Long Live Us

Chapter Forty Seven

*Alex pov*

'Like a rainbow.'
The band played the last note, letting the room become silent before the crowd began to clap. Alex smiled, pleased with how the song went and how they sounded. He felt it really captured the sound All Time Low we're aiming for. Something he didn't want to admit was how well he felt the song captured his emotions, and spoke the words he was unable too. A large part of the boy felt bad, awful even, for snapping at his boyfriend, but he just wanted to show him off. He wanted everyone to know that Jack was his and no one else's.
The sound of someone standing up caught Alex's attention, and he turned to see Jack walking towards him with a determined look on his face. The older shot the boy a questioning look, keeping his gaze on his face as the tall boy came closer. Within the next second, the familiar feeling of Jack kissing him filled his body. Alex instinctively kissed back, leaning into the hand on his cheek and melting into Jack. It wasn't a heated or long kiss, just simple and sweet, a silent proclamation of their dedication to one another. When the taller boy drew back, his eyes slightly widened but his shoulders more relaxed that before, Alex realised what he had done. They'd come out. Both of them, together, as a couple, with a kiss. People now knew. This thought caused a grin to spread across Alex's face, knowing that Jack had now well and truly committed himself to Alex and their relationship. The smile spread to the younger's face, despite the glint of nervousness in his eyes.
"See? It wasn't too hard was it?" Alex whispered to him, his voice seeming to sooth the boy, who nodded and smiled once more, before happily being pulled down for another kiss.
"Right guys keep it PG please!" Miss Jackson interrupted them, causing the boys to pull away and Jack went and sat back on the stool he was situated on before. Rian and Zack shared a knowing look, smirking at one another, and the teacher came and stood just in front of Alex to address the class about what was happening until the end of term. The brunette let his eyes look over the class, too see any reaction to what had just happened in front of them. As expected, Jenna, Tay and Cass were sitting pretty in the front row, all smiley widely and fidgeting slightly, their excitement only just being contained. The "jock" boy sitting in the middle of the room had his arm securely wrapped around his girlfriends shoulders, a slight glare in his eyes but he was keeping his mouth shut. Alex smiled when he looked at Sam, the quiet geeky boy of the class, who kept his head down and did what he had to do. He was sitting in the back corner, like he always did, with a shy smile on his face, his eyes full of admiration and hope as his gaze flickered between the two guitarists sitting at the front.
"Right, Jenna and Jack will do their last performance on Thursday correct?" Miss said, upon hearing Jacks name Alex concentrated once more. The named pair both nodded, and the teacher gave them both a satisfied nod before finishing.
"Fab. See you Thursday, now run along to break." She teased, talking to the class like they were a lot younger than they are. Everyone eagerly stood up, packed their chairs away and bolted for the door, taking full advantage of the extra thirty seconds the teacher had given them. Only the four boys and Tay, Jenna and Cass remained in the room, the seven proceeding to pack up their equipment and run the important stuff into Zack's car.
Jack and Alex returned to the classroom to check if anymore needed doing, and were both happy to see that there was no longer any evidence of the band being there. Jack let out a sigh of relief and stretched, lifting his arms high above his head, leaving Alex fighting to keep his gaze off of the small piece of flesh being revealed as his shirt rode up. Silence followed, neither boy 100% sure what to say to the other. Alex still couldn't wipe the grin off of his face, so he just looked at the other boy, who just looked back.
"Fucking weirdo." Jack muttered after a few moments, scowling at Alex, who pouted.
"Hey. I'm your fucking weirdo." He retorted, both of them replacing their previous looks with smiles as they closed the gap between themselves and hugged. The two boys rarely just shared a simple hug, but in its own weird way it was a special and perfect embrace. It was what was needed. No extravagant making out, just simply two bodies pressed together, breathing in time with one another.

The next two lessons went smoothly, nothing out of the ordinary happening, a few whispered here and there, but nothing that obvious. The bell signalling it was lunch time went, the class quickly packing up and bolting for the door. Alex, Jack and Rian headed for the canteen to grab their food, before heading back to the common room.
"Y'know, I was wondering," Rian began, throwing his chewing gum in the bin they walked past, "do you guys have any idea what you're gonna do after next year? Like, when we finish school?"
"All my hopes are on this band, there's fuck all else I wanna do." Jack replied honestly with a shrug, taking a bite of his pizza slice. Alex shook his head, partially agreeing.
"I dunno. If the band worked out that'd be kinda cool." He admitted, Rian nodding along with them. "Before I moved here I had my heart set on being a vet though."
"If I actually cared about my subjects I'd do chemistry and blow shit up." Jack said, smiling at Alex's confession and then making his own. They all laughed at this, pushing the door open as they went into the sixth form block. They rounded the corner to the common room, Rian walking in front, Jack behind him and Alex at the back. After everything going swimmingly, as such, it seemed it wouldn't last. As they walked in, one of the "popular kids" standing by the door stepped backwards slightly, successfully knocking Jack - hard - out of the way.
"Watch where you're going, fag." The boy spat. Alex knew the boy as Gavin, Jack and pointed him out when Alex first started, and the brunette was glad that this was his first and hopefully last encounter with him.
"What the fuck did you call me?" Jack spat back, the volume of the confrontation catching the attention of most people in the room. Alex shuffled on his feet nervously, not liking the way Jack's shoulders were stiffened and high.
"You heard me, fag." Gavin seethed, emphasising the last word, standing up taller to try and match Jack's height advantage. "Now fuck off, you're not wanted here. Go and get your arsehole well and truly smashed."
"Oh, like I did to your girlfriend?" The comeback was quick from the tall boy, a smug smirk on his face as the other boy squirmed slightly under the comment. Alex had to bite his lip to stop himself from laughing; watching Gavin's facade crumble in front of him.
"Good one Barafag." Was all he could come back with, sending a scowl in his direction.
"It is, isn't it? I slept with your girlfriend more times than you did, and then turned out gay. I'd high five myself to be honest." Laughter filled the room as Gavin looked around desperately, needing someone to back him up, but no one being there. Even the group sitting at the same table as him were trying to suppress their laughter. Rian fist bumped him, laughing along with the taller boy. Gavin just glared at them, huffing loudly before sitting down once more, crossing his arms across his chest and ignoring everything around him. Jack shrugged, and let Rian lead them over to the table where the three girls were sat. Everyone reverted their attention as the argument ended, Alex now liking not being centre of attention.
"Go Jack!" Jenna cheered when the taller boy sat down, rolling his eyes and patting the seat next to him for Alex to sit down.
"That was kinda cool." Rian agreed from his seat next to Cass, who was nodding in agreement. Jack just shrugged and leant back, throwing his arm over the back of Alex's chair. The brunette leaned into his arm, discretely bringing their chairs closer together.
"Well, it'll teach him to be a homophobic prick, won't it?"

Later that evening Alex and Jack were in the younger boy's room, lying together on the bed watching a re-run of The Walking Dead. Jack was playing the big spoon, lying with his back against the wall and Alex in front of him. The brunette relished in the sensation of Jack's fingers loosely tugging at his hair, swirling the long bits at the back around his index finger. Alex pushed his head back to lean it on the taller boy's shoulder, closing his eyes as he recalled the events of the day with a small smile on his face.
"Y'know, it was super hot what you did at lunch today." Alex admitted, opening his eyes when Jack chuckled.
"Thanks, I guess." He responded, shrugging a little.
"Thank you for everything you did today." Alex said after a moment, his voice soft and sincere. Jack shuffled so they were in a more upright position facing each other.
"It's only what you deserve, Lex. Sorry for being a wimp before."
"No no I get it, I'm sorry for not understanding." Jack didn't response verbally, just smiled, before leaning down and pressing their lips together, keeping his hand in place knotted in Alex's hair. The two boys let their make out session get relatively heated, Alex ending up straddling Jack, who had his back pressed up against the wall, his hands wrapped firmly around the elder's hips. They broke apart for a breath, both panting heavily, smirks on their lips as they kept their foreheads pressed together. Alex took the moment to admire the boy in front of him. His perfect doe brown eyes that glimmered with happiness, his raven locks that fell across his forehead, his bushy eyebrows and curved nose, his pink lips, currently plump from kissing. Jack was perfect, Alex couldn't deny it. And anyone who disagreed was wrong, basically. In that small moment the brunette admitted to himself that he was in love with the lanky boy. There was no way he could deny it anymore. It was slightly too soon to say it out loud, yes, but it was time for Alex to admit it to himself.
'I am so in love with you, Jack Barakat.'
