Hush, Little Baby
Don't say a word
Matt rocks back and forth in the chair, his eyes sliding shut as he lets out a small sigh. “Hush, little baby, don't say a word, Papa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird,” he sings gently, humming along to the tune but not continuing as the toddler in his arm shifts around and leans her lips against his wrist. He peaks an eye open, lips growing gently as he tilts his head to the side, “And if that mockingbird don't sing, Papa’s gonna buy you a diamond ring.”
He leans down and kisses her forehead gently before leaning his cheek against her, careful not to make her stir in her sleep. She lets out a small yawn, hand reaching out to hook her fingers around his own, “And if that diamond ring turns brass, Papa’s gonna buy you a looking glass.” He closes his eyes once again, taking in the sweet scent of her shampoo and conditioner. She’s so sweet and adorable; how anyone could give up such a sweet little girl is beyond him. “And if that looking glass gets broke, well you'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.” He snuggles into her as he feels tears filling up behind his eyelids. She’s beautiful and perfect, she’s his little girl and no one will ever be able to take that away from him.
“Alex may not have wanted to raise you without Lisa,” he starts, “but I promise you Bethany, I will never let you down because you’re my perfect angel.” And nothing can ever change that. She’s his life now, “I’m your daddy, baby.”

I'm sorry to say but so far, this is a drabble that I wrote for Mibba over a year ago. Maybe I'll turn it into a full length story in the future, maybe.
