The tour ended the other day, now Alex and I were on our way to Baltimore to drop off his tour gear before going to Michigan to pick my things from my parents house. Alex and I have now been dating for two and a half months and he felt that me living with him was the best idea and would keep us closer when I decided to stop touring to hold a steady job in Baltimore while he was away or something.

But I was nervous about leaving my homestate to live with him. Michigan was all I knew. My family was here and so were all of my memories up until the tour. I was afraid that I'm that one little baby bird that falls from the nest and dies when learning to fly. Leaving what I knew behind was going to be the hardest thing I may ever do in my life.

"What's bothering you, Courtney," Alex asked as we walked into his house.

"I'm a little anxious about moving," I told him the truth, "Michigan was all I knew. Now I'm going to live here in Baltimore. That is a big change for me and I'm a little overwhelmed by it."

"I'm always going to be here to help you through this. Sometimes the familiar isn't where you belong," he replied soothingly as he took me into his arms, "Maybe starting fresh here will make you so much stronger and you'll understand how I feel whenever I leave home."

"But you always end up back in Baltimore," I replied, "I may never live in Michigan again."

"I never told you my family history did I," Alex took a seat on the couch and invited me over, "When I was just about to be seven, my mom and dad decided to make a change and moved here to Towson with my older half brother, Tom. Things were great for us and I was pretty happy here, but I missed England just like my parents and my brother. Soon tension arose as Tom missed England more each day we lived here. He eventually got to go back, but he died when he was twenty-one. I was twelve when he died and I felt so weak when he passed."

"I don't understand why you told me about your brother," I replied, confused.

"What I mean was, Tom wasn't happy being here and he lost his life where we were originally from. But I know if he gave it a chance like I had, he would have been so much stronger. I owe him for that. The end of his life showed me I can't give up on anything," he explained, "And I don't want you to give up on this either. I know it's hard to leave family behind. I did that with my older half sisters even though they were doing their own thing and being adults when we moved, but I still miss my sisters."

"I'll give this a shot," I told him, lacing my fingers with his, "I'll never learn to be strong if I don't leave the nest."

"That's my girl," Alex smiled and kissed the top of my head, "Now let's get ready to head out on our road trip to get you moved in!"
After several hours of just listening to the radio, talking, and sleeping, Alex and I finally pulled up to my parents house. The sky was dark and overcast, meaning either rain or snow was coming into town and the air was chilly, making me shiver. Alex draped his coat over me as we head up to my parents' front door. I saw no one was home and I opened up the house with my key. I walked in with Alex and released the dogs from the kitchen. Missy and Zoey instantly started to jump up on Alex, making him smile and laugh at the warm welcome. I went into the basement and got my boxes of stuff from my dorm and my huge duffle bag of leftover clothes. I lugged everything up while Alex was distracted by the dogs.

"I'll get what I can upstairs and get the dogs into the yard while you load your car," I told him

"Sounds like a plan," he replied before kissing me quickly.

Finally we had everything loaded into Alex's car, (A SUV thankfully that could hold all of my things I needed at the moment.) now we waited for my parents to come home from work so Alex and I can pay them a visit and let them know I was starting my process of moving out to Baltimore. I knew I was going ot have to plan a trip back out here for what's left or ask for it to be shipped.

"Courtney, Alex, what a nice surprise," my mom greeted us as she and Dad walked in the door, "What brought you guys into town?"

"I'm moving out, Mom," I told her, "Alex wants me to come live with him in Baltimore. We came up in his car to get the things I needed at the moment. We were going to leave to tonight."

"At least stay for dinner," Dad insisted, "We'll make one of your favorite meals, chicken and dumplings like your grandmother makes."

Alex and I stayed for dinner, leaving once we had cleaned up our plates. The drive back to Baltimore, my new home, felt a lot longer than the drive here. I know I'm going to miss the unpredictable weather and all the chances I had to visit my family as often as I would like, but I was growing up now. I was embarking on a new adventure with Alex.

And I was ready to take on anything the world had to offer me, because i have Alex here by my side.

And yes, for reals my favorite meal is my grandma's chicken and dumplings. I am seriously craving some. I know I need to get the recipe from my mom so I can make it for myself sometime. It is so damn good. :)
