The Future - Epilogue

A few days later, Jack and Alex were lying on the beach a bit further down the coast. It was beautiful; nice sand and the sun shining brightly. They didn’t want to give away too much money for their honeymoon; they want to invest it into other things that are more needed. And just a few seconds ago, Jack brought up a topic that might require money.

“Alex, have you ever… you know… thought about kids?” he said slowly.

“What? You mean like… adoption?” Alex said. He suddenly looked slightly sick.

“Yes, exactly. I was thinking about it the other day because I really want kids…”

Alex didn’t reply. He looked sad, sick but if there was a tiny spark of hope in his eyes.

“Alex? You okay?”

He nodded. “Yeah, I was just thinking about Elly. I still miss her so much.”

“I’m so sorry Lex,” Jack whispered. He got closer to him and wrapped his arms around him.

“Shh, don’t worry. It’s nothing urgent, I just want you to know I have been thinking about this topic. Whenever you feel ready, just tell me.”

“I actually do feel ready; I’m just scared that things might get hard at first.”

“It’ll be alright, you’ll be an amazing dad. Knowing what can happen, you will be extra careful, I’ll probably have to get him or her away from you sometimes,” Jack said softly but with a little grin. Alex had to smile too and punched him lightly.

“Heey! Are you tryna start a fight?” Jack exclaimed. He got up and cupped some water in his hands to splash it at Alex. The latter squeaked and jumped up. Within seconds, a full on water-battle was on. They both ended up in the water, panting and kissing.

A few months later, they were looking at diapers. They’d get their little baby boy, a tiny baby with huge, still blue eyes and soft, brown hair tomorrow. They had everything except for diapers, they just didn’t seem to be able to choose one brand. They have been arguing for 10 minutes about the advantages and disadvantages of the different brands when someone just walked by, pulled out a package of diapers and put it in their trolley.

“You’re welcome, those are the best. Trust me, I have 3 kids,” he said. He looked a bit tired but happy, the wrinkles around his eyes clearly showing the many laughs and smiles he had had. Jack and Alex stared at him as he smiled once more and left.

In the car, they sat still for a minute before driving off. Alex was still the one who had to drive, but Jack had started looking up driver’s ed’s websites, Alex had seen it clearly the last time he’d snuck a pee k at his perfect husband when he was on his laptop.

“Alex, I’m so excited,” Jack whispered, as if their luck might break if he was too loud.

“Me too,” Alex said. “Please promise me you will do everything to protect him,” he added, fear shimmering in his eyes.

“I promise. Alex, it’ll be okay. You’ll be an amazing dad. I love you,” Jack said super-softly.

“Thank you. I love you so much more,” Alex replied.

They kissed. The next day, a new time would begin.

@Mae Lissa
Mhm to be honest, I haven't been thinking about a sequel too much because for me, this story is finished and over. I could maybe do one single chapter about their future (like an epilogue to the epilogue haha) if people would want me to.
