Alex watched as his love slowly starts to fall apart. He’s wanted to go over and comfort her, but he knew that she doesn’t want anyone around her at all. They found out what went wrong a couple of days ago when they had a day off, and it had changed her. Alex is afraid that she’s going to become completely mute again. So far he’s only been able to get a couple of words out of her, and she won’t say anything to anyone else.
“You should go over and comfort her,” Jack told him when he saw his best friend watching his girlfriend from behind the curtain that separates the bunk and the front of the bus. Aurora was sitting in the front of the bus by herself. “You’re the only way that she’ll start talking again.”
“She doesn’t want to talk though,” Alex said. “What if I go over there and she tells me she doesn’t want me anymore?”
“You know that she won’t do that. She loves you.”
“Yeah, but I can’t bare to lose her. She hates herself right now, and I’m afraid that I’m going to make everything worse.”
“You can make everything better though. Come on, Alex. She’s like a sister to me, and I don’t like seeing her like this.”
“I guess you're right... for once.”
“Hey!”
Alex walked out and sat down next to her. She doesn’t even look at him. She just continued to look down at her hands. He hesitated, but Alex put his arm around her shoulder. At first, they just sat like that, but Aurora finally moved and snuggled into his chest. A tear ran down her cheek from the thought of everything. Alex really doesn’t know what to say.
“How are you feeling?” Of course, he ends up asking the obvious.
“I hate myself.”
“Don’t hate yourself.”
“I can’t give us what we want.”
“So what if you can’t carry a kid? That doesn’t make you any less perfect than what you are.”
“I wanted this so bad though, and I know you did too.”
“Yeah, I wanted to be a dad, but I’m still happy, and do you know why?”
“Why?”
“Because I have you. All I need is you, ok?”
“I guess.”
“Why don’t we go out tonight after the show?”
“Where?”
“I don’t know. Let’s go find someplace to eat that’s still open. We haven’t had a date in forever.”
“Ok.”
Alex took Aurora out to an italian restaurant that was just down the street. Both of them ordered spaghetti, and although Alex had finished his, Aurora had barely eaten any. He frowned at her sad face and lifted her chin up before placing a kiss on her lips. Aurora kissed back, but not as much as normal which got Alex all nervous again. He pulled away and started to twirl his hair with his finger.
“You’re not going to leave me are you?” he asked.
“Of course not. I’d only leave if you wanted me to.”
“Why would I want you to?”
“Because I can’t carry a kid.”
“I already told you that I don’t care about that.” Alex looked down before sighing. “I was going to wait to do this, but it seems that the only way you’re going to believe me is if I do this now.”
“What?”
Alex got up and went over to her. Aurora moved, so she was directly in front of him. Once she did this, Alex got down on one knee and pulled a box out from his back pocket. Everyone in the restaurant were watching with smiles on their faces.
“I’m not proposing...yet. This is a promise ring.” He opened the box. “I promise that I’m not going to leave you just because you can’t carry a kid and that one day I really am going to ask you to marry me. I don’t think we’ve been together long enough for that, and I was actually going to save this for when tour ended at least, but I know that you really need this promise right now. I could care less if we never have kids or not because all I need is you. I love you. I love your unique hair, your unique different colored eyes, your smile, your laugh, your beautiful voice... I love everything about you. One flaw is not going to change how I feel about you. I have tons of flaws. Everyone has flaws. It’s life. If we aren’t meant to have a kid, then we won’t have one. All I really want is for you to be in my arms when I’m old. I want to see you every morning when I get up. I want you to be there with me through everything because I’m going to be with you through everything. I am so lucky to be able to call you my girlfriend, and I promise that one day, I’ll be lucky to call you my fiancée and then my wife. Do you accept all of this?”
Aurora isn’t like those other girls. She didn’t start weeping or screaming joy. She had already cried too much, and she still was upset with how things had gone. She just smiled at him and nodded. Alex’s smile was bigger than her’s, but he couldn’t help it. He slid the ring on her finger and gave her a kiss. They could hear everyone clapping for them.
When they got back to the bus, they found that it was empty, so Alex took that as an opportunity to show his love to her even more. Although Aurora still didn’t want to talk to everyone else. She was talking to Alex again, and moaning, and that’s what mattered because they could build from that. They had already been at this stage before. She’d be able to make it back to the way that she was.

Notes

I don't really like this chapter, and it's shorter. I wasn't planning on the promise ring until later, but I wanted her to start talking to Alex again. I'm not very good at fillers, so I did this, and I might have the happy part happen in the next chapter. I might also throw some happy smut in there if I do make it the next step in the story and not a filler. I wasn't in the mood to write any tonight, so I'll make up for it later.
