Wake-Up Call (Jack POV)
My night had been bad but I woke up feeling better than when I had fallen asleep. It was a Saturday Alex was so cute when he was asleep, I mean, he was always cute but he looked so completely innocent. His cheeks were pink, his eyelids fluttering a tiny bit. His caramel hair had the bed-hair style and looked incredibly fluffy. I touched it, careful not to wake him up and enjoyed its softness.
I snuggled a bit closer to him but he stirred in his sleep, mumbling something.
“I love you Jay,” he repeated. I broke out into a smile, feeling my heart grow in my chest. I buried my face in his chest, enjoying his scent and warmth. But he was waking up now, starting to sleepily move and making little noises. I tried to shush him but he opened his tiny, sleepy eyes, looked at me and smiled.
“Hi Jay,” he said softly. He stretched and hugged me again. He tried to kiss me but I refused to be kissed.
“Ewwwy, morning breath,” I said with a grin. Alex huffed and turned around, making little sounds of annoyance. “Noo, Lex, don’t turn your back on me,” I complained. He huffed again, not moving one bit. I tried to turn him around, gripping his shoulder and pulling. He didn’t give in though.
“Lex, I’m so sorry, come here,” I said pleadingly. “Please, I’ll kiss you even with morning breath.”
He reached for something and slipped it in his mouth before turning back to me. He handed me a mint.
“Only if you take one too,” he said with a grin. I quickly took it and sucked a bit on it, the fresh taste filling my mouth. I kissed him, slow at first, enjoying the feeling of his soft lips on mine. It was a sweet kiss, innocent and sleepy. We kissed lazily for some time until a shrill sound interrupted us. The landline. Alex got up to get it, sighing loudly.
When he came back, he held the phone out to me. Me? I looked at him questioningly but then took the phone.
“Jack Barakat,” I answered it.
“Hello? Are you Jack Barakat?” a nasal voice asked.
“As I said, I am,” I answered.
“Perfect, I got your number from Matt, he said you were looking for a job and you are good at cooking,” the person said. “Oh, I’m so sorry, I’m David Bourrier,” he added. “Owner of a newly built French restaurant!”
“Yes, that’s me,” I managed to say.
“Okay, would you like to come here on Monday? 23 Baldwin Street here in Baltimore. It’s “Le Petit Prince” just walk in there whenever as soon as possible,” he said. I nodded, realized he couldn’t see me and hummed a yes. I wrote down the address.
“Thank you so much, Mr Bourrier,” I said.
“Bye, au revoir Jack,” he said and ended the call. What a bizarre bird. But I had a job interview. A real interview. Wow. I smiled. Alex smiled too.
“Congrats babe,” he said. “We should celebrate that,” he said with a smirk, a wink and a bite of his lip. I shared his opinion…
