Can Love Last?

Alex's POV
She doesn't remember me. Oh my god, I can't even breathe. As the doctors start to rush in, I'm glad to be escorted out of the hospital room. That is, until I see a sobbing Rian in the hallway. I walk over to him and put my hands on his shoulders so he looks up at me.

"Rian? What's wrong?"

"What do you mean what's wrong, Alex? She's dead. I've been dreading this call for almost a year now, and here it is."

"Rian, dude. She's not dead. They called you because she's awake."

"Really? Oh my god, man. That's incredible news. Hey, wait. If that's it then why do you look so upset?"

That's it. I break, and as the tears start to fall I fall into Rian's arms. "She doesn't remember me." I whisper, over and over again.

It's my horrible truth.

"Are you two boys here for Ms. Arianna Dawson?" A doctor asks, as the personell clear the room.

"Yes." Rian replies for the two of us.

"Well you may go in and see her now. She should be released tonight. Just as a warning, she seems to have some short-term memory loss, from the past month or so before the accident."

Short-term. I guess that's me, then.

"Come on, man. It'll help her to see you. Right doc?"

The doctor nods, and I let Rian lead me in. Ari's sitting up, and she looks so much healthier than she has.

"Rian!" She exclaims, her face breaking out into pure joy as she holds out her arms and he runs to her, embracing her tightly. I just sort of stand there awkwardly.

"Oh my god Ari, you scared me so badly. I thought I was going to lose you."

"Oh Ri. I don't even remember what happened. And apparently I'm missing a few months. When I woke up, I thought it was summer. But the doctors told me it's almost winter, a year later than I thought. What happened Rian? And who is that?" She said, pointing to me at the end.

"Well, Ari. Long story short, that's your boyfriend. We're in a band together, the three of us, Jack, and Zack. You two were out on a date when you ran out and got hit by a semi-truck." Rian tells her.

Her jaw drops in surprise. "What do you mean? No one would ever date me, especially not a boy as cute as him. And I'm not friends with Jack and Zack anymore."

I tense up. "That all changed, Arianna. You told us everything. About Martin, your self-harm, and why you stopped being friends with Jack. I had just moved here, and we had been dating for a few days when this happened. But we had been friends for a while. And we were in love."

I don't know why I said that last part, but it seems to majorly affect her. She just sits there for a minute, a blank stare on her face.

"Alex....."

Arianna's POV
At first I'm still really confused. But then Alex says it, love. And it brings everything back.
