Sixteen and Married

Prologue

Alex’s POV

“If you love him so much you might as well just live with him! We don’t want you here Alex, we never did! You’re a mistake! Leave! If you’re getting married to that scum just live with him!” My mom screams at me as I huddle in fear when I told her that I was getting married to my boyfriend of three years.

I rush to get my stuff from my closet and run outside all the way down to Jack’s house, he’ll protect me from further pain. I’ve gotten so much of it as a child and now at sixteen it’s only gotten worse.

As soon as I get to the red brick town house of where Jack and his parent’s live, I ring the doorbell and faster you can say Yellowcard, my fiance opens the door with wide arms.

“How did I know you were coming?” He asks jokingly but hugs me as tight as he can without hurting any of my bruises from my mother.

“Because I told you I was going to tell Mom that we were getting married soon and you know everything.” I say with a sad tone in my voice as he brings me into his kitchen, knowing I was hungry from not eating anything since last night.

“Everything will be alright baby, everything will be fine. Now why is it you have a bag with you?” Jack says, popping in a sesame seed bagel in the toaster for me, knowing I love that kind of food to eat when I’m sad.

“Mom kicked me out, she told me that if I loved you so much that I might as well just live with you. Can I? Please?” I say with sad eyes as the bagel pops out of the toaster.

“You can live with me forever just as long as you love me. My parent’s won’t mind, they had a feeling this would happen one day.” My skunk haired fiance says while putting on a nice, thick layer of creamy peanut butter and crushed Milanos over my food, well-informed that I like that combination.

He brings it over to me and I quickly eat it all in just a matter of minutes.

“You were so hungry, now how about we head to my bedroom, play some video games. We can play Pokemon or Animal Crossing if you like.” Jack says, mentioning my favorite video games.

“Can we play Animal Crossing? I want to watch you play in your town. Did Bluebear move yet? You know I don’t like her at all. She was rude to me! Who pushes someone into a Pitfall Seed?” I say as he chuckles and takes my left hand to drag me up the stairs to his room so we can play on his 2DS, him never liking the 3DS because it was strange to him and never used it so he gave it to me when he got his new one.

We get up to his room and we jump onto his black couch, it’s soft but not overly soft so it’s just perfect.

Grabbing the blue 2DS, I turn it on and hand it to Jack, making it one step easier for him to play.

We get to the game and once we get started we just can’t stop until Jack’s mom comes and gets us for dinner, she didn’t want to cook so we all hopped into her minivan and headed to Olive Garden, all having an amazing time there and joking with Ahri, Jack and I’s friend from school and our waitress.

Everything was perfect but terrible in that moment, knowing she potentially can’t stand me. Just like most people on this planet.

*Later That Night*

“Jack, what will happen when we get married? Will anything change? Will people make fun of us? What if they make you divorce me? Please don’t let that happen? Jack ple-” I cry into my fiance’s chest on his brown framed queen bed as I get cut off by him.

“Nothing will happen to you baby boy, nothing and if anything or anyone tries to tear us apart, I’ll make sure they won’t hurt you. They can hurt me all they like but once they touch you, I’ll make sure they don’t hurt my little Alex Barakat. No one will, please believe me.” He says, holding me close and thumbing away my tears off my pale, tear covered face.

“Promise?” I say, holding my pinky up.

“Pinky promise. We’ll never be something that we’re not, we’ll only be who we are and that’s all we’ll ever be since we have this undefying love no one could take away from us.” Jack says, latching our pinkies together.

“Just keep your promise please, I don’t want to fall to pieces, all I want to do is sit and stare at you all day long if I could because I love you so much.” I tell him, cuddling closer into him as he lays us down from our sitting position.

His hands run back and forth from my hair and down to my back, comforting me from my panic as I fall asleep, stars shining through the window on the cold Baltimore night and snow still staying on the window pane ever so perfectly.

“All we’ll ever be is something that we are, never something that we’re not. All we know how to be is someone who we are, never the boys who we aren’t. We have to be real because a mask only fools people on the outside. Pretending to be someone we aren’t will take a toll on the real us, and the real us is more important than anyone in the world.” Are the last things I hear before I fall fully asleep and I’ll remember to take every word he says into consideration.
