Skeleton In The Closet

Skeleton In The Closest

Alex loved Halloween. He was fascinated with the bone-chilling holiday for as long as he could remember. It was the candy, so bittersweet on a child's tongue as they snuck an extra piece when their parents weren't watching. It was the spooky villains and monsters lurking in the shadows, giving you an eerie shot of adrenaline every time you blinked. It was the costumes and the identity that came along with them, a new you for the day. That was why the day was so special to Alex, all that and more.

It was also the reason he walked in the Spirit Halloween store with a giant grin on his face.

He looked like a kid in a candy store as he gazed at the spider web and coffin decorations that lingered the entrance of the store. Fog tickled his legs as he walked further down, gazing down the many isles. 'Where do I even begin.' he thought to himself as his hazel eyes scanned each row.

He started with the makeup isle, exploring the different foundations and blushes elegantly mixed to create a beautifully frightening masterpiece. Alex's fingers wondered over the designs, his fingers memorizing every texture and dip of the displays.

"I'm sorry sir, but you can't touch those." a voice said behind him, causing the boy to jump slightly. He spun around and looked the employee over. The boy was tall and lanky, but not in such a way that he appeared shy and awkward. Messy black hair and a pair of equally dark glasses complimented his face as he smiled at Alex. He was attractive, and oddly familiar.

"S-sorry about that." Alex stuttered as he quickly removed his hand from the mannequin. The taller boy simply chuckled. "I'm just kidding with you man, anything I can help you with?" Alex swallowed his breath and slowly exhaled. "N-No thanks, I'm good for now." "Okay. My name's Jack, let me know if you need anything." He said, grin stretching from ear to ear.

The boy simply nodded as Jack walked away, smirking grin never leaving his face.

Alex mindlessly stared at whatever he happened to walk past in the store. There were so many wonderful things to explore, but his mind kept returning to the boy behind the counter. He looked so familiar but Alex couldn't recall knowing anyone named Jack, or anyone as attractive for that matter.

After 15 minutes of deciding which spider webs would look the best, and once his breathing was back to normal, he strolled up to the check out line and placed his items on the counter. Jack looked up from the costumes he was repacking and smiled. "Hey Alex, did you find everything okay?" He looked at Jack with confusion. He didn’t recall giving his name to the boy. "Umm, how do you know my name?" He asked. Jack grinned slightly and scanned his items. “You'll figure it out." He murmured, chuckle lingering in his voice.

Alex felt his eyebrow raise. So i have seen him before "I honestly have no clue." He admitted, trying to hold back a blush. “It’s no problem.” Jack said, waving it off. “I’m usually quiet anyways." Alex sighed and watched as he worked. He felt slightly guilty. It must have been a long time ago. He would have remembered someone like Jack...

“Listen,” Alex said as he handed Jack the money for his items. “I’m having this party at my house. It’s for Halloween and umm, you can come if you want to.” Jack got his change with a blank expression on his face, like he didn’t know how to react to such an invitation. He handed him his items and change. “My number’s on the receipt.” he said before giving Alex a wink and walking to the back room.

The neon lights spun in an unbalanced harmony as Alex's hazel eyes followed them. They were almost to a blur, but he could still make out some of the shapes. Heavy bass lines thumped in his ears to an almost unbearable point, but his pleasant buzz made him forget the pain. Once the memories came pouring in, the drinks fell just as easily. He wasn't too drunk; he could still make his usual assumptions on things. But his mind was what had gotten him to this position in the first place.

'What exactly was it?' he thought to himself. Something to do with a werewolf? Or maybe it was a zombie? Either way his head still spun and he jumped slightly as a hand grabbed his own, lifting him from his placement on the couch. He grunted slightly, but followed the person dressed in black without restrain. "Wh-here we goin-g?" he slurred. His vampire fangs had become loose, causing his voice to sound more drunk than his mind was. The person spun around, and Alex's eyes met a face with perfect costume makeup, and a flirtatious smirk.

Oh, that's what it was.

Jack wrapped his lanky arms around the elders waist, gently swaying him to the rhythm of the music. Alex laid his head on the boy's shoulder, not wanting to meet his eyes. He stared at his decor, impressed that he was able to come up with such a stunning portrait of Jack Skellington without the use of a costume package.

"You remember, don't you?" Jack's velvety voice whispered in his ear. Alex forced his eyes shut. "How could I forget?" He wondered it himself. How could he forget his best friend of three years? How could he forget the constant races and games shared on the playground? How could he forget the first person he fell in love with?

"I don't blame you, you know." Jack said, rubbing slight circles on Alex's hips. "It was a long time ago. Things have changed." The elder boy raised his head and rested his forehead against Jack's. "But not all things." he whispered, never breaking his intense eye contact. He could see the boy shiver at the contact of his breath on his skin. "What happened then?" He replied as his eyes fluttered shut. Alex wrapped his hands around the younger's neck. "I figured you had a Sally waiting for you."

Jack shook his head slightly. His lips to the right, to the left, grazing his cheek, his nose... "Vampires are more my type." he said for lack of a better line. Alex let out a slight chuckle and finally brought their lips together. He could feel the smile on Jack's lips at the contact as they both tightened their grips. It all came in a rush of ecstasy; the music, his lips, the memories, his hands. The feeling made his brain tingle with pleasure. Jack, Jack, Jack. Oh how could I forget Jack?.

Despite the rush, air was something they desperately needed and they separated with a gasp. Alex kept their foreheads together, as they regained their breath. He looked in to Jack's deep brown eyes and smiled, causing a blush to creep into his cheeks. The elder simply giggled in delight and reattached their lips once more. Ironic he thought. My very own skeleton in the closet..
