The night of the graduation, everyone gathered at Jack’s house for the last hoorah. It was hard standing in the Barakat abode, seeing as it made Victoria feel like it might be the last time she’d be in there thanks to Matt’s news from this morning.

She hated this. She couldn’t bear the thought to think about her future. She had five days before Alex left for California, and then he’d be on Warped Tour. He would be so far away all the time, and there was no way he could come back to her. They might as well―

No. She couldn’t think that way right now. She needed to forget it all and have fun for once in her life.

By nine PM, everyone had just crept through the door. Music blasted through the speakers as a bunch of people Victoria didn’t know danced in Jack’s rearranged living room. Boy, was he lucky his parents weren’t coming back until two days later. Victoria sat around and watched the boys dance, Alex every once and a while looking up at her and smiling. That made her feel a little better …

She made her way over to the kitchen, pouring herself a juice Jack mixed with some kind of alcohol into her red cup. She liked it a bit better in the kitchen―the music wasn’t so loud. Alex, a little tipsy but stable enough, sauntered in the room, spotting her and walking over. “Hey, babe,” he smirked and kissed her cheek, holding her hips against the kitchen counter.

She only smiled and looked down at the concoction in her cup, sucking it down.

He saw the worried look in her eyes, and asked the question he was dreading. “Are you okay?” She glanced at him as he waited. “You know, after everything Matt―”

“I’m fine, Alex.” She said blankly.

He narrowed his eyes in suspicion. “Are you sure?”

She wanted to scream it out to him that no, she wasn’t okay. She was so far from being okay. But, surprisingly, she didn’t have the heart to tell him. All she wanted to do was beg him to not leave and stay in this town. She couldn’t do that, no matter how much she wanted to.

She was acting so selfish, and she knew it. She wanted him to stay for her own good. She could greatly admit she was being a selfish bitch. But it wasn’t like she didn’t want his dreams to come true; she did. But she wanted them to come true with her by his side.

Despite the war raging inside of her, she cupped his cheeks and planted a kiss on his lips, whispering, “Let’s just go have fun.”

Alex was the only person who Victoria realized she would dance with. He made dancing joyful and funny. Throughout the whole night, the drinks flowed and the music only got louder. But Victoria didn’t care as long as she continued to dance in Alex’s strong arms.

Although, as soon as one AM rolled along, Alex was almost too drunk to stand. Most of the annual party-goers had started to leave, and by the balance of Alex’s feet, Victoria decided it was time for them to go as well. Jack was already sleeping on the floor when they went to say goodbye, and Rian was too drunk to say a real word. They only sent their regards to Zack and left, leaving Victoria to drag Alex home.

They walked―more like Victoria walked while Alex hung tight to her―under the dim street lights. It reminded Victoria the first time she attended one of Jack’s parties with Alex. She had carried him home the same way. And the next days after the party, she was able to see him through her bedroom window. But in five days from now, she wouldn’t be able to.

This chapter is so short, I'm sorry :/ I managed to get on my computer last night and write this but I was too tired to post it until this morning. But yeah, wow, is this story getting kind of depressing.. I never expected to make it go this way..
