Jack POV

“Alex? How about a day at the beach?” I asked him. I had a free day today and I was planning on proposing today. I was extremely nervous but I tried my best to hide it. I had it all planned.

“Aw yeah! I’d love to!” Alex squealed. He was in a great mood and ran up to me to jump on my back and hug me from behind. I almost fell over but managed not to trip. Hurting Alex or myself on this special day wouldn’t be too nice.

“So then, pack up! We leave in 15 minutes!”
I announced. He ran off, making excited plane noises and holding out his arms like the wings.
Time to pack up everything I needed. Towels, swim-shorts, picnic blanket: check. Sandwiches (not too many, I had different plans concerning the food), water, book to read: check. Sunshade, sunglasses, sunscreen: check. And finally, the proposal things: ring, kids champagne(we’d have to drive!), a rose: check!

I was ready. I put all the things in the car and waited for Alex. I didn’t have to wait for long, he practically flew down the stairs. He smiled widely as he threw himself on the driver’s seat. I was still anxious about driving but I had learned to trust Alex and to relax as well as possible.
We made it to the beach safely and as I unloaded the things from the car, I enjoyed the salty breeze around my nose. It smelled of algae and fish but also slightly of wood. I loved the smell so much. Alex ran to the water quickly. I was worried he might fall or something at the speed he was running but surprisingly, he stayed upright.

We settled down close to the water. The sand was soft and warm from the sun, I buried my toes in it and enjoyed it. But not for long, Alex grew tired of building a sand castle soon and hopped over to me to drag me into the water. I screamed but he just threw me in. I managed to grab him tightly though when falling so we both ended up in the cold sea. “We go together or we don’t do down at all,” I whispered to him. We kissed and fooled around for a bit until I decided to leave because I was cold. I lay down on my towel and Alex joined me. We applied sunscreen to each other’s back, enjoying the little back massage due to it.

I fell asleep at some point since it was warm and nice. I dreamed of Alex saying yes without further thought and it felt so amazing… When I woke up, I felt refreshed. Alex had fallen asleep too so I got out my book, “A Country Doctor’s Notebook” by the Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov. It was a great book and I enjoyed reading it very much.

Only little time later, Alex woke up. He stretched and yawned, his tiny sleep-eyes looking adorable.

“Hey Lex,” I said softly. He mumbled something and got himself some water. It was late afternoon now and I was starting to feel hungry. Time to get started on my plan.

“Are you hungry?” I asked. He nodded. “How about we order a pizza?” I continued, feeling my heart beat against my ribs. He had to say yes for my plan to work.

“Yeah, why not?” he replied. I did a happy dance inside.

“The usual?”

“Yeah.”

I called and ordered two Margaritas to be brought to the beach. I was really nervous now. What if he said no? No Jack, there’s no sense in being negative, I scolded myself. While we were waiting for the pizzas to arrive, we built a small castle. Very nice but sadly, the sea reclaimed it soon.

Our pizzas arrived at some point. I paid the pizza boy and looked at my box. Alex had already started to eat so I’d do it now.

“Okay, Alex, could you stop eating for a second?” I asked, my nerves killing me.

“Sure thing,” he replied, eating his last bite of whatever.

“So I know I’m really bad at this but I… I tried to memorize my text. I just hope it works out how I imagined it,” I began. Alex looked slightly confused.

“Remember that first pizza? How you insisted on sharing it with me even though I resisted at first?” Alex nodded with a smile on his face. “So this is how it all started. And now, with the very pizza you are eating right now, a new time begins. I love you so much and I’m sure I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to give you back the things you gave to me and I can’t thank you enough for all you did for me. But most of all, I just love you to bits, every little thing of you, even if you hate it.”


Alex looked weirdly, a mixture of smile and question lingering on his lips. I opened the box with the ring and held it towards Alex.


“So hereby, I want to ask you, Alexander William Gaskarth… Will you marry me?” I was sure my heart was trying to explode. It was beating harder and faster than ever. I looked into Alex’s beautiful eyes. What was he thinking right now?


“I will,” he said with a huge smile. I couldn’t help it, I burst into tears. Alex. Mine forever. I slipped on the ring on his finger after having calmed down a bit, I got out the kid’s champagne and poured us both a glass. We cheered and had the drink.

“It’s beautiful,” Alex said, looking at the ring on his finger.

“Thank you,” I said, feeling genuinely happy. I kissed Alex softly on his cheek but it soon progressed into proper kisses on the mouth.

“I love you,” I whispered in a little pause.

“I love you too,” Alex mumbled. I hugged him tightly and felt on top of the world. I was excited for facing whatever would come up in the future together with Alex.
