And Tell Me You Love Me

A New Escape

Alex

I sat at home on the squeaky couch, my cup emptied out in front of me as I counted out today's earnings trying to figure out if I was going to have to play longer shows more often to make enough money to get by. I knew I probably would of, but still, there was that one part of me that was wishing for that miracle to happen. It might have...

Everything in the cup had amounted to thirty-eight dollars and seventy cents, a McDonald's coupon, a business card for Mary's beauty salon, and a lollipop.

It was more than I usually made and I just stared at the random items wondering why people would even put that in a cup when they could clearly see that I was trying to make a profit by playing my guitar for strangers. I just shrugged it off and pulled the wrapper off of the lollipop before putting it in my mouth and folding up the bills that I had collected, making sure to leave out the one that had Jack's number on it.

When the dollars were folded up and placed in my almost empty wallet, I picked up the one left out and stared at the small scrawled number before pulling out my cellphone and typing his number into my contacts and decided that it was about time that I should shoot him a text.

Alex: Hey, Jack. It's Alex. You gave me your number at the park, just checking if you remember.

I clicked the send button without a second thought and placed the phone down on the table before swiping the change into my hand and a dropped it into a jar that I had sitting next to the couch. I had been collecting coins in the jar since I was a young kid and I was hoping that one of these days that I would get off my lazy ass and cash them in for money. I called it my emergency fund for a reason though...

After I put all the coins in the jar, I looked back at my phone wondering if they brown eyed male was going to message me back, or if I was just one of those guys that he thought was hot for a moment and then decided that he could do much better.

I was hoping that I wasn't for many reasons. For one, Jack was the most attractive guy that I've laid my eyes on, but this is coming from someone who has never really been in a serious relationship. Another reason was, he's filthy rich.

I wasn't someone looking at him just for money... Or was I? If I was, I didn't mean to. I was just really tired of scraping the bottom searching for money just to make sure that everything worked properly in my house and that I had enough money to pay for my cell phone each month. Like I've said before, I've lived a pretty rough life since my parents packed up and moved away.

I laid down on the couch and let out a sigh before shutting my eyes and imagining what it was like to live in the male's shoes. He probably had whatever he wanted and more. His life must have been absolutely perfect and he didn't have to worry about not having enough money to go do something or to get something.

I'm just curious if I have a chance with him?

I sat up on the couch only to realize that I had ended up falling asleep while waiting to hear back from Jack. I picked up the phone to see if I had a message from him and when I saw that I didn't have any, a frown fell upon my lips and I unlocked the phone before staring down the number that had been placed in my contacts not too long ago.

I was starting to get the feeling that I had been fooled and I dialed the number just to see if it was really Jack's and not some random person who was going to tell me that they had no idea who the Barakat was.

It rang for a moment before the call was answered by the sound of a female's voice saying, "Hello?"

"Um... Is Jack there?" I asked in confusion of who the girl was and if this was the number that claimed to be the boy's.

"Yes. Hold on one moment," the female's voice said and I heard muffled voices in the background as the girl and someone else were talking.

"Jack Barakat speaking," his heavenly voice filled my ears and a smile spread across my lips.

"So you didn't just give me some random number," I said with a chuckle.

"Why the hell would I do that?" He asked.

"I don't know. I've been blown off quite a few times. You just seemed like the kind of guy that might do that to someone like me," I said and I heard him scoff.

"I would not," he said and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Sure..." I said, still laughing.

"So are you doing anything right now?" He asked and I sighed thinking about what he had in mind.

"Not really. I'm just sitting at home. Why do you ask?" I asked him in curiosity and I heard him laugh.

"Well, I planned on going out later and given the fact that my usual drinking buddy is out of town with his girlfriend, I was wondering if you would like to go out with me?" He asked.

Okay, that was weird. I'm a guy that he knows nothing about except for the fact that I was in the park playing guitar trying to make money. Now he just wants to go out to the bar with me even though I'm some random stranger? Was this guy okay?

"Sure. I don't really have any money though..." I trailed off, thinking about the financial situation I was currently in and the fact that I needed to save every cent that I came into possession of.

"That's fine. I'll pay for you," he said and I muttered, "Okay."

"Alright. I'll meet you outside the park in an hour. Wear something sexy," he said and I could literally tell that he was winking when he said that last sentence.

My cheeks were heated up in a blush when I said, "Alright. See you then," and I hung up the phone without another word.

I had never been asked to go out with a stranger. I'm surprised that he didn't find me creepy like most people would, but I shrugged it off and stood up to go to my room and pull out something that would be more suitable to wear to the bar.

Maybe this boy had a trick up his sleeve that I didn't know about, but then again, that wasn't always a bad thing.
