Rian St. Dawson

Ch.6: Reality Kicks In

Rian's POV:
For 2 months, I would sneak out late when everyone was asleep and go to the abandoned house to see Cassadee. She was the only thing that kept me alive. I was scared if I didn't see her, that I wouldn't last. She was my light. Also, if I died, would my spirit go to her, or would something else happen?

I was sitting on the floor, in front of Cassadee, the guys and I just got news today that we have to fly to California to work on the new album so that we could release it on time. And shortly after that, we would have to leave again for tour. Its when I realized that this can't last forever, and I didn't know how I would survive.

"Whats wrong Rian? You been quiet for a while." I slowly look up at her, she had a concerned look. I didn't want to tell her, but she would figure out something is up if I didn't show up after a couple of days.

"This morning... the guys and I got news that we have to leave soon." "To where?" "California. We have to work on the album and start to prepare for the tour shortly after the release of the album." She was quiet, and the air seemed to shift a bit in the room. "Cassadee?"

She looks up at me with big eyes, "I'm still here." What just happened? "How.. how long do you think you'll be gone?" "For a few months, you know how tours work." "So half a year," she spoke softly. I nod and look away from her. I didn't want to leave her, but reality kicked in and I realized I still had a life to live and work.

"I promise I won't forget you Cassadee, and when we're close enough, I'll come here. I promise." She was still quiet, she looked away from me and disappeard. "Cassadee? Where'd you go?"

The feeling in the room changed, it didn't feel happy anymore. It felt... like anger or sadness. "Cassadee?" I get up and walk out of the room, the air was cooler now. "You'll forget about me Rian, I know you will," her voice spoke softly through out the house. "I won't, I promise. How can I forget you? I love you." "Your lying!," she screams.

"Cassadee you know when I make a promise, I keep it." "How can I believe you Rian? There would be other girls on the road, I know how the guys are," she sounded angry this time. "You know I stayed faithful to you when you weren't around before, why would I now?" "Because you can't love me the way as you did before!!," she cries and appears in front of me.

"Your gonna grow tired of me, and meet someone else who can love you more." "Cassadee-" "I know I'm speaking the truth Rian," she growls. She didn't sound like her old self. "I can't leave this place, you can. Which is why I know it will happen." "I promise it won't." Her eyes snap up and look into mine, they weren't sparkling.

"I know what I say is true Rian," she hisses. "What do I have to do to show you that I'm speaking the truth." She disappears and her hum through the hallway. "Follow me Rian," her voice fills the house. I walk down the hall and down the stairs, "where am I going?" "Just follow my voice." I keep walking and reach a door, I open it and realize that it was the basement. "Is it safe down here?" "If it wasn't, would I ask you to come down here?"

I slowly walk down the stairs, it was pitch black. I held onto the hand rail and felt each step before reaching the bottom. The light blub goes on, it flickers and I look around. It was empty down here. "Rian." I jump at her voice and turn around, she was standing behind me. "Why did you bring me down here?" "There's a ring down here, that you can wear. I had put part of myself in the ring, so that way, we can still be together. We can communicate as well. I want you to take the ring, and when you wear it, thats when the magic works." "Where is it?" She points past me, "over there."

I turn around and walk towards the wooden staircase. There was a large crack in the old wood and I see a silver ring that looked beaten up stuck in the crack. It takes a couple of tries but I finally got the ring out. I held it in my palm, and looked at it. It was old, cold, scratched, and beaten up. I slide it onto my finger, and something fills me. What was that?

"What your feeling is the connection between us, I'll know when your wearing the ring, and we can communicate." "How will we?" "Different ways, in your thoughts, fog on the window or steam on the window. Anyway you could think of." That sounded kind of creepy, but it was my only way to stay connected to her while I was away. "How will i know its you?" "You will, trust me."

She disappears and the light blub goes out. "Cassadee, I need to get out you know." "Get out...," something whispers by my ear. I jump and turn to look, but it was pointless. "Cassadee?" "Get out. You been warned. GET OUT!!," the yell fills the room and I run for it. I feel for the stairs and run upstairs while holding the hand rail.

I run out of the basement and out of the house. I reach my car and look up at the house, something about it seemed off. That voice didn't sound like Cassadee.
