She Works For The Weekend

Robyn

Fuck. No. Not that either. That sucks too. That's no where near close. Ah, screw it. I jumped up from the bed I couldn't get comfortable on and started wandering around my apartment. It was great to be back home again, I could walk around in nothing but a baggy band shirt and no one would care. The horrible fact was I spent more time on the road than I did at home, and as welcome as Selene and I's bed was, I had grown way too accustomed to my cramped up tour bus bunk. At the moment the record company had me jumping around small, up and coming bands that they were trying to establish. If you get their live sound good, you get more fans at their gigs. More fans, more money, more... everything. Bigger venues, better equipment, better opportunities. I threw myself out of my bedroom and opened the kitchen cupboards, full, but of nothing I wanted to eat. I really craved cookies.
I picked up the glass bowl that sat on the kitchen counter and laughed at it. Why had I even insisted we get this? A “wallet bowl”. I mean, yeah, it made sense, somewhere for visitors to keep their keys and shit so they didn't lose it around the house while they were her for a party or something, but we didn't have many people over for it to actually be put to use. Hell, we hadn't hosted a single party here over our years together, I knew that was my fault. I was never home for long enough to plan one so we always went out. Going out. Yes. Good idea.
I had been so bored sitting around all day while Selene went out to work. I could tell she was hiding something from me yesterday as well, her eyes always flickered around the room like they did when she was nervous and it had been playing on my mind. I needed to go outside, to do something, to take my mind off the niggling feeling that she was keeping something from me. I power slid into our bedroom, giggling at my own immaturity. I had way too much energy for my own good, maybe it was the thirteen hours of sleep I had just clocked up.
“Come at me, band shirts!” I yelled at my wardrobe before whisking the doors open. The one downside of my job as a sound tech, my company really dislike you wearing band shirts on the job. The boss had some vendetta against advertising other bands, so I usually just ended up wearing the merch of whoever I was touring with, but it was all cheap and poorly designed.
I ran my hand along the row of hanging clothing as stopped as I spotted my Pierce The Veil tank top. It was my favorite just because of how damn comfortable it was. I whisked put a pair of shorts so I didn't die in the Californian heat and jumped into the shower, smiling at the thought of being able to stay at home with Selene for longer than a week. I was never home for long, but this time I had clocked in enough hours to get a decent three week break.
“She works for the weekend,” I started to sing the first song that popped into my head as the warm liquid ran down my body, the water turning slightly purple as the dye from my hair ran with the water. “Mix tape of her favorite bands. Tearin' up the radio, lost in the stereo sound. She's trouble in a tank top, pretty little time bomb, blowing up I'll take you down. Living in the radio...” I jammed away to the beat of the water until I had done all I needed to and stepped out onto the bathmat. I wrapped the towel around me and flipped my head upside down so when I ran the hair dryer through it I would get the most volume from my thin hair. After I had spent at least half an hour meticulously straightening my hair I realized that all my make up was still packed in my suitcase from tour.
“Aw, fuck.” I mumbled as I dropped the towel and pulled on my ripped denim shorts and tank top. I couldn't be bothered rooting through my case to find my small bag which could be hidden under any amount of crap I had acquired, so I resorted to borrowing Selene's. She wouldn't mind. I pulled open the top drawer and grabbed the foundation and eye liner which was readily visible. Where the fuck was her mascara? I rooted further into the drawer, passing the eyelash curler and eyebrow pencil, until my hand fell over something out of place for a make up drawer. I pulled the stiff pieces of card out into the white light and stared blankly at them. Oh. My. God. I ran my fingers over the bold print, trying to believe what I was seeing was real. Selene had told me specifically we couldn't go. I tried to convince her, I argued with her for hours over this and the answer was always a resounding no with one excuse of the other. “We can't afford the House of Blues, Robbie.”, “I have to be working the next day.” or “I might have to pull a late night.” That little red headed fucker. A smile crept its way across my lips as I realized her deception.
“All Time Low. You pretty little minx.” I giggled as I slid the card back into the spot where I had found it, only for my hand to fall across something even harder, bigger... square? I grabbed the soft shape and ripped it out of the drawer, my curiosity over whelming me. “Aw, shit.” I mumbled as I turned the little velvet box over in my hands. I had most definitely discovered something I was not meant to, I had a habit of doing that. No, I had to put it back, I couldn't look. It would be wrong of me to peek. But, if she was silly enough not to have found a better hiding place... I flicked the lid open to reveal two sparkling diamond rings, identical in every way. I pulled one out and turned it over in my hands, the small white gold bands decorated with a flawlessly cut diamond with two sapphires adorning either side. I slid it onto my finger, the need to feel the metal on my skin overwhelming me.
"Oh my god." I whispered, turning it around on my finger, admiring it from every angle. It was perfect, she knew me too well. I let a small, excited squeal escape my lips and gently place the ring back in the box exactly how I had found it and rearranged the drawer, placing everything back where it was previously, hoping to god that Selene wouldn't notice I had delved deeper into her drawer than I planned to. I pulled open the drawer below to reveal the several boxes I had lying there, though none of them held engagement rings. I sifted through my piercings, changing every one, I was bored of the one plain set I had taken on tour. I swapped out my simple silver nose stud for a black ring and swapped my black lip labret for a silver capture hoop. I swapped the green tunnel in my ear for the All Time Low skull plug I had bought on tour and dove into the make up. I plastered over my blemishes with foundation and filled in my eyebrows. I colored in my lips with a dark purple and ran a light brush over my cheek bones to make them stand out more.
After I was finally satisfied with my appearance and had managed to get my top liner perfect for once I grabbed my purse and phone and skipped out the door of our apartment, locking it behind me. I quickly dialed a number on my phone, Mia, my best friend who also knew Selene well.
"Hey, Rob, what's up?" Her voice crackled through the phone, she must be in a bad service range.
"I wanted to see if you wanted to hang out, I think I found something I wasn't meant to." I smiled cheekily as I pressed the button for the elevator.
"Oh dear," She giggled, confirming what I thought. "Okay, meet me at Dunkin' Donuts in ten minutes." I laughed as I stepped inside the elevator and pressed the button for the ground floor.
"You know what I'm talking about don't you?" I questioned.
"Maybe I do, maybe I don't. See you soon fucker." I shook my head as I stepped out into the lobby.
"Bye, bitch."
Nothing could ruin my day. I was being given tickets to my favorite band by my beautiful girlfriend who it seemed also intended to propose. Holy fuck, I was lucky.
