'Better Get Out While You Can'

One Shot

Alex had spent hours and hours overnight in the studio with the 5SOS boys and was now almost home. All Time Low were on a break from tour and it was coming up to Christmas time, meaning Alex could spend the holidays with Jack in the new house that they had bought together last summer. It wasn't anything special, they didn't need it to be, but it was theirs and theirs alone. Their own little 'sanctuary', a safe place where they didn't have to hide their feelings from one another like they did in public. So yeah, this place was perfect.

It was filled to the top with all of their favourite things, there were superhero posters lining the walls, a small 'home-studio' out the back and a framed photo of the pair of them backstage at a Ravens game a few years ago where Alex had managed to pluck up the courage to tell Jack that he meant the world to him, and from that day on, they were exclusive....

Alex pulled into their driveway and parked next to Jack's glossy black car. The latter wasn't expecting his other half back until the afternoon, and Alex thought he would surprise him, so on the way home he had picked up a new football jersey for him; Ravens, of course. He smiled at the gift wrapped bag on the passenger seat, hoping that Jack would like it.

However, Alex's smile faltered when he thought about how his boyfriend had been acting these past couple of weeks. He just didn't seem himself. He would get really distant and quiet, which was very out of character, and Alex had no clue what could have caused it. He just hoped it wasn't something he had done, because he wouldn't be able to cope with that. Sure, their relationship wasn't perfect, Jack would get paranoid at the fact Alex still spoke to Lisa on a daily basis, and he always thought she was trying to steal him back. The older man wouldn't ever dream of doing that, but Jack wasn't convinced. So much so that he'd often make slip-ups in the relationship. He wasn't used to being tied down or having commitments and he would make the mistake of making out with someone else in a club, Alex knew about it, but he didn't like confrontation, so bit his tongue and hoped it would go away.

How wrong he was.

Alex made his way into the house and the younger man was nowhere to bee seen, so he figured he was still asleep. He kicked his shoes off and went to the kitchen wanting to spoil Jack and make him breakfast in bed, he took out all of the ingredients that he needed to make pancakes, the only think he could actually cook apart from Pasta, and mixed them all up in a large glass bowl.

He danced clumsily over to the fridge, luckily avoiding tripping over, and grabbed the carton of un-opened orange juice and pouring some into two glasses, downing his in just a few swift mouthfuls. He got to work on the breakfast, humming some of the riffs he had come up with in the studio just a few hours ago, but not loud enough to disrupt Jack's sleeping.

Once he was finished, he stacked them up on a small white plate and set the plate onto a tray next to the juice and started making his way to their bedroom. He couldn't believe how lucky he was to actually have Jack in his life; and to think it had all started when they met in 8th grade. They bonded straight away, became best friends and grew up together, then as time passed and the band got bigger, Alex found himself relying on Jack, and slowly but surely fell for him. It was perfect, falling in love with your best friend and have them love you back is something that only happens in fairytales. I guess, Jack was Alex's happy ever after.

Alex went into the room, tray in hands and a smile plastered on his face as he thought of Christmas being just around the corner, they could make snowmen like last year and invite Rian and Zack over for a snowball fight and end up getting so cold that they would have to crowd around Jack and Alex's small fireplace, a mug of hot-coco sprinkled with mini marshmallows warming up their hands.

Even though these thoughts were swimming around in his mind like a soft white cloud that made him feel all fuzzy and happy, his smile fell in to a look of horror as he saw a sleeping Jack with his arms wrapped around a blonde chick.

Feeling like someone had slapped him around the face, he dropped the breakfast with a crash, the glass shattering on the floor into a million tiny shards. Jack sprung from the bed at the sudden noise, sitting up and staring wide-eyed at his boyfriend.

"A-Alex?" He stuttered, pulling the comforter up to hide himself, the blonde copying him and covering herself.

This was the reason Jack had been so distant, he was being un-loyal to Alex once again. It couldn't be happening again, he wouldn't let it. He wouldn't let the love of his life trample all over his feelings like he didn't matter.

"Get out." Alex choked, turning on his heel and walking out of the room.

He went back into the kitchen and stuffed Jack's gift in the trash. He felt so betrayed. Sure, kissing people was one thing, but sleeping with someone was reaching a whole new level that Alex couldn't handle. It felt like Jack had reached into his chest, ripped his heart out and kicked it to the side like a play toy. When you love someone as much as Alex loves Jack, it's like you're not two separate people anymore, but one. And when that's broken, it feels like your whole world is crumbling down around you and everyone is laughing.

Soon, Jack emerged from nowhere, doing up the zipper on his jeans and flattening out his sex hair, a guilt ridden look on his face. "Alex, I'm so sorry."

He didn't want to hear it. He didn't want to hear the excuses or the lies, and the fact that Jack was even attempting to justify it just made Alex mad. Not just a little bit mad, but filled with a white burning rage.

"I said, get, the fuck, out!" Alex yelled, not caring for the neighbours, for the whore that was probably still led in his own bed or even for Jack. He just wanted him out.

"Fine! I'm fucking leaving!" Jack screamed back, stomping back towards the bedroom to pack his stuff up.

"When you go," Alex called out after him, still shouting the place down, "Don't ever think I'll make you try to stay!"

He heard a muffled response, but he didn't care what it was, probably a smug remark that Jack thought would be funny.

Thinking about recent events, Alex was shocked that he hadn't figured this all out sooner, all of the signs were there just like the ones he got when Lisa had cheated on him when they were dating. Maybe Alex was just wrapped up in this puppy love, or most likely it would be that Alex just didn't want to believe it.
Jack was always pulling crap like this, cheating and just treating him like shit, but love makes you do crazy things, you want to believe that that person wouldn't hurt you, but that's what he gets for trying to settle down with someone like Jack. He was setting himself up, only to get torn down.

Following him angrily into the next room, Alex saw Jack throwing stuff into the suitcase that he always took on tour, and the blonde girl nowhere in sight, having left via the back exit.

"You're still the 'good for nothing'....I don't know!" Alex snapped, casting his mind back to all the times he'd hurt him before.

Alex should have know better than to have faith in Jack, but now it was too late. The younger man didn't argue back, nor look at Alex, merely grunted and carried on packing. He didn't even want to salvage the relationship, it was as though he gave up a long time ago, and to Alex, that's what hurt the most. Being strung along and led to believe that someone cared for him the way he cared.
It all just made him even more angry, and he needed an outlet for the anger before he hit Jack, and despite it all, he didn't want to cause him pain, so instead, he put his clenched fist right through the bedroom door.

"You'd better get out while you can." He breathed, trying to calm himself down.

At this, Jack finally looked up at Alex and studied him carefully, from his red flushed face to his knuckles that were slowly trickling blood into the white carpet beneath him that was still littered with the smashed up glass. He pushed his way past Alex, and walked towards the front door, still not bothering to fight for him, he set down his house keys on the counter, and unplugged his phone charger that was near the toaster.

Turning around, he came face to face with Alex, who had been hot on his tail. Not knowing how to explain to Alex about everything that had been happening, or how he was feeling, he simply sighed as he saw a single tear escape the corner of Alex's eye, and muttered out the only thing he could think of to maybe lead to an understanding of what had happened.

"I don't love you like I did yesterday."
