Chapter 29
He loved me? We sat there staring at each other for what seemed like forever. Jack lowered his face to mine and my heart was about to break free from my chest as I leant up to meet him. I could feel his warm breath brush my lips when my phone rang. I groaned, lowering my face again. I looked down at my phone and recognised the number immediately. Holly. This could not be happening. Jack frowned at my expression.
“It’s her isn’t it? Fiona.” He said, clearly irritated.
“Uh, I-“ He interrupted me.
“Okay, my turn to talk” Before I could stop him he whipped the phone from my hand. This could not be happening.
“Jack don’t!” I said, but it was too late. He had already answered it.
“Look. I don’t know what your problem is, but you are really starting to get on my nerves. Stop calling Rose, she doesn’t want to talk to you” he stared at me as he spoke assertively. There was a pause. Jack’s eyes narrowed for only a moment before widening.
“Don’t call this number again” He said quietly before hanging up. He put the phone down on the floor without breaking eye contact, his eyes burnt into mine. I had to break eye contact, feeling embarrassed to be found out. There was a long silence before Jack spoke.
“Are you going to explain or am I gunna have to go speak to Holly?” Jack’s voice was harsh, it sounded so unnatural. I ran my hand through my hair nervously and returned it to my lap, flicking my eyes up to his. It wasn’t even that he was angry at me, because he wasn’t. It was the disappointment and hurt in his eyes that broke my heart and caused the pit in my stomach.
I didn’t know how to explain why I called her without accusing him of keeping things from me, or looking like a crazy obsessed bunny boiler.
“What did she say?” I asked quietly, trying to divert the conversation for a second whilst I tried to work out what I was going to say to him. He looked at me wide eyed.
“Is that really all your bothered about?!” He said, exasperated. He gently slid out from underneath me and stood up.
“Jack just let me explain!” I shouted after him, but he continued to walk away from me and left the lounge.
“Where are you going?” I shouted, but it was too late. I heard the door slam shut and i was left trying to work out how I managed to destroy everything in the space of 5 minutes.
