Sit Back, Gotta Catch My Breath

I quit strumming my guitar when my mum entered the room, followed by... Cassadee?
"You have a visitor," Mum said, smiling and gesturing to Cassadee.
Wait, so, I was allowed visitors, now, but I still can't step a foot out of the house?
"Isn't she pretty?" Mum asked as Cassadee stepped passed her. "I'll just leave you two alone." She happily turned on her heel and left the room, closing the door behind her. As soon as the door clicked shut, Cassadee crossed the room and sat next to me on my bed.
"Hey, Alex," she said, smiling, "How are you doing?"
I blinked a couple times, wondering if that was a serious question. When she said nothing more, I sighed. "Shitty. How about you?"
Her smile grew. "I'm just glad I finally get to help."
I raised an eyebrow at her. "Help?"
She nodded and began digging through her coat pocket. A couple moments later, she pulled out a folded-up piece of paper and held it out to me.
I took the paper from her, still totally confused. I opened the paper and looked at it, my stomach instantly dropping. I knew that handwriting anywhere. It was Jack's handwriting. I began reading...

Lex,
I miss you so much, baby. So so much. But Rian has a plan. At midnight on the dot, Rian will drive around the block. Meet him at the bus stop. He'll pick you up and bring you to me. I'll be waiting. We're going to spend this Valentine's Day together, and no one is going to stop us.
See you then.
Jack
I finished reading and held the paper to my chest. Jack. My Jack. I was going to be with him once again. Thanks to Rian and his amazing plans. A tear slipped from my eye and I giggled as Cassadee pulled me into a hug.
"Thank you so much, Cassadee," I whispered.
She pulled away from the hug and smiled at me. "Any time, Alex. I'm just happy to help. You two are perfect together." She kissed my cheek and stood up. "I'll see you later. And good luck tonight." She smiled at me once more before leaving the room.
I folded the paper back up and slid it under my pillow. As soon as the paper was hidden, Mum walked into the room.
"Well, that was fast," she said, sounding kind of disappointed.
I nodded. "Yeah. She was just checking up on me like the good friend she is."
Mum's clearly fake smile faltered at the word 'friend'. It was obvious that she was wanting more between me a Cassadee, but I liked Jack, and nothing was about to change that.

I zipped up my black jacket and pulled the hood over my head over my head. I glanced at the clock. 11:56. Which meant I had four minutes to sneak out of the house and get to the bus stop.
I creaked open my door and tip-toed down the stairs. I was about to turn the corner and walk passed the living room when I saw my mum there watching tv. I quickly, but quietly, ran back up the stairs and returned to my room. I slowly closed the door behind me and sighed deeply. This only left me with one option. I crossed the room to my window and forced it open. I stepped out onto the roof and inched my way to the edge. I bit my lip as I looked down at the snow-covered trampoline below me. It was a long shot, but Jack was worth it.
And I don't have any time to lose.
I took a deep breath and jumped off the roof and onto the frozen trampoline. For a second, I felt as if my heart stopped. I shook off the daze that the fall left me with and hopped off the trampoline. I trotted across the yard and jumped the fence to the sidewalk. The second my feet hit the ground, I started sprinting down the street. After what seemed like forever, I could see the bus stop, and, sure enough, there was Rian's car pulling around the corner. I picked up the pace, if that was even possible, and ran up to the passenger-side of Rian's car. I smiled at Rian before sliding into the seat and closing the door.
Rian was already continuing down the road before I even had the chance to buckle my seat belt.
After a few moments, I finally decided to break the silence. "So," I whispered, afraid to speak any louder, "Where exactly are we going?"
"I'll tell you when we get there," he whispered back, "Until then, you should sleep. It's going to be a long ride."
I nodded, even though he probably couldn't even see me. I leaned my head against the window and watched as shadows of houses and trees whooshed by.

I woke up to Rian tapping on my arm.
"...Alex... Alex, wake up."
My eyes fluttered open and I looked over at what I could see of Rian. "Hm?"
He smiled. "We're here, bro."
My eyes widened and I looked out the windshield to see a light glow coming from a small cabin. "What is this place?"
"It belongs to Cassadee's family. It's their summer cabin. Cassadee let us borrow her key." He pointed to the cabin. "Jack's in there waiting for you."
My heart skipped a beat. He didn't have to tell me twice. I jumped out of the car and sprinted up to the cabin, stopping at the front door. I turned around to see Rian driving away. I turned back to the door and knocked...
