You're Sure as Hell Too Good to Let Them Hold You Down

One

A white fifteen passenger van pulled up into the back side of the venue's parking lot, its packed trailer hitched right behind it. From the van, nine guys spilled out into the early hours of the morning, stretching out from being holed up in the van of hours of almost endless driving from the mid-west small town they started the journey from, all the way to Denver.

After the guys had spilled out and started to get work done, the only reason they came out this far finally emerged from the van. The tall, slender girl with deep blue eyes and jet black and red hair was the new solo artist on Hopeless Records: Kenzie Bishop. She ruffled her hair before grabbing the thick locks and tying them up into a high ponytail. She clutched at the sleeves of her oversized Glamour Kills crewneck fleece before joining the guys in unloading the trailer.

Kenzie was the opening act on the tour headlined by her idols in the pop-punk scene, All Time Low. As the opening act, she had to not only get to the rehearsals for the tour a week before the began, but she also had to be up bright and early to get the rehearsal slot set up by the headliner's tour manager, Matt Flyzik.

"Alright, according to Matt's schedule he sent me before we left from home," Kenzie's tour manager and older brother, Mason Bishop, said as he looked down at his binder that held all the information he needed regarding the tour neatly sorted, "We get to rehearse on the stage and see how we want to set up the stage from seven to nine in the morning from now until the rehearsal week is over. We have to be off the stage and our gear stored back stage before 9:10 so the next band can get the stage to practice."

"Sounds easy enough, Mason," Kenzie replied with a yawn, "I wish we didn't have to rehearse so damn early though."

"Yeah well this is how Matt set it up since the other acts are bigger and have bigger sets," Mason replied to his little sister's complaint, "One day you'll be the headliner and I get to make the shots. Until then, we play ball with the big dogs."
Kenzie was walking back from making a Starbucks run with Mason when some jerk ran right into Kenzie, knocking over all four drinks she had in the drink carrier she was holding right onto her tank top and short clad body. The searing hot liquid scalded her skin, surly leaving her skin red and raw.

"Watch where you're walking," the jerk replied, seeing that his shirt was now soaked with coffee but not as bad as Kenzie.

"Watch where you walk, jackass," Kenzie replied bitterly.

"Mackenzie, are you alright," Mason came back since he didn't know she got rammed into, "Oh hi Alex."

"You know him," Kenzie asked.

"You should too," he replied, "That's Alex from All Time Low. Now let's get you back to the motel to get you washed off."
"I can't believe he was such a dick to me," Kenzie groaned, "I've looked up to him for years and when I meet him he's a total douche bag and knocks burning hot coffee onto me."

"I bet he'll apologize for it once he figures out you're the opening act on the tour," Mason replied, trying to console and calm his angered sister.

"I don't give a shit," she replied, "I bet he'll egg on the fact that I'm clumsy and absent minded. Then he'll tease me for my height and it'll be my childhood all over again."

"I doubt that," Mason replied, trying to convince his sister she was imagining the worst case scenerio.

Well the next day, shit hit the fan. Kenzie was tuning her guitar and she saw Alex out of the corner of her eye. Her rehearsal was done and so was his it seemed. She was trying write a new album while on the road and now she was going to be distracted by the jerk that made coffee burn her skin.

"Sup giraffe," Alex quipped, a smirk on his face. Kenzie knew he was going to be a jerk to her.

"Like I never heard that before," Kenzie groaned, "The fuck you want?"

"An apology," he replied, a stern look on his face.

"You ran into me dick," she replied, "Now get the fuck out of my dressing room."

"Um no," he replied. "I want an apology for spilling hot coffee onto me and then blaming it on me."

"You ran into me. I was not at fault for that," Kenzie snapped at him, "You barely got any coffee on you. I got burned by all the coffee that landed on me. I'm the one that deserves an apology!"

"Fuck you, bitch," Alex screamed before storming out of my dressing room. Kenzie groaned loudly before picking up her notebook and throwing it across the room at the bland brick wall.

"What the fuck did I do to get my idol to hate me," Kenzie asked herself once her anger faded away and tears began to fall down her cheeks, "Why does the world have to always tear me down?"
