A Tongue Like a Nightmare That Cut Like a Blade

"I just... I don’t know what to do.”

Surprisingly, Aurora allowed Alex to hold her hand as they walked to the restaurant that he had picked out for them to eat at. The entire walk they didn’t say anything. Aurora looked up at the night sky the entire time. Alex, of course, was watching her. He couldn’t get out beautiful she was under the streetlights.
Alex shooked his head. There was no way that he liked her. He barely knew anything about her, and it was obvious that she didn’t want anyone anyway. He wasn’t even sure if he wanted another girlfriend at the moment, but here he was, thinking about how beautiful he thought she was.
They reached the restaurant and walked inside. It’s a very small place with barely any people inside, but Alex figured that she would like it better that way. That’s why he picked it in the first place. It was the nicest place that most people didn’t know about. He didn’t even know about it until he asked an older man earlier that day.
Aurora’s eyes were bright with happiness as a short blonde girl showed them to their seats. They sat in the corner away from everyone. The tablecloth was a dark green with gold on the edges. She couldn’t help but think how gorgeous it was. Aurora wondered how it wasn’t popular. It looked so nice inside.
“What are you going to order?” Alex asked the mute girl across from him. She shrugged. “Well, it’s an italian restaurant. I didn’t know what you liked, so I just picked a nice one that didn’t have many people.” A smile appeared on her face. It was so big that Alex was sure that her mouth would stretch off her face. “Why are you so happy?”
“That’s my favorite kind of food.”
“Really? Well, I’m happy that I picked it then.”
When the waitress came back, they ordered and waited for their food. Alex wasn’t really sure what to talk about. He didn’t know any of her interests, so that didn’t help him any. He also didn’t know how much she even waited to talk to him. Aurora wasn’t known for starting or getting into a conversation. He finally came up with something to talk about.
“What else to you like? What’s your favorite color?”
“Black, grey, white, and purple.”
“What’s your favorite type of music?”
“The same as you.”
“Favorite flower?”
“Roses.”
“Um, what was your favorite game that we played tonight?”
“I really liked kicking your ass in that dancing game.”
He laughed. “That’s was fun. We should do that again sometime.”
“We should.”
“I saw that you were looking up at the stars when we were walking here. Do you like the stars?”
“The night sky is beautiful. I’m the one in the family that loves the night sky. A-L-E-S-I-A loves the setting sun, our cousin A-N-N-E-T-T-E loves the sun rise, and her twin, A-N-N-A-B-E-L-L-A, always loved the sun in the middle of the sky.”
“Why doesn’t she now?”
“A-N-N-A-B-E-L-L-A is blind. She lost her sight when she was a girl. Luckily, she knows morse code, so I can just tap her hand to talk to her.”
“Wow. I don’t mean to be rude, but you’re family is really messed up. I mean, you’re mute for whatever reason, Alesia is deaf, and your cousin is blind.”
“Her sister is paralyzed from the waist down, and I know what you’re getting at. Our family seems to always have tragic things happening to us. I’m jealous that A-L-E-S-I-A found someone.”
“You’re jealous of her and Jack?”
“She was able to find someone that loves her for her. I’m never going to find someone that feels that way about me. I’m just going to be alone for the rest of my life. No one will ever love the mute girl that just writes song lyrics all the time and plays guitar.”
Aurora wasn’t expecting what happened next. Alex took her face in his hand and kissed her. Her eyes were wide as the man across from her was leaning over the table with his mouth connected to her’s. There was too much to take in in too little time.
The kiss was short and soft. When Alex pulled away, he smiled at her and expected her to hopefully smile back. She didn’t though. Her eyes became watery and slowly a few tears started to spill out down her cheeks. Alex was about to apologized for what he did, but he didn’t get the chance. Aurora got up and walked right out.
Alex regretted not running after her like in all of those cheesy romance movies.
He just sat there.
He just sat there and watched as she got up and left.
Alex hit himself in the head from it all. Why did he have to kiss her? He could have easily just said that he liked her. Hell, he could have just said that she would find someone that loved her eventually because there is someone out there just like her. He didn’t do this though.
He kissed her.
He kissed her and let her walk away.
Alex left the restaurant with enough money left on the table to pay for the food that they didn’t even get to eat. When he was walking out, he noticed an older couple giving him a sad look. Actually, everyone in the place was getting him a sad look.
“What did she say?” the man that Alex had talked to earlier that day asked.
“She was talking about how she would never find someone to love her. I couldn’t help it. I kissed her, and she rejected me. It would have been so much easier if I had just told her that I liked her or that she would find someone.”
“She’ll turn around.”
“Why do you think that?”
“I had to ask my wife out five times before she said yes. She always thought that she would end up alone and that I was just pulling her leg. Just show her that you really do care about her. She’ll turn around just like Mary did for me.”
“I don’t think that it’s going to work like that for us. I didn’t asked her out. I kissed her. Plus, she’s a loner to begin with. I barely know anything about her. I just... I don’t know what to do.”
“Well, what is meant to happen will happen. If she is meant to be with you, she will.”
Alex nodded before walking out of the building. He didn’t want to go to the bus right away, so he walked around a little before going to a park that he found. He sat down on one of the swings and sitting there for awhile before getting up and going back to the bus.
It was silent on the bus when he walked up the small steps. It looked at the watch on his wrist and saw that it was late. He had walked aimlessly around for longer than he thought. Alex sighed and started to go to his bunk. He was about to get in when he heard something that he didn’t recognize.
Alex’s ears led him to the back of the bus where Aurora was with little Jasmine. Aurora had a guitar in hand and was... singing softly to the little girl.

When I first put my stories up, there was an option when creating a story. I've been asked this before, but when I looked to find it, it wasn't there anymore. As far as I know, they don't have the option anymore. It would be nice if it was there again since this story and another of mine need it, but sadly, it's not there.

Thanks! That's one of the best comments that I've ever gotten. As I say in real life because I'm a Japan loving anime freak. Arigatou gozaimasu!

This is so heartbreakingly perfect
@missymoo93
I'm happy you found it cute. I didn't know if it was going to be too cheesy because I'm a hopeless romantic that loves that stuff, and sometimes I think of really cheesy stuff.
Thanks!
