Chased by the Past
Finally, it happens (Alex POV)
The aisle seemed so long. My dad held his arm out for me as I arrived at his side, a bit out of breath from running here after styling myself and kissing Jack a bit more.
I smiled at my dad, happy that he was there to lead his gay son up the aisle. Wagner’s bridal chorus began and we started walking. There were surprisingly many people, of course both out families except for the old, stuck up aunts.
I looked forwards, Jack looked so perfect in his tuxedo and his eyes lit up when they met mine. I tried to focus on not tripping over my own feet and miraculously succeeded.
When my dad and I arrived at the front, he let go and whispered in my ear while kissing me on the cheek, “Hell yeah, marry the fuck out of Jack,” and I couldn’t help but grin. I turned around to Jack, feeling the familiar warmth around my heart and quietly said hi.
“Dear friends, dear families, we are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the unification of Jack Barakat and Alex Gaskarth in marriage.” I smiled at my beautiful groom.
After the reading, we were onto the vows. I was nervous, but I hoped it wasn’t too obvious. Just a few minutes separated me from being Jack’s husband.
“Do you, Jack Bassam Barakat, take Alexander William Gaskarth as your lawfully wedded husband, promising to love and cherish him through joy and through sorrow, health and sickness, until death do you part?”
I looked at Jack; he was smiling.
“I do.”
The priest turned to me. “Do you, Alexander William Gaskarth, take Jack Bassam Barakat as your lawfully wedded husband, promising to love and cherish him through joy and through sorrow, health and sickness, until death do you part?”
My heart almost burst with love as I answered. “I do.”
Jack picked up the ring, a delicate gold wedding band with each other’s name engraved, and slid it on my finger. He looked at me and I took his ring and gently put it on his ring finger.
The priest spoke again, saying the words I had been craving to hear, “You may now kiss.” I got close to Jack and pressed my lips on his. I could feel him smiling as we kissed, which is the best feeling in the entire world.
“By the power vested in me by the state of Maryland, I hereby declare you husbands, Mr and Mr Gaskarth.”
Everyone cheered, and I hugged Jack. We shook hands with the priest and slowly left the church, holding hands.
Outside there was a stretch limousine and we walked throught the people throwing rice at us. We got in the car and waved to the audience before we drove off, sheet with “Just Married” flying in the wind behind us.
“But Jack, where are we going for our honeymoon? Please tell me!”
