Rooftops... (Entry #2)

1/1

I let out a distressed groan as I rolled over ripping my phone off its charger.

“Hello?” I grumbled into the small device as I pressed it to my ear falling on my back as I sunk back into the mattress.

“Alex?” her voice chimed with a light tone.

“Teagan?” I asked scratching my hand through my bed head.

“Oh my god I’m so glad you’re up!” she sighed as I laughed.

“Not really…”

“Oh my god did I wake you up?” she gushed, “I’m sorry Lex, go back to bed I’ll call my dad. Oh my god he’s going to kill me!”

“Tee where are you?” I laughed.

“Um…the corner of York and Lincoln…” she hesitated.

“The hell are you doing on York rd. at…” I sat up to check the time, “four AM Teagan what are you doing?”

“Um…” she hesitated, “We were out of brownie mix?”

“Tee…” I groaned.

“Alex I know but I blew a tire, please help me?”

“I don’t really have a choice do I? Andy will have my ass if he found out I left you stranded on the side of the road no more than 10 minutes from my house.” I said as she laughed at me hitting on her older brother’s dislike of me. He always thought I wanted more from Tee then I did, but I couldn’t fully blame him with the record I had.

“Lex just hurry its cold!”

“What do you want me to do you know my cars in the shop since we had to cut Jack out of the seatbelt after the Christmas party.”

“Just come pick me up, I’ll walk back to your place with you for the night.”

As much as I truly liked that idea, her brother wouldn’t be in the same book let alone the same page with that, but I wasn’t about to upright and leave her their, in no world was that an option in my mind. “Teagan you will be the death of me you know that right?” all her response was a light hearted laugh. “I’ll be there in ten.”

I pulled myself out of bed and throwing on a jacket over my hoodie as I shuffled towards the door heading in the direction of down town to save my best friend’s ass.

Sure enough I approached a small silver car pulled over right before Lincoln Street, Teagan perched with her face in her hands as she sat on the hood of the car, the light overhead dead, but the area illuminated by the light post parallel to her on the other side of the road.

“Hey stranger!” I laughed nearing the girl as her head snapped up with a large glowing smile.

“Lex!” she chimed hopping off the hood and flinging herself into my open arms.

Her body melting into mine, as her evident chills slowly vanished from her bones from waiting in the cold December air. Lucky for her, no snow remained on the ground due to the odd warm-ish weather this year. I bound my arms tightly around her small frame, knowing I had only so many more hugs left till her family was to ship off to Troy, Michigan and rip her from my life before I could even claim her as part of it.

“You cold bugger?” I laughed into the top of her head.

“Yeah can we go home now?” she asked looking up into me with her large, full hazel eyes.

“I mean yeah, your homes that way though” I laughed pointing behind her.

“Lex…” she smiled leaning into the hug as she rested her head on my chest.

“Tee…” I mocked her tone.

“You know what I mean.”

“I’m afraid I don’t?” I cooed trying to get out of her what I wanted this to mean.

Hmff” she scoffed, “And for that you’re carrying my home, AND I’m taking your side of the bed.”

“Hell no you won’t!” I laughed turning in her arms to run back to my house.

“Hell yes I will!” she laughed as she hopped onto my back and I wrapped my arms over her knees, propping her small body up onto my hips to give her more support. “Alex?” she hummed nuzzling her nose into the crook of my neck as I walked.

“Yeah?”

“Can we stay up and watch the sunrise, just one more time.” Her voice sounded so sad, like she wasn’t as happy to move away as she led everyone on to thinking she was. Who was I to deny her of something so small?

“Anything for you Teagsie” I smiled, only to smile more as she placed a soft kiss on my neck, the simplest touch of her lips on my skin sending ripples through my body.

When we reached my front porch I returned my friend to her feet as she silently followed me to my bedroom, instantly making her way over to my window and sliding out onto the overhang of the back room. I slid my iPod from my backpack and smiled as I placed it on the doc letting the sweet sounds of a playlist she had put together fill the room.

I stepped out into the cold air as it bound itself around me and I let my body find hers, swiftly letting my arms innocently wrap around her frame to hold her close. This would be one of the last times I would have her like this, before she was gone forever.

“Alex.” She spoke softly. “I know what you’re thinking.”

“And what’s that?” I spoke realizing my hold on her must have sent a incite on the thoughts cluttering my mind.

“that I’m going to leave and forget you, that you’ll just be someone I used to kind of, sort of like on a good day and saved my ass on more than one occasion.”

“Tee…”I sighed resting my head on hers.

“No Alex,” she spoke, “I’m going to be upfront with you, and I’m only saying this because I care. I have been saying nonstop to everyone, ‘oh ill text you, we’ll stay in touch’ and I know it’s not true, even with you, yeah maybe we will stay in touch for a month max, but soon one of us will come to terms that I’m not coming back and there’s no point in holding onto the past, and slowly but surely, we will stop talking, but Alex trust me when I say, I can never forget you. Even if I wanted to.”

“So what, is this it?” I asked.

“Is this what?”

“Is this the end of us?” I asked lifting my head from hers to look into her water clustered eyes. “Is this how I have to let go of you, having you tell me that it’s okay that we will stop talking, that this is all I will have to hold onto for the rest of my life.”

“Alex I hardly doubt I’ll be in your mind for the rest of your life, you already have girls lined up around the corner to sleep with you, what would one do just to be your friend?”

“It’s not the same Tee!” I snapped but more out of frustration than anger.

“How so?”

“You’d think that if I wanted to sleep with all those girls, I would have.” I said sitting up onto my knees, “There’s a reason I haven’t Teagan!”

She cocked her head at me as her eyebrows knitted together.

“None of them are you, okay!” I admitted, “I don’t want some random girl, why do you think I take all the shit I did from Andy, I know he’s just looking out for you but Teags, but I’m not letting you leave me with a ‘I’ll never forget you’ bullshit, I’m not going to have that to remember you by, cause you will be on my mind for the rest of my life!”

“Alex…” she sighed.

“Tee please,” I begged cupping her face in my hands as I pressed her cold tipped nose to mine as our foreheads rested on one another’s. “Just let me have this night.”

Our short shallow breaths filled the space between our lips but I wanted nothing more than to fill that space, claim her as mine and keep her at my side for the time we had left, but I knew I’d never mean anything to her, I’m nothing more than some friend she had in Baltimore, a photo in a scrap book somewhere in her home.

“Alex,” she spoke as my eyes fluttered open to meet hers as her hand cupped my cold jaw, “What do you like about me?”

“What?”

“I mean what are things you like about me because I don’t see why I’m anything special as compared to those other girls.” She sighed, “I don’t see why it matters that they aren’t me, I’m nothing special like them.”

“Are you serious?” I asked, downright boggled by her question, was she being real, did she really think she was nothing special?

“Yes Alex, tell me why you feel that I’m this amazing person you’ll never forget when you got girls down the block basically begging to sleep with you, but you choose to be sitting on your roof in the middle of the winter, with me, listening to a shitty playlist I made.”

“I feel that way because it’s true, I love everything about you!”

“Ha! Like what.”

“I love everything about you” I repeated, “I love the way your eyes sparkle when you get happy, I love how red just the tip of your nose gets when you’re cold, how you crinkle it when you laugh that genuine giggle.” I poked her nose as she giggled the giggle I spoke of and smacked a hand over her own mouth, “yeah like that!” I laughed pulling her hand from her face.

“I love how you aren’t afraid to speak your mind, I find it charming how you swear like a sailor, I love that you can manage to look hot as hell in jeans and a tee shirt, I love how you’re real,” I scooted closer cupping her face in my large hands once again as her eyes fluttered from her lap to meet mine.

“I love your music taste, and your scent, and your smile, and the way you bob your knee when your uncomfortable, or bite your lip when your nervous.” The last one causing her to halt the chewing of her lower lip, as I bent over to lightly press my lips to her forehead causing another giggle to pass her lips as I smiled into her forehead. “I love you Teagan.”

I said the words without even thinking, my lips betrayed my mind as the thought spilled from the cavern that was my mouth. I hadn’t intended on saying it, ever, but I had no time to regret it before she had pressed her lips to mine.

My head was clouded with confusion as my brain floated in a pool of lust as her lips molded perfectly to mine, moving against each other like to enemies at war, but with an unspoken treaty with the tenderness and lust they shared. The kiss was hair-raisingly perfect, but in the same painstakingly short as she pulled away gasping for air as her hands rested on the back of my neck.

“You were never one for good timing were you Gaskarth?”

“No I just never had the guts to tell you how I feel.”
