I Won't Let You Choke On Your Misery

Chapter 11 - Sand

Alice being Alice and taking 2 hours to get ready, we were running late.
I had looked up the beach Jack had told me to meet the guys at, it was just over an hour’s drive away.

We had been on the road for a while. It was a gorgeous day and we had all the windows rolled down. Alice looked like a model with her ray bands on.

“So, what’s the deal with you and Jack?” I hated gooey conversations like this. I could usually avoid them, but I couldn’t escape it sat in Alice’s car. There was a good chance she was doing this on purpose.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you obviously like him,” I wouldn’t have gone that far, but I didn’t interrupt.

“But if things do work out the way you want them to, what’s going to happen when he goes back home?” She was right, of course she was right. But I didn’t want to think about it. I just shrugged. Alice huffed in dismay, she wasn’t getting anything out of me.

“Almost there now.”

The beach was gorgeous, miles of golden sand. Sandy beaches were so rare in England, it was a treat. The weather was unusually warm for that time of year too. I was baking, but I was reluctant to strip down into my bikini just yet, not in front of Jack. Alice on the other hand whipped her jeans straight off, walking down the beach in just a vest and bikini.

The boys came into view, they were impossible to miss. It looked like they had been there a while. Alex and Jack were play fighting, throwing each other to the floor. Sand was flying everywhere. Zack and Rian were sat behind them with the beer cooler. Despite Alex and Jacks laughter, they found the sandstorm less than amusing.

“Cut it out guys, you’re getting sand all over our stuff. Don’t make Zack get involved. You know shit will hit the fan!” Rian yelled. He had his hand held out, protecting his eyes. Zack spotted us first.

“Hey guys!” He waved at us with a smile. Alex and Jack stopped fighting and they both shouted hello. Alex took Jack off guard, rugby tackling him to the ground. I couldn’t help but laugh, their playfulness was almost childlike. Jack got up, looking surprisingly embarrassed. He smiled at me crookedly as he approached us with Alex.

“Hiya” Alice chirped, hugging Jack.

“Hey trouble” Alex smiled and greeted me the same way he did yesterday, pulling me into a hug. I said hello into his shoulder and he lowered his arms. Alex hugged Alice and they turned towards the beer cooler. I hadn’t opened my mouth to say hello before Jack lifted me from the floor in a bear hug. I could do nothing but laugh, not that I wanted to do anything about it.

“Looks like there’s still room for improvement when it comes to your fighting skills.” I smirked playfully, ruffling the sand out of his hair. He mockingly pulled an offended face.

“How dare you!” I poked my tongue out at him.

“Well if I could defend myself, I wouldn’t need saving would i?” A grin stretched across my face involuntarily, he had a point. I took his hand in mine and followed Alice and Alex over to the beer cooler.
