Fake It For Me

Twenty-two.

“Fallon! We did it! We signed with Interscope!” Jack screams, rushing over to engulf me in a massive hug. I laugh as his tries to lift me in the air, his sweaty head resting on my shoulder. He’s been drinking and I’m pretty sure he’s less than two more drinks away from either passing out or throwing up.

“I know! I’m so proud of you!” I smile brightly. Just last week the band finalized things with Interscope Records and they’re now a part of the Interscope family. In our excitement, Cass and I put together a party just for them to celebrate their big night and so far it’s been a complete success.

“Did you come by yourself?” Jack shouts over the music.

I shake my head, wiping some sweat off my face and nod over to the bar. “Daniel’s over there getting me a drink.”

At the sound of Daniel’s name Jack makes an extremely unattractive face and I try to fight off the laughter bubbling in my throat. He still hasn’t accepted the fact that Daniel and I are back together even though it’s been almost two months since we’ve been official. Whenever I go over to Jack’s he always makes some comment about “Falex forever”. “Are you sure Daniel went to get you a drink? I don’t see him over there, but I see Alex! It’s a sign Fallon. A sign!”

I roll my eyes and look over at the bar and sure enough, my gaze instantly finds Alex and I can feel a smile tugging at the corners of my lips when I see him. When our eyes meet, his smile is just as wide as my own and I turn around to tell Jack I’ll be back, but Jack’s already gone.

“Hey.” I say, reaching Alex and falling into the seat next to him. “Congrats. I’m so proud of you!”

He smiles and wraps his arms around me tightly. “I’m proud of us too!” He laughs and pulls away from me, keeping an arm on my shoulders. “Thanks for all this. You and Cass didn’t have to.”

I shrug and place a light kiss on his cheek. “But we did. To you guys!” I raise my glass and knock it into his, just as the music suddenly stops, followed by a loud tapping on the microphone.

I follow everyone’s eyes to the stage and mine widen as I see Daniel standing on stage, looking so small under all of the lights. But it’s Daniel I confirm as he clears his throat into the mic, sending a loud screeching sound through the speakers. “Sorry.” He mumbles, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink.

“Get off the stage!” Someone, who I’m pretty sure is Jack, yells from the crowd.

Daniel’s face flushes an even deeper shade of pink and he nods, holding up his arms in an attempt to silence the crowd. “I will. I’m sorry to interupt but there’s something I need to say.”

“What’s this about?” Alex murmurs, his hot breath tickling my ear. I shrug and shush him, wanting to know what’s going on just as much as everyone else.

“I’m dating this girl and she’s the most amazing person I’ve ever met and I love her and I know that we’ve only been back together for a few months but I have to ask,” He takes a deep breath as we all wait in suspense and I can feel eyes on me wondering what’s going on as Daniel speaks. “Fallon will you marry me?”

All air escapes my lungs as I stare at small, nervous Daniel on the stage, down on one knee holding out a tiny little box to the crowd. From where I’m sitting with Alex I can see the small reflection of what looks like a ring. “Fallon? Where are you?” He asks, his voice almost on the edge of panic.

I lick my dry lips and suck in some air before raising my arm and shouting, “I’m here.”

I swivel around in my chair as the spotlight falls on me and my eyes meet Alex’s wide brown ones. He looks stunned as he sits beside me, his arm still wrapped around my shoulders. “So what do you say?” Daniel asks, nerves making his voice shake.

I’m still looking into Alex’s eyes and it’s only when he gives me a weak smile, that I realize I’m looking to him for a sigh, for something that will tell me how to react right now. So when he smiles and nods encouragingly, I smile back, and say yes loud enough for the crowd to cheer and Daniel’s shoulders to sag in relief. But even though I said yes, I’m not sure if I really meant it for Daniel because I never took my eyes off Alex.

Notes

I'm not too crazy about this chapter. It was supposed to be longer but too much drama in one chapter. Anyway I'm pretty sure you guys don't want to know but I can't go to see atl in april because my sister would rather go on a date than drive me to the concert. Needless to say I'm in a funk. :(
