So Wrong, It's Right

Running From Lions

I went into my room, and just started throwing things. How could he? How could my won father not get it? Fucking hell, Joyce understood. She was willing to leave us be but all my dad was worried about was rather or not we were fucking. Not that that's any of his business, but still. Telling me to pack my bags, fuck that. He couldn't send me anywhere. Our relatives are far away, mom's dead, and I have two months left of school.

I heard Joyce go into their room. I heard them argue. How the fuck could my dad be willing to cause all this mayhem? Over this? Poor Jack is alone right now, while our parents fight and I'm expected to pack up like I'm leaving.

Well, if that's what he wants.

I took out my school bag, and started throwing things in it alone with my books. I got my two suitcases from the move out of my closet, and started throwing clothes in them. I was pissed, irrational, and the fire in me kept building as I listened to Joyce and dad fight. They never fought, not till now. This was my idea, thus, it was my fault. Once I had everything I needed, I put my bags all in the same spot and set a text. I knew exactly what I was going to do.

I left my room, and went straight towards the one that had angry voices that were trying to be quiet. I slammed open the door, making my dad and Joyce jump.

“I thought I told you-” My dad started, but I interrupted.
“I did pack, but I'm not going anywhere you intend to send me. I could understand if you were a little weirded out by all this, but what you're doing now is complete bullshit dad. If you're going to try to end me and Jack then I'm fucking leaving.” I screamed. “I'll move in with a friend, graduate, and go on tour. If I don't get your approval of this, and hear you give Jack a God dammed apology, I won't ever fucking talk to you again.”
“Ember, you cannot be serious.” He yelled. “This is wrong on so many levels. That's your brother,”
“No he's not. We're not related by blood, we don't even have the same last name. Jack is the person I love, and I won't leave him. He needs me, and I need him. I won't let you get in the fucking way, father or not. Now either accept that, or I'm going.”
“I will never accept it.” He sneered, Joyce gasped.
“Carl...Ember let's just.”
“No, I'm sorry Joyce.” I said, cold and calm. My dad and I were in a stare down as I spoke. “He's not my father anymore. I don't have parents anymore. I'm out of here.”

I left their room, dad didn't do anything to stop me. Joyce started begging him to do something. I shut the door, and turned to go back to my room only to see Jack at the top of the stairs. I froze like a deer in the headlights, hoping he didn't hear any of that.

“You're leaving?” He asked. Fuck, he did.
“Just to Hayleys. I already texted her. I'll see you anywhere but here.” I said, and he walked over to me, pulling me into his arms.
“You don't have to do this. This isn't fair to you.”
“No, what isn't fair I that my dad couldn't realize you made me happy.”
“You could find someone-”
“There will never be anyone else.” I said, breaking into tears. “Why don't you get that? No matter whoever tells me I can do better, even it's you yourself, I will never believe it. I love you. I love you so much. I stuck by everything just so I can continue to be with you. The fighting, the drama, your fits, they mean nothing to me if I can have you.”

Jack stayed quiet, before slowly nodding. I gave him a quick kiss and walked to my room. He followed after me, seeing the bags. I sat on the bed and just cried. He joined me, holding onto me tightly as I sobbed. My phone soon buzzed, and Hayley was here. Taking a deep breath, I got up and grabbed my things. Jack went to help but I stopped him.

“Avoid my dad for awhile.” I told him. “I'll call you tonight, after I figure everything out with Hayley. I'll see you tomorrow. It's a Sunday, we can do anything you want.” I dug into my pocket. “I know you can't drive, but here's my car keys. Tell the guys about all this, they'll help you through it, I'm sure.” I smiled sadly. “We'll make it through this.”
“I know we will.” He mumbled, shocking me a bit. “I love you.
“I love you too.”

With that, I left the room. My dad was in the living room and as I walked by, he stared at me. I looked back at him for a moment, giving him a chance to change his mind. When he said nothing, but scoffed and looked away, I opened the front door.

“Hope you're happy. You lost mom first, now me.” I said, just loud enough so he could hear me.

I got into Hayleys car without a single word. She didn't ask any questions until we got to her house. I told her about everything, and she hugged me telling me I could stay as long as I need. She told her parents I was kicked out of my house, and they were pretty cool about it. I got the guest room, and I just laid on the bed, taking in everything that happened. No yelling, no more adrenline, just the ultimate reality that I just left.I slowly dug out my phone, and called Jack. He answered immediately.

“Ember, are okay?”
“Yeah.... Hayley's parents are going to let me stay here till graduation.” I said, hoarse from the crying I had done.
“You sound terrible.”
“You don't sound much better.” I chuckled. “How are things now?”
“We didn't have dinner, Carl won't talk to me. I've just been in my room.”
“I'm sorry, hun.” I said, rolling over to my side. “I hope he doesn't do anything to you.”
“I don't think he will, babe. Just give me the cold shoulder.”
“You shouldn't have to take that in your own house.” I sighed.
“You shouldn't have had to leave.”
“It's okay.”
“But it's not.” He insisted and I just let it go.
“Just make sure your mom knows I'm sorry. Let's not think about this, okay? Tomorrow, let's...let's go out of town. We can be alone together, do whatever we want, and just relax before you have to go to therapy on Monday and get your results.”
“What if I have a fit?”
“It won't matter.” I smiled. “Anything can happen as long as I'm with you, I won't care.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.” I lookedover at the clock. “Go to bed, get some sleep. Okay?”
“I will, you better too.”
“I'll so well rested tomorrow, I won't sleep for days.” I said, earning a small laugh out of him. “Bye bye.”
“Till tomorrow.” He mumbled into the phone and we both hung up.

I got under my covers, upset that they didn't smell familiar at all. I looked through my suitcase till I found a Raven's sweatshirt I had stolen from Jack. It still smelled like him, so naturally, I threw it on and let his scent drift me off to sleep.
