Chapter Thirty Five

*Jack POV*

"So I've been thinking recently about... How much you mean to me... And how much I want you to be... Well, mine.." Alex spoke, nerves flowing from his body like a waterfall. Jack had thought the brunette seemed distant, like his mind was somewhere else, and now he was desperate to know. However, what had just been said unnerved him slightly. Where was this heading? Why hasn't he said anything earlier? Nerves were building up inside of his own body, and he knew he had a frown plastered to his face. Suddenly, Alex lifted his face back up and their gazes locked. The brunettes eyes were filled with so much emotion, Jack felt like his soul was on show due to the intensity of the stare. The silence dragged out slightly as the boys just looked deep into each others eyes, before Alex spoke. His words were rushed, but he said them without his voice quavering and keeping their eyes locked.
"Basically I've been wondering... Jack Barakat, will you be my boyfriend?"
The younger boy felt his eyes widen, lifting his eyebrows high on his face. Alex immediately looked away, finding an interest in the grass.
'Wow I did not expect that.' Jack thought, running a hand through his hair. He had to stop his body going into panic mode as his mind ran wild with various thoughts. There was a small part of his being screaming at him to run. That he was straight, that he liked girls, with fake blonde hair and big boobs. That his long fingers were meant to be interlocked with dainty ones. That he should go out and be buying pretty necklaces and perfumes for his girlfriend. That his favourite taste was cherry lipgloss. That his Saturdays should be spent carrying shopping bags while she pranced around in front of his, picking out everything she could.
However, the small flame of happiness that had been burning from today had now burst into a full blown fire. And he couldn't deny that feeling. It warmed every inch of his body, apart from the dark corner of his mind, and made his heart beat that little but faster. This feeling only erupted around Alex. No amount of blonde hair and big boobs could change that. Not ever. When Jack was with Alex, he felt on top of the world, he felt invincible, like nothing could touch him. The brunette had filled every gap in his life, and everything now felt complete. And the fact Alex had asked, meant that he wanted this. That he felt the same. And Jack could never deny his that made him feel.
"Okay so I screwed up I'll go." Alex murmured, moving to stand up, bringing Jack back to the present. Before he could get to his feet, the younger boy grabbed Alex's wrist and looked up at him.
"Yes." He said simply, a shy smile playing on his lips. The brunette slowly lifted his head to look at Jack, his eyes seemingly scanning his face for signs of seriousness. After a moment, when he noticed the honesty in Jack's face, a smile broke across his own faces and his eyes lit up.
"Really?" The older boy asked, a shy smile playing on his lips. Without saying a word, Jack brought his hand to Alex's cheek, before bringing their faces together to share a kiss. Passion and sheer emotion flowed between them as they both smiled, before pulling back.
"So, can I make my boyfriend a tea?" Jack asked with a small smile, as the blush spread across Alex's face. This was perfect.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following week was half term, but Alex's parents had knocked in early Monday morning saying they were his he needed to pack so they could go. It was now Tuesday, and after spending Monday sleeping and eating to stop himself missing Alex, Jenna had decided to drag Jack out of the house. Somehow they had ended up shopping, and the usual rituals of the tall boy being dragged around were in full swing. They had travelled out to one of the bigger shopping centres in Baltimore, and Jenna was splashing out it seemed. Currently, Jack was sitting awkwardly on one of the chairs just outside the changing rooms while the blonde tried on an outfit. Her aunty in Australia was getting married in the summer, so here she was desperately trying to find something nice to wear. The shop was quite posh, Jack thought, and loads of sparkly dressed lined the hangers, and there was a massive section for shoes a which Jenna had spent a good half an hour looking at. None of it interested him, he was much more bothered by his phone buzzing every now and then signalling a reply from his boyfriend.
'Wow it's kinda cool being able to say that.' He thought, smiling like an idiot at himself.
While he was typing a reply to the brunette, who was suffering a family lunch, a voice spoke next to him and someone sat down.
"Hey Jack." The boy said, and looking up the dark haired boy realised it was Vic.
"Hey dude, what's up?"
"Eurgh. Mum needs a new dress, some work dinner or something." The Mexican responded with a groan and a roll of his eyes, making Jack laugh. At least he wasn't the only one suffering.
"Know the feeling. Jenna." He responded, nodding his head towards the entrance of the changing rooms. Vic opened his mouth to reply, but was cut off by said girl appearing.
"Jay help!" She whined, now standing a few feet in front of them. The girl in charge of the rooms let out a gasp, and Jack heard Vic let out a little gasp of his own. The guy rearranging the shoes next to them let out a loud wolf whistle, and Jenna just hid her face , blushing furiously. It was safe to say, she looked gorgeous.
"I love it." He said simply, grinning. Vic nodded eagerly next I him in agreement, and another smile graced Jenna's face.
"Good I like it too." She said, doing an twirl before giggling and walking back in to get changed.
"Wow." Vic breathed, when she'd vanished. Jack looked at him, chuckling at how bright his eyes were, and it was evident he couldn't wipe the smile off of his face.
"You have to get past me to get anywhere near her." Jack said to him with a wink, making his stutter and look away.
"I-I don't.. It's not- urm."
"Yeah yeah keep trying I won't buy it." Jack ended his pain for him. The shorter boy just laughed at himself and shook his head.
Before anymore could be said, the blonde girl appeared, happily carrying her new outfit, a wide grin plastered to her face. She skipped over to the boys and gave Vic a one armed hug, before grabbing Jack and running off to pay. Turning back, Jack saw the smile on Vic's features and knew there was no way he could deny it. It seemed Vic may have a thing for Jenna. And for once, Jack was happy and content enough to maybe not have to at the over protective brother role.

"Jen I need an outfit for Saturday. I am meeting fucking Green Day! And I obviously need to look dead hot for Alex." Jack whined, traipsing through the shop in a desperate attempt to find something to buy for the weekend.
"You are such a girl." The blonde replied, bumping into him playfully. He responded with a glare, ignoring her as she just laughed at him.
"Well, want do you want to wear? Merch?" She asked. The dark haired boy thought about it for a moment before nodding his head, giggling internally at the way his fringe flopped about.
"What about that grey Green Day shirt you liked? They'll have that here." She suggested. Once again Jack responded with a nod, quickly making his way over to where he knew the band shirts were. Instantly, he spotted the right section and was on straight path to the top he wanted. Jenna followed a few moments later, gazing around the shop in a little world of her own, like she often did. After narrowly avoiding another teenager, she was stood next to Jack as he pulled the top out. Holding it up against himself, he turned to the blonde. She nodded, saying it would for fine, making Jack grin happily.
They paid, and made their way to Starbucks for a well needed coffee before heading back home. Laden with bags, Jack picked them out a table while Jenna got their drinks. The dark haired boy whipped out his phone, scanned over the three texts he had received from Alex, smiling as he imagined his facial expressions along with the text. Jack already felt he knew Alex. That he would be able to guess what he would say, or predict what facial expression he would pull. And he loved that. It gave him butterflies just acknowledging how strong their connection was, already. The brunette was the first person Jack had really clicked with since he met Josh, and he silently thanked whatever was the cause of him moving to Baltimore. Because if he hadn't, Jack Barakat would not have been sitting in a coffee shop, smiling like an idiot at his phone, because of a boyfriend. He wouldn't change it for the world. Everything felt right, for once, and he silently prayed that it would stay that way. At least for a while. So he could enjoy it. Enjoy the feeling of being free and at ease. Enjoy the feelings Alex gave him.
"What cha smiling at? That boyfriend of yours texting?" Jenna teased with a wink, setting the two drinks in the table. Jack smirked at the comment, loving how oblivious she was. Now was his chance to tell her.
"Yeah he is actually." He said simply, keeping a straight face and acting like it was no big deal. Typing a quick reply, he noted Jenna's silence, and looked up to see her frowning slightly at him, confusion written across her features.
"Why didn't you do your usual 'Jen he's not my boyfriend oh my goddd!'" She questioned, putting on a whiney voice to imitate Jack. He just raised and dropped his eyebrows quickly, smirking slightly as he slid his phone back into his pocket. The blonde girls face suddenly changed as she clocked on to what he was silently telling her. Her mouth dropped open, her eyes widened and her eyebrows raised.
"Oh. My. God." Pausing between each word, Jenna kept her eyes on Jacks, and he knew she was trying to work out if he was trying to play a joke on her or not. He held her gaze, knowing that was the only way to get her to believe him, and after a few moments she slapped her hand over her mouth.
"If you squeal or scream or whatever, I will hit you." He warned, slowly taking a sip of his drink as Jenna took in what she had just heard.
"Seriously?" Jack nodded in response, unable to hide the smile that crept into his face as he set his cup down on the table. Jenna let out a strained squeal as she scuttled round the table to wrap her arms around the dark boys neck. Chuckling, Jack returned the hug until she had calmed down enough and returned to her seat. After a moment or two of silence Jenna was still just grinning at Jack, so he shot her a questioning look.
"I'm proud of you." She said sincerely, her grin being replaced by a sweet, genuine smile.
"What, for being gay?" He joked, uncertain of what she was trying to say.
"No, for taking this journey. Like, I didn't think you'd ever new committed to anyone again. And look, here you go." She spoke simply, taking a sip from her drink, her eyes glowing happily. Jack nodded, agreeing with her words. He was committed to Alex, and as much as that scared him, he knew it was he wanted. And he wasn't going to screw this up over his own commitment issues.
"Yes, here I go."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"Are you sure my hair looks okay?" Alex questioned for the billionth time, running his hands through his brunette locks in his attempt to get every last strand of hair in place. Jack chuckled at him, again.
"Lex you look fine." He reassured, trying to hide his own nerves. The pair were on a room with various other Green Day fans, waiting for their trio of heroes to appear for the meet and greet. Jack was trying to figure out what he would say, and how to pose in the photos, and how to ask them to sign his ticket. Excitement built up inside of his as he pictured being able to brag about this for like, ever. Alex, on the other hand, seemed to just be a bundle of nerves at the moment. The shorter boy was constantly on the move, sorting his hair out or just pacing around in a circle.
'Bless.' Jack commented, watching his boyfriend finish another circle so he was now standing in front of the taller boy. Alex didn't say anything, but leaned into Jack, automatically moulding the two together. Suddenly they became oblivious too the word and everything around them, until the younger boy heard a girl scream. Turning around quickly, he noticed the band waltz in.
"Alex oh my god look!" Jack said quickly, joy and excitement lacing his voice as he hit the brunette to get his attention. Alex responded in a similar way, until both of them were just standing there waiting for their turn to meet their idols.
After five minutes of trying to calm each other down and sorting their hair out (again), Billie Joe walked over to them.
"Hey boys!" He greeted, shooting them a warm grin. Alex just slapped his hand over his mouth and Jack could see that he was straining to keep his legs still.
"Oh my god, hey! Thank you for being like an awesome band, you guys are, like, the reason I play guitar!" Jack gushed, sticking his hand out for a handshake. The older man just laughed and brought the skinny boy in for a hug, make him have to suppress a squeal.
'I'm hugging Billie Joe fucking Armstrong!' He thought to himself, before they broke away. Jack turned to check on Alex, and the brunette was still standing frozen, looking dumbstruck. Jack chuckled softly at him, before gently grabbing his hand and squeezing it. Somehow, this seemed to give the boy whatever it was he needed, and he shot Jack a thankful glance.
"H-Hi! I, like, love you! And the band, obviously, like.. Oh my god I'm proper embarrassing myself.." He stuttered, placing his free hand over his mouth once more.
"It's fine, I understand, I'm just so amazing." Billie Joe joked, flicking his hair dramatically, before motioning for Alex to give him a hug. The brunette leaned in, but kept his hand firmly clasped to Jack. The taller boy smiled as he saw Alex finally meet his heroes, and he was quite proud of himself for being the reason that happened.
They took photos with the trio, got them to sign some of their stuff, and Alex had a massive talk about how desperate he was to hear them play When I Come Around because he missed it at their last tour, before it was time for them to get out so the band could prepare for their show. Everyone had shuffled towards the far door, and Jack and Alex were standing together at the side, their fingers still interlinked as they grinned happily. Both of them knew they would never forget this day, ever. A life dream had been ticked off of the list today.
Just as the famous trio were leaving, Billie Joe turned around, and his eyes scanned the group of fans. A few of the girls screamed and waved at them, but his outlined eyes settled on Jack and Alex. Jack smiled at him, waving, as did the brunette next to him as he settled his head near the younger boys shoulder. The singers eyes lit up and he smiled softly at them, and Jack could almost see a thousand thoughts flash through them. He wondered what the singer thought, he guessed it was weird, a gay couple at a meet and greet. Maybe it didn't happen that often. One last smile and the man dissappeared, leaving the fans feeling over the moon and gutted at the same time.
'Show time!' Jack thought, grabbing Alex and running towards the door, determined to get as close to the front as possible. Today was definitely going to be awesome.
