me. Then he mumbled a little goodbye and turned around, but I remembered something and grabbed his wrist. "Wait! Um, Alexander, I have to talk to you after class. Okay?" He nodded and continue walking. I did the same. I was already a few minutes late.

"Hello class! So, as I told my other students, I corrected the mini-tests you did yesterday. They weren't as good as I was expecting from a group of seniors, but they weren't that bad. Well, I will call your name and you will have to come to my desk to get your tests." I said, and started calling their names. The last one was Alex's, I hadn't expected to talk to him on the morning, so his sheet had a little sticky note that said "See you after class ... :/ "

If I tell you the truth, I was worried about this kid. Why hadn't he wrote anything? On thing is if you make everything wrong, at least you tried, but if he didn't make anything...

My phone started buzzing. I had a call from an unknown number. I told my class to wait for me in silence while I went outside to talk.

"Hello?" I said.

"Jack... Long time has passed since the last time we talked, right?"

I froze. That voice... "Abby?"

"Yup, it's me, dumbass. I miss you."

"I can't say the same thing."

"Oh, Jack... You're exactly like when we were teens. You can't lie, I know you."

I sighed. "Anyways, how did you get my number?"

She laughed. "May gave it to me. Remember we are still friends?" I cursed May under my breath.

"You can go and fuck your self. I have to work. Bye." And with that, I ended the call. Tonight I'm going to give a call to my awesomely stupid sister.

"Sorry class I..." When I looked up, everybody had already left. The bell must have rang when I was in the call with Abby. I sighed again and rested my head in my desk. I had the next two periods free, so I decided to relax a little.

I must have fallen asleep, because an awkward cough made me open my eyes. I stood up and saw Alex standing on the door.

"Sorry to bother you, Mr. Barakat. But you told me you wanted to talk to me after class..." He started.

"How long how you been standing there?" I asked.

He blushed. "About fifteen minutes, I didn't know how to wake you up." He looked away from me, and I laughed. Why was he so uncomfortable? He didn't seem like that with his friends.

"I'm soooorry! Well, bring a chair and sit down." He did as he was told. "You know why you are here, right?" He modded. "Why didn't you answer anything, Alexander? I saw your last year's report card and your grades are excellent! You never failed a class!"

"I don't know. I couldn't concentrate." He murmured. "Suddenly I forgot everything I've learned in English before. When I got home I considered looking for a tutor..."

"I know someone who can help you. I have a friend that knows a lot about English, he always had the best grades..." I started. "He is my roommate. Maybe I could give you my address and you could come and maybe we could help you both a little." I smiled at him.

"Yes, sure, I think it's a great idea."

I took out a sheet of paper and wrote my address. "Could you writte me your phone number? So I can text you or something to tell you when you can start." I said, hanging him my phone. He hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do, but then grabbed it and add his number.

"I think I should leave, my mom will be worried by now." He said, grabbing his things and the note where I wrote my address. "Call you later and see you tomorrow, Alexander." He nodded and blushed a little while he opened the door. Why was he so shy around me?
