Long Distance Calls

Two

As soon as they were inside the house, York lost sight of Abbey as she headed for the kitchen to get a drink. Sighing to herself, York turned to the living room where the source of the music was coming from and searched the sea of faces for someone familiar. She had been to Jack's house a few times before when Rian had actually managed to convince her to put down the current book she had been reading get out.

Speaking of Rian, she finally spotted him across the room talking to his tour manager Matt. Destination set, York pushed her way though all the people crowded around dancing and talking, seeking Rian's protection from all the people she didn't know. Why she had managed to convince her to come was beyond her. She just hoped that this little idea of theirs to hook Abbey and Alex up actually worked. Abbey was usually too busy to even take care of herself. Many times York would have to force her to sit at their table and eat an actual meal besides a PB and J sandwich and chips.

"York?" Rian asked as she finally made it over to him. "Whoa I didn't recognize you. You're hair is actually down and not hiding behind your glasses."

York frowned as she looked down at her black skinny jeans, combat boots, and flannel button down. Sure her hair was actually down instead of twisted into some tight creation she usually styled her hair in for work and was wearing for contacts for once. But she hadn't thought it had been that drastic of a change. Then she looked up and saw Rian smirking at her making her realize he was just joking.

"Not funny Robert!" She said with a scowl as she punched him. "You're mean."

He laughed and wrapped an arm around her shoulders bring her closer, "Aw Yorky, you love me."

She mumbled whatever under her breath as Abbey also joined their little group. The younger girl already had a red solo cup in her hand and was scowling slightly. Something that York had not been expecting to see since they were at a party and any other time she loved them.

"Whats with you?"

"Some asshole spilled a drink on me." Abbey replied, gesturing to her damp shirt.

York frowned and glanced around the room, older sister instincts kicking in at top notch. "Who?"

"Just some ignorant asshole who decided to chat me up and was too drunk to actually hold his liquor still. Don't worry about it, I can handle myself. Hi you must be Rian!"

Well that was all York needed as proof that Abbey had already drank. She must have had a shot of something after the guy encounter in the kitchen. She was going from angry to happy in a snap, usually it wasn't that fast.

"Um yeah, Robert this is my roommate Abbey, she actually went to Dulaney also. But a few years under us. Abs this is my best friend Rian."

Rian gave his megawatt smile, "nice to meet you finally Abbey. This one talks about you all the time!" He said as he pulled York closer and kissed the side of her head.

"Yeah same here, nice to meet you." York saw something sparkle in Abbey's eye that York noticed instantly. It was the sign that she was plotting something that she probably wasn't going to like.

But before York could ask, Alex suddenly popped up, smiling widely and swaying slightly. "So who's this girl you wanted to introduce me to?"

"Um Alex, this is Abbey. Abs, this is Alex, the guy I was telling you about."

Before anyone had time to reply, Abbey was tossing her drink into Alex's face and spinning on her heel and walking away. York shot Rian a worried look before she rushed off leaving the slightly confused boys alone to search for her roommate.

She found her two minutes later in the bathroom upstairs scowling at her reflection in the mirror. "Um, care to explain what just happened down there?"

Abbey met her eye through the mirror and sighed. "Well it turns out that Alex is the guy who so rudely dumped his drink on me and laughed afterward."

"Oh."

"Yeah, can we get out of here? I stink of vodka and want to go home."

York simply nodded and they left the bathroom to head to the door to go end the night with ice cream and How I Met Your Mother.
