Long Distance Calls

Four

After the party fiasco, York and Abbey kept the weekend chill and when monday came along York was back to her nine to five job in the heart of Baltimore. When five finally rolled around and her boss Miranda -aka the she-devil- left for the night, York was out of her building and rushing to her car as quickly as possible. When she was safe inside with the music blasting, she shook her hair out of the tight bun she had it in and kicked off her heels to free her sore feet before pulling out and heading home. York knew that Abbey was still fuming over the whole Alex thing, from the party and from the little run in she had at work that weekend. So as she drove home, she made a quick stop at Starbucks to hopefully cheer her up.

When she got home, she found Abbey on the couch, lying on her stomach with her text books scattered on the coffee table untouched. Well it seemed like nothing changed, she was still just as pissed off as she had been all weekend.

"Hello my little college student!" York said once the door was shut. She let her keys fall into the bowl, heels -which she still wasn't wearing- fall to the floor along with her briefcase while she waved the Starbucks in the air. "I brought you a pick-me-up!"

Abbey raised her head from the pillow it had been resting on to look at her roommate. "Is that cup number six of seven that you've had today?"

"If you're going to be mean about it I can just drink yours too."

Abbey was instantly sitting up with her best pout on her face. "I'm sorry Yorky! I love you!"

"Mhm, you just love me for my free coffee." But she handed it over anyway, never have been able to actually be mad at the younger girl ever. "I'll be right back, I'm going to change."

She didn't bother to wait for a reply since her roommate was chugging her drink so she just walked through the living room to her room. Not bothering to close the door behind her, she pulled off her blazer and began to unbutton her blouse as her phone rang. Grabbing it from her pocket, she smiled when she saw that it was Rian and smiled as she pressed accept.

"Hello Robert,"

"Hey Pip," he replied, using her childhood nickname. "How was work?"

"Ugh, the she-devil was even worse today. She obviously didn't get any this weekend. Maybe we should set Lex up with her instead of Abbey, Miranda's getting even worse than before. She obviously needs a man in her life to calm her ass down."

She heard Rian chuckle on the other end of the phone which made her smile also. "Speaking of your roommate, how is she?"

"No improvement. The only reason she sort of happy is because I brought her Starbucks." She replied as she wedged the phone between her ear and shoulder so she could change out of her dress pants and into her favorite jeans.

"Aww why didn't you bring me coffee?" He asked and York could almost hear the pout that he was wearing.

"Because you don't deserve it after the last time you promised me coffee and you ended up drinking mine."

"Aw you're still mad at that!?" Rian asked. "I told you I was stuck in traffic and needed caffeine because I was falling asleep. Would you rather I fell asleep, crashed, and died?"

"Whatever meanie, why are you asking about my roommate all of a sudden?"

"Because I wanted to see if things were doing better for her than with Alex. He's still being a three year old about the whole thing. I think I heard the story about how Abbey verbally abused him when all he wanted to do was simply buy strings from the store about a hundred times. I'm about to pull my hair out."

"Oh don't do that! I won't be able to handle it if you turn into a potato again!"

"Really!? Is that all you heard? You're more worried about my hair than the future of your workaholic roommate!?"

York sighed as she pulled off her shirt and pulled her All Time Low band shirt that Rian had gotten her as a joke over her head. "No of course I care, you know that, I just don't know if this was a good idea anymore."

"Of course its a good idea Pip, just give it time, I'm sure it will work out."

Before she could reply, she heard Abbey call her name with a whine in her voice making York roll her eyes and tell her she'd be right there. "Hey I'm going to need to go in a minute. Abbey is probably calling me because she's hungry and I don't want her cooking because she might almost burn down the kitchen again."

"Ok," Rian replied with a chuckle. "Just, keep trying to convince her that Alex isn't really that big of an asshole and I'll do the same with Alex. This has got to work, we need to convince them that they are actually perfect for each other!"

"Yeah ok, I'll talk to you later Robert, try to stay out of trouble."

"No promises," he answered making her laugh before they said bye.

Once she hung up, she took a deep breath and left her room trying to think of someway to convince her stubborn roommate that Alex really wasn't as bad as she thought. He as actually perfect for her, she just didn't know it yet...
