Dallas’s Perspective

“Are you sure?” Alex asked me, and that’s when I faltered. Sure, I still had my apartment, but I’d told Zack that I’d stay with him and tour with the band for the next year. Only a day had gone by, and it was unbearable being in his vicinity.

“I...I don’t know. What am I going to do for the next year? I dropped everything for Zack!” I cried.

Matt appeared and mouthed something to Alex.

“Dally bear, I promise we’ll figure this out later, but I really have to go. We go on soon.” Alex told me.

“Okay.” I nodded.

I don’t know what possessed me to do it, but I just walked out of the venue. I grabbed my stuff from the bus and got a Greyhound back to Baltimore, without leaving so much as a note. I moved all my stuff out of Zack’s apartment, changed my number, and put out an ad on Craigslist saying that I would do merch for a band.

I know it sounds heartless. I just left, when Alex was being so supportive of me. But I just couldn’t take it anymore. Even if I forgave Zack, I doubted he could ever forgive me, and the fact that he'd forced himself on me the other night would still hang over us, keeping us from having a healthy relationship. And if I was with Alex, everyone would probably hate me. I was trapped.

So I just ran.
