Memories That Fade Like Photographs.
My Song Has Not Been Sung
One day during winter break, Bailey and I were invited to an All Time Low practice. It was held in Alex's basement. They went through a few songs, then they paused.
They all turned around and discussed something amongst themselves. Rian, Zack, and Jack were shaking their heads enthusiastically, saying no to something Alex was proposing as Alex waved his arms to emphasize.
“What do you think’s going on?” Bailey asked.
“Alex probably wants to cover Papa Roach and the guys don’t.” I replied, smirking.
“Then I can just leave, I don’t give a shit!” Alex raised his voice. The boys sighed.
It appeared that Alex won the argument.
“This song....is dedicated to a straight-up hustler.” Alex said into his microphone, looking straight at me.
“What is he doing?” Bailey asked incredulously as the other guys all looked at me apologetically.
“I don’t know.” I whispered, but my heart sank when I heard the familiar guitar intro to The Girl’s a Straight-Up Hustler.
Him and Jack had written that song about Lisa, since she’d fucked them both over last year. Alex was a mess over it. But now it was being directed at me, but this time, I’d done nothing but show up to support my friends.
“She gets what she wants and she breaks what she gets. Get out while you can or she’ll tear you to pieces. Are you having a good time, sweetheart?” Zack sang, looking at me sadly.
I knew the other guys meant no offense to me, but it still hurt that Alex did. They packed up their stuff, deciding they were tired and wanted to watch movies or something.
After tossing his guitar on the extra couch, Alex walked over to me.
"Are you having a good time, sweetheart?" he chuckled. I turned and slapped him.
"How dare you!" I spat.
"What, can't handle a little ridicule, whore?" he laughed.
"You're a douche bag." I spat.
"Wow, that hurts." he mocked.
"I'm having a baby girl." I told him stiffly.
"Good for you." he replied.
"I can't handle it." I sighed.
"So? You had your chance to back out, but you didn't want to." he told me.
"She’ll be your daughter, too, you know." I pointed out.
"I don't see how that works out, considering we can't stand each other." he retorted.
"Then let's just stay away from each other for a while." I said.
"Good idea. See ya round." he smiled weakly. I nodded and walked away from him.
