Tear Drops In My Stocking [CONTEST ENTRY]

1/3

"They're calling for snow tomorrow."

Alex perked up, spinning around in his computer chair to face the brunette leaning on the door frame. The white, soft sweater that covered her torso brought out the glow in her pale, green eyes. He took in every inch of her body, from the way her dark, long hair hung loosely around her shoulders, to the way her skinny jeans showed off her height. She was gorgeous, even with her bright pink nose from the cold weather outside. Alex could just imagine snowflakes sticking in her hair, dancing along her cheeks bones, making her smile brighter as she tried to catch them on her fingertips.

"I hope you're ready to get your butt kicked in an epic snowball fight," Alex winked, patting the empty space on his lap for the girl to sit. "I'm guessing it's cold out there, huh?"

Leigh sighed, bending her knees to curl up against Alex's chest. She couldn't deny that his body heat was the perfect remedy for the cold. She nuzzled her nose in his neck and nodded her head, a small smile playing on her lips. He knew perfectly well she'd fought through the brisk wind to find him the perfect Christmas gift and this was his way of bringing it up.

"It's freezing," Leigh finally spoke, pulling herself away from him so she could see his face. "At least the mall extended their hours this week. I will never, ever go shopping on Christmas Eve, ever again."

"I tried to tell you that you were crazy," Alex snorted, rolling his eyes playfully. "It's your own fault. You never get anything done on time."

It was true and Leigh knew there was no point in trying to argue with him. She was never on time for anything, and yet, everything always seemed to work out for her. Honestly, she surprised herself sometimes with how close she cut things. At least now she could say she was ready for Christmas and that, she hoped, Alex would be happy with his gift, which she'd already wrapped and stuffed under the tree.

"Yeah, yeah," Leigh sighed, crawling off of his lap to stretch her back. "I'm going to make some hot cocoa. Want some?"

"Yes, please."

Leigh nodded her head and made her way out of the room. Alex spun back around in his computer chair and stared down at the notebook in front of him. He'd taken his free time to work on some music, but honestly, he couldn't focus. Said boy was too worried about making this Christmas absolutely perfect. After all, it was the most important one he'd had in pretty much his whole life.

This year would be his and Leigh's first Christmas together, ever.

Some would say they moved too fast, but neither of the two could agree with them. They met on New Year's Eve, at a party hosted by the infamous Jack Barakat. The countdown had begun and both of them were wandering the area, trying to get away from the sloppy drunks and happy couples getting ready to ring in the New Year together. Leigh's body literally smacked against Alex's as they both entered the kitchen, reaching for a fresh beer.

"Oh gosh, I'm sorry! I wasn't even paying attention!"

"Don't sweat it. You're probably in a rush to get back out there to your boyfriend, huh?"

"Actually, no," Leigh frowned, twisting the cap off of her beer. "I'm all alone tonight. Just needed to get away from all of the romance. Makes me feel kind of weird that I have no one to kiss tonight."

"Really?" Alex rose an eyebrow, staring her up and down. He found it hard to believe that a girl like her didn't have a man clinging to her arm. "I never would have guess you were single," he chuckled, taking a sip of his new beer, "but I understand. I'm all alone tonight, too."

"No way," Leigh smirked, shaking her head. "I don't believe that."

"Right?" Alex snorted, shaking his head. "It's true, though. I came here with a group of friends and it never even crossed my mind to find a date."

"Bet you regret that now, huh?"

"Yeah, about as much as you do."

Leigh blushed and took a long sip from her beer. At least now she knew she wasn't alone, so that was a plus. On the other hand, a drunk Jack Barakat stumbling into the kitchen with a girl on his arm made her realize that she was, in fact, going to ring in the New Year by herself.

"Come on, kitchen dwellers! Pair off, the ball is about to drop!"

As Jack made his way out of the room, girl still by his side, Leigh felt a frown coming to her face. All around her, people were filing out of the kitchen, until only she and Alex were left. Said boy shifted his weight and scratched the back of his head, glancing back and forth from the girl to the door.

"Would you want to, uh, you know?"

"You mean... ?" Leigh's eyes grew wide, but her smile grew wider. She didn't know what was coming over her, but she liked it. "Yeah, I that'd be okay."

Alex sat his beer on the counter, Leight mocking his actions, and pulled the brunette through the house. When they reached the living room, where other people were paired off and holding each other, the turned to face her.

Five!

His hands connected with her hips, his eyes locking on hers.

Four!

Leigh slowly wrapped her arms around his neck, embarrassed to be so close to a stranger.

Three!

Alex gave her a soft smile, trying to prove that he wasn't just some creep willing to kiss anyone in the room.

Two!

She leaned in closer, a blush coming to her cheeks as Alex's breath hit her mouth.

One!

Alex brushed his lips across her own, sealing them with a tender kiss that nearly took her breath away. He pulled her closer, tilting his head to the side for better access.

Happy New Year!

In that moment, they both knew there was no turning back.

Leigh moved in with Alex on Valentine's Day. Since then, they've been nothing but happy in every choice they make. The last year they've been together, they've been been beyond happy. Honestly, they were one of those couples that would make you sick to see in public, or private, for that matter. Everything they did was loving. In short, they were adorable and open with their affection. Even when they argued, one of them would give up and give the other a kiss to end the fight.

Perhaps that's why Alex was itching so badly to give Leigh her Christmas gift. The other things he got her, the things that could be wrapped or stuffed in her Tinker Bell stocking, they could never compare to the one thing he's been dying to watch her open. Or, as it should be done, for her to watch him open.

"Alex, the hot chocolate is ready!"

A small smile formed on his lips as she slid out of his seat and made his way down the stairs. Leigh was sitting on the couch, her legs propped up in the middle and her boots lazily tossed to the side. She was clinging to her cup of cocoa and her eyes were focused on the Christmas specials that were on repeat for the week.

He bent over quietly and collected the black, velvet box that was hidden against the base of the tree. His palms began to sweat as he neared the couch, though the feeling in his gut told him he was doing the right thing, that this was the perfect time.

Alex got down on one knee, his hand shaking as he held the box in the air for her eyes to see. As he tipped it open, a dazzling diamond came into view. It wasn't real - at least not all of it - because he knew Leigh was disgusted by the idea of blood diamonds, but what was real made her eyes sparkle from the gem. The silver band only added to the glimmer.
Clearing his throat, a smile tugged at his lips as he watched the tears pool in her eyes. Confidence flew through him and he knew exactly what to say.

"Lee, you're the best thing that's ever happened to me. From the moment we met, to the first kiss we shared, I knew we'd spend the rest of our lives happier than we've ever been. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll be together forever, but it would bring me so much joy and honor if you would share my last name."

She shivered as he pulled the ring from the box and tossed the velvet on the couch. He inched closer to her to grab her hand, just before he spoke again.

"Leigh Allison Ramey, will you be my bride?"

Notes

I hope it snows this week, a snow flake on your cheek would make this Christmas so beautiful.

GUYS I AM SO SORRY.
My life has been chaos and the rest of this sucks. I put some work into the first chapter, lost the last two and had to rewrite them, totally lost my muse and ended up just throwing crap together because I didn't want to drop out two days before the posting date. I seriously apologize for the crap that this entry is. WORST THING I'VE EVER WRITTEN.
SaraBeth, please forgive me! <3.
