I Caught Myself

The Perfect Way To Meet

I woke up to a brightly lit sunny day, the suns rays peering through my window awakening me from my long and peaceful sleep. I let my body stretch out its aches and pains as I glanced at my alarm clock realising I’d slept through most of the day, a nice way to begin summer. The house was filled with a blissful silence signalling I had the house to myself. Knowing it would be yet another lazy, uneventful day I reached for my phone. One new message read across the screen, it was one of my besties, Jess.

Hey, wanna hang today? I’m so bored =)

Perfect. Jess and I always found ways to entertain ourselves and have a good time.

Yeah sure. What were you thinking?

I began to raid my wardrobe and dress according to the beautiful weather outside. I was wise enough and Jess’ friend long enough to know once plans were made she would be right on time and ready to go which is why I had to begin organising myself. It seemed like I had only just hit the send button and put my phone down to choose an outfit for the day when my phone was buzzing already with a new message. God she is fast I thought. She’s had plenty experience at texting though, or should I say sexting? Jess messages her boyfriend, Ben, all the time; and when I say all the time I mean it. Jess and Ben are the sappy kind of couple that border cute but are kinda gross with the lovey dovey stuff and displays of public affection… I’ll never forget the times we’d be sitting in class, the lovebirds would be seated right next to each other-close enough to hear the others breathing, yet they still found an excuse to text each other. Whenever I asked Jess why they’d text all the time she’s simply gush his messages were adorable- I never got to see them though so I guess I had to take her word on it.

“Lunch? Then later we’ll hang with the boys at Ben’s by the pool? I think he’s planning a party for tonight! I’ll pick you up in 10, gotta get Iz first?”

I groaned. I am not the most decisive person you’ll meet, I take great care, time and thought with my outfits so when Jess mentions ‘party’ and ‘pick you up in 10’ I can’t help but immediately freak out. Ever since Jess has been with Ben she doesn’t care as much about appearance and Izzy, well she’s blessed with naturally stunning looks and a fine taste for fashion. Iz can pull off almost anything, she’s so natural and down to earth; she wears a confidence that every girl envies. Before I’d even met Isabelle I remember having jealousy written all over me, her long chocolate brown silky hair frames her delicate face with almost perfection and no one can deny her killer figure. Izzy’s eyes are amazing too, she has these mesmerizing and piercing hazel eyes that sparkle when she smiles. All the boys adore her; Isabelle is every boy’s type of girl because she has the whole package. What makes me admire Izzy even more is her sincerity, she could easily take advantage of her looks and popularity but she prefers to lay low and date goofy boys like her boyfriend Jack. Us girls first met Jack and his friends through Zack, being in a band throughout high school together, Izzy and Jack instantly clicked. In fact all of us clicked, we just didn’t have chemistry like Iz and Jack, but we became our own little gang of friends that hang out constantly now. I wouldn’t have it any other way though, there’s nothing I would trade in the world for my friends -as corny as it sounds- because we have so much fun and are so close it’s as if we’re a family.

I resumed to texting, my fingers racing across the keyboard on my phone replying to Jess at a frantic pace.

Sounds good. Cya soon
xo

By the time I was ready for lunch with the girls and had my stuff packed for the plans tonight I was puffing with exhaustion. It was a workout in itself searching for missing shoes and certain clothes amongst all the other crap in my room; I was sooo thankful my Mum wasn’t home or I would’ve been given the “I told you so” talk. Mum is always nagging me to clean my room for my own sake seen as I am guilty of having a floor-drobe; my wardrobe is empty while my clothes are permanent residents of my floor.

I glanced at my appearance one last time as I heard a car roll up towards my drive way, the sounds of Jess’ radio booming and the tooting of her car horn alerting me my ride was here.
