Forever Young

So It Begins

Warped Tour. Hot days, long nights and an overwhelming amount of people. I couldn't wait to spend the new few months of my life on the bus, with these bands, watching kids go crazy and freak out over the fact that so many of their favorite bands were in one place. The only problem was trying to get back into the routine of having somewhere to be pretty much all of the time. Signings, shows, merch tent apperances, parties, the list just keeps going. But this was tour life and I adored it, no matter how dysfunctional it became at times.

Our first show was today, which meant Matt was pushing us out to the tent to do our signing. We'd all been up for a few hours, even Alex, and had managed to get ready and get something on our stomachs before the day begun. However, the moment we stepped out into the heat, I wished I hadn't eaten cereal for breakfast. At least Ember came prepared and handed me a bottle of cold water. It was her job today to keep the cooler full and help Matt with all the kids in line, waiting to see us.

Gates had opened early, so it was no surprise for the grounds to be as packed as they were, however, when we took our seats in the tent, my jaw nearly dropped from the massive amount of people standing in line. I knew by the time we were done, my hand would be sore, which would make for an awkward show. Might as well get used to it, though.

We sat back and waited for Matt to announce that we were about to begin, sweat already started to bead on our foreheads. At least we were under the tent. Matt and Ember were standing right under the sun, using their clipboards to block it out.

"All right, guys, listen up! This is just a signing, which means there will be no pictures allowed of you posing with the band. Please keep your place in line and have your CD, or whatever you brought, ready. The band has a set to play and we want everyone to have their chance!"

He began letting kids come to the table and I found myself feeling bad for them as well. Most of the guys had taken off their shirts and the girls had gotten half naked. The heat was taking a toll on them as well. Still, they came through with a smile on their faces and handed over their cd's and posters to be signed.

"Ember looks exhausted," Rian commented, sliding a poster my way. I offered the girl who had brought it a smile, signed my name and passed it to Alex. "She and Matt should take turns with their jobs."

I glanced to my wife who was walking around the line. She was making sure that everyone was ready, but she was also being called out by some of the fans who knew who she was. Everyone was interested in her and I could tell that, even though she was being nice, she was mentally cursing at them for making her walk so far just to say hello or smile for a picture. Meanwhile, Matt was standing by the table rushing everyone along.

"I don't think she realized how hard her job was going to be," I admitted, frowning slightly. "She'll get used to it, though. She's tough."

"Tough or not, she needs a break from the heat."

I sighed and continued to sign things. Eventually we managed to get through the entire line, but it took about an hour and a half to do so. The meant we had to rush to our stage and prepare for our set.

"Matt, can you start pushing up the signing?"

"I'll see what I can do," Matt responded to Alex, a small smile on his face. I don't think he expected so many kids to stand in line, either.

Matt left us to check on set-up, seeing as the seconds were counting down until our set. Warped Tour was crazy and pretty tough to manage, but it was worth it. Not to mention, the fact that Ember found her way to us made it all that much more awesome.

"The crowd is making their way over, ya know, the ones that aren't already waiting."

"There are more?" I questioned, peeking around at the crowd. It was kind of hard to stay hidden when we were all gathered outside, but hey, the kids were too busy talking to each other and bragging about who they last saw. "At least our set isn't too long. I'll take you out to lunch when we're done."

Ember beamed and stood up on the tips of her toes to softly kiss my lips. I grinned down at her and brushed some hair away from her face, admiring how gorgeous she was. We'd been married for quiet some time, but she still makes me feel like I'm in high school, trying to swoon her even though I've already got her. Married life was definitely working for us. We hard our large baby and the band was starting to pick up, but we still managed to keep each other happy. I couldn't have asked for a better life than this one.

"It's time to play," Ember smirked, poking me in the chest to shove me back a bit. "Don't hurt yourself out there."

"Don't hurt yourself watching me be all sexy," I warned, sending a wink in her direction. "It's so hot I just might have to get naked. You'd never be able to resist me!"

"Yeah, yeah," she giggled, rolling her eyes. "You just better make sure other girls can. I'd hate to hit a fan."

Despite the fact that I was laughing, we shared one last kiss before Alex was shoving me onto the stage with him. The crowd had doubled in size and kids were yelling at us, holding up their camera or clothing. Alex started in, talking about how hot the day has been, but when their attention was turned to me I made one simple comment.

"I'm going to take my shirt off, but don't stare too hard because my wife has rage issues!"

Earning a laugh from the crowd, I sent another wink to Ember who was watching from the sidelines. This was going to be the best tour ever, I could just feel it in my bones.
