I took one last look at myself in the mirror before I headed downstairs to wait for Jack. Tonight was the Homecoming dance. I was wearing a white dress shirt, black skinnies, my black on black Chucks, and a tie hung loosely around my neck. I sprayed my hair with hairspray one more time for good measure before grabbing my thin leather jacket off of my bed and heading downstairs. I was greeted by my mum the second I reached the bottom step.
"Honey, you look amazing! But why didn't you ask any of the girls to go with you? I sure they would've loved to be your date tonight." She straightened my tie a little bit and tried to tightened it, but I stopped her.
"I just felt like going with some friends. That's it. I'm going with Jack, Rian, and Rian's cousin, Zack. Then we're probably going somewhere to eat. Oh, hey, can I spend the night at Jack's tonight?" I smiled at her and tried to look as innocent as I could. Jack was the one who told me to ask if I could spend the night with him because he had something special planned.
He wouldn't tell me what his plans were, though. And it was kind of bugging me.
I watched as she thought for a second and then smiled back at me. "Of course, honey. I'll just have to tell your father. He was planning on having a family dinner tonight, but I'm sure I can talk him into pushing it to tomorrow night."
I nodded and smiled. My smile grew when I heard a knock on the door. Mum gave me a quick hug goodbye and kissed me on the cheek as I sprinted to the door and flew out of it, closing it behind me the second my feet hit the front porch. The second the door clicked shut, I wrapped my arms around Jack's neck.
He chuckled. "Well, hello to you, too." He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed the top of my head.
I eventually pulled away from Jack and looked at him up and down. Damn, he looked good. He was wearing a red dress shirt and black skinnies and a pair of red dunks. Damn.
I looked up at his face to see a smirk. "Did you just check me out?"
I smiled and looked down as my face grew warm. "Maybe…" I mumbled.
He chuckled and lifted my chin with one of his fingers. He looked me in the eyes for a second before planting a firm kiss on my lips. He then pulled me close and kissed me a bit more passionately. I wrapped my fingers in his hair and licked his bottom lip. He instantly granted me access and I slid my tongue into his mouth.
We stood there kissing for a few seconds before Jack pulled away smiling. "We should go to the dance. Rian and Zack and Cassadee are probably waiting for us as we speak."
My eyebrows pulled together. "Cassadee? I thought she couldn't go tonight."
He shrugged. "Well, Rian texted me about an hour ago saying that was was going."
I nodded. "Okay, then."
Jack held his hand out and I took it. He led me to the car and we got in. Jack drove us to the school and we were pretty shocked by how many cars were already there. Jack found a parking spot and we got out and walked to the school, standing close, but not close enough for suspicion.
We walked throughout he front doors and down the hall to the gymnasium. The second we set food in the gym, we were greeted by Rian and some girl, who I guessed was Cassadee, and a really buff guy (and I mean really buff), who I guessed was Zack.
Jack and I both gave Rian a half-hug. Jack continued to hug the other two, while I just nodded and smiled to them. I wasn't good with new people. I guess you could say I was socially awkward.

"So, Alex, how long have you and Jack been friends?" Zack asked. We were sitting alone on the bleachers at the moment. Jack, Rian, and Cassadee were somewhere on the dance floor having fun.
I shrugged. "Since, I guess, the second day of school."
He raised an eyebrow. "You guess?"
I nodded. "Yeah. It's complicated…" I looked down at my hands, which were laced together in my lap.
Zack nodded. "Well, okay, then." He was silent for a second. "So, Jack tells me you sing and play guitar?"
I looked at him, then back at my hands. "A little bit. But I'm not that good."
"That's cool. I play bass."
I looked over at him and half-smiled. "That's really cool. Have you and Jack been friends long?"
He shoved his hands in his pockets and looked up at the ceiling. "Um… yeah. Seven years… I think?" He looked at me as he said those last two words.
I nodded again and turned to see Jack walking toward us. Well, speak of the devil.
He sat down next to me and leaned his head on my shoulder and yawned. "M'tired."
I kind of shrugged, reminding him not to do anything that would give us away, but he stayed in place.
We sat there for the rest of the song, receiving a few weird looks. Then a slow song came on, and Jack finally lifted his head from my shoulder and looked at me. I stared at him in the eyes for a few seconds before I felt his hand on mine. I looked down at our hands and then back at him and saw he was half-smiling. "May I have this dance?" he asked.
I blushed and looked down at my shoes. "A-Are you sure you want people to see us?"
"I'm most definitely sure. They can think what they want. I don't want to hide us anymore."
I looked over at Zack, who was smiling, and then at Jack, who was also smiling, but more softly. I nodded and stood up with Jack and followed him to the dance floor, gaining a few more weird looks.
It was when I wrapped my arms around Jack's neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist that some people around us stopped what they were doing all together to just watch us, as if they had never seen a gay couple before.
But, at this moment, I didn't really care. I was in Jack's arms. In public. We were finally out there. There was no going back now. And I was 100% okay with that.
