Break Out

Chapter Two

"Hey Blake, guess what."

Jack looked at me with unshielded anticipation to tell me 'what' and I rolled my eyes, praying we would make it to whoever’s house we were going to soon. I rested my head against the back of Alex's seat, groaning, while Jack watched me with a huge smile plastered across his face.

"What Jack?" I asked, my tone flat, but the guy didn't care. He leaned in slowly, making it so that his lips were right beside my ear, and looked at me while trying not to laugh.

"Boobies."

The moment the word burst from his mouth, he erupted into hysterics, flopping around beside me. He flailed his arms and began thrusting his hips into the air while Alex turned around in his seat to laugh at how moronic his best friend was.

"For Christ's sakes," I muttered and crossed my arms tightly over my chest, glaring out the window to my right. This was going to suck so much more than I'd expected. It was like the kid was on a permanent dose of caffeine. "Oh, c'mon, Blake, lighten up. Stop being so mature," Alex complained and I scoffed, shaking my head.

"Yeah sure, let me get right on that," I told him tersely and he rolled his eyes, returning his attention to Jack. I felt a poke on my shoulder and jumped in surprise, spinning around to find Zack leaning towards me from his seat in the back of the van beside Rian.

"You can probably crawl back here if you want," he said with a small, knowing smile and I glanced over at Jack one last time, who was now attempting to burp the alphabet, before unbuckling at lightning speed.

"Hell yeah," I grunted slinging my leg over the back cushion of the bench. Zack and Rian both chuckled and I threw myself between them, accidentally kicking Zack in a place that made him wince and let out a painful "shit".

"Sorry, my bad,"I giggled and Zack shot me the middle finger, causing me to laugh a little more.

Jack seemed to suddenly notice my disappearance and spun around with wide eyes, pouting at me.

"You left me."

Instead of saying anything, I simply put in my earbuds and ignored him until he eventually got caught up in a conversation with Flyzick, who was driving. Rian and Zack had a few conversations over me, sometimes asking me questions, but for the most part they left me alone and I could already tell who it was in this band that I would be spending the most of my time with.

Finally the van stopped outside a large, beautiful house and I stared at it in slight awe. Growing up, my family had next to nothing and I couldn’t believe that one of these guys could afford to get a house like this at such a young age.

“Well, Blake, this is you. Alex’s house is nicer and larger than any of ours so we figured it was the best place for you to stay. He also has an open guest room,” Matt said, turning around to look at me and I nodded, trying not to groan. Why couldn’t I live with Rian or Zack?

“Let’s go roomie, aren’t you excited?!” Alex asked hopping out of the front seat and I sighed while Rian looked at me sympathetically.

“Ecstatic,” I muttered. Alex had already gotten my bags from the back and that surprised me because of how fast he did it.

Before I knew it, Matt was pulling away from the curb, Jack yelling out the window to us, and I was left standing beside Alex Gaskarth all alone. He glanced at me out of the corner of his eye and picked up my luggage, smirking.
“You could at least pretend like you don’t completely hate this situation, ya know,” he said and I rolled my eyes.

“Thought I was,” I said and he chuckled.

“Well you might want to try a little harder, cuz it’s so not working,” he said amusedly and I shrugged, following him as he began walking to the front door of his house slash miniature mansion.

I looked around at the well pruned flowerbeds and short green grass, then at the beautiful house itself and shook my head.

“I thought you guys were just some loser wanna-be’s that rip off bands like Blink and Fall Out Boy, how the fuck did you afford this monster?” I asked him, looking at Alex with wide eyes and he threw his head back, letting out a bark of laugher. It took him a few moments to control himself but when he did, he looked over at me and winked.

“It’s because of my charming personality, impeccable good looks, and dick jokes. Lots and lots of dick jokes,” he told me with a grin and I couldn’t stop the small smile that slipped onto my face. He smiled even bigger at that and I looked away, quickly erasing it.

“Mhm, I saw that. Can’t take it back now,” he told me and I ignored him, waiting just at the end of the sidewalk so hopefully he’d unlock the door soon.

“You can go right in, Lisa’s home so the doors unlocked,” he told me, nodding his head to the front door and I raised my eyebrows in confusion.

“Lisa?” I asked and Alex nodded.

“My girlfriend. She has her own apartment but she watches the house while we’re on tour and tends to just stay over a lot,” he explained and I didn’t respond, just turned and walked into the home. I didn’t like the idea of living with a couple, much less Alex and his girlfriend.

The moment I stepped inside, a small, blonde haired girl came walking towards me from around the corner and I immediately disliked the way she was looking at me. Her eyes traveled from my Vans all the way to my head and I felt like I was about to be burned at the stake or something. Alex walked in right behind me then and the bitter expression on her face disappeared like somebody flipped a switch. I wrinkled my forehead while Alex wrapped an arm loosely around my shoulder and smiled at her.

“Babe, this is Blake. She’s the one that’s going to be helping us out for the next few months with this new record,” he told his girlfriend, who nodded with a bright smile that I could easily tell was fake. Slipping out from under Alex, I grabbed my bags from his hands and looked at him expectantly.

“Can you just show me to my room, I’m kinda tired,” I said and he shrugged, smiling - something I was thinking was just a permanent expression on his face.

“Sure. Lisa, do you mind grabbing Blake a water or something? I’m sure she could use a drink or maybe something to eat after her flight.”

Lisa quickly walked off down the hallway, glaring at me when Alex began heading in the opposite direction and I smacked my forehead with my palm. What the hell was her problem?

Alex quickly set me up in my new bedroom for the time being and I hurried both him and his girlfriend out the door. I honestly didn’t want to do anything but sleep right now and the moment they left that’s exactly what I did. I changed into comfortable clothes and climbed into the bed, curling up in the crisp black sheets.

It was about five hours later that I eventually woke up and I felt good, despite still being pissed off about where I was. We weren’t hitting the studio until tomorrow so that meant I could slum it the rest of the day, much to my excitement. I took out my contacts and grabbed my thick-framed glasses, fully intending on spending the rest of my afternoon reading and surfing the internet, until I realized that the only thing I needed to make it all perfect would be some Starbucks and a little bit of alcohol.

I reluctantly got out of bed, reminding myself I would be returning to it within the hour and slipped on some moccasins, grabbing my purse too. When I glanced in the mirror and realized how atrocious my hair was I added a beanie as well. I was hoping not to run into Lisa or Alex so I tip toed towards the direction I remembered Alex had led me from when I came and made it all the way to the door before I was snagged.

“Going somewhere, are we?” I heard Alex’s voice inquire from behind me and I spun around.

“Maybe,” I said and narrowed my eyes when I noticed him staring at my outfit, his gaze pausing on my dorky glasses and then my “I like Cats” t-shirt.

“Nice shirt. I prefer dogs though,” he said, the look in his eyes telling me he was just trying to bother me and I shook my head.

“Whatever. I have to go pick up some things, see you later. Or not,” I waved at him over my shoulder while swinging open the front door. I heard him chuckle as I left.

I began walking down the sidewalk until I realized I had absolutely no idea where I was going so I pulled out my IPhone and looked up the directions to the nearest Starbucks and liquor store, which just so happened to be right be each other.

I put in my ear buds as I walked, smiling as The Maine’s Pioneer filled my ears. It still filled me with pride every time I listened to it, those guys were a bunch of sweeties and knowing I had managed to help them release the music they wanted made me feel good. Going against your record label is a scary thing and their courage always impressed me. That was the best part about my job, I got to help create music that meant something, not just the pointless shit that was on the radio now a days.

I passed the liquor store first so I decided to go there before Starbucks. I checked my wallet for my fake ID while I pulled open the door, smiling when I spotted it just behind my driver’s license. Oh, the perks of having connections.

I browsed the aisles, bobbing my head to the music and occasionally dancing while ignoring the people who gave me amused looks. I was just about to grab a bottle of wine that I thought looked good when I felt someone wrap their arms around my stomach and I freaked out, spinning around with my hands up in fists.

“Woah! Woah! I just wanted to give my new best friend a hug!” Jack was grinning and holding his hands up in surrender, causing me to groan. What were the chances?

“What are you doing here?” I asked him, putting a hand on my hip and he raised an eyebrow.

“By the looks of it, the same thing you are. Although I’m guessing you must have a fake ID because you aren’t 21 yet, which is kinda sexy and totally awesome by the way, so I really think we should be the bestest friends ever. Oh, hey, is Alex here with you?” he asked suddenly and it took me a moment to process all the things he had just directed at me without pausing.

“Nope,” I answered finally, and turned back to the bottle I had originally been looking at. Jack remained behind me and I waited for whatever he was going to say next.

“So how did you get here then?” he asked in confusion and I sighed.

“I walked. Ya know, with those things called legs that I just so happened to be born with,” I said sarcastically and he chuckled under his breath. Why couldn’t these guys take my insults seriously?

“Oh right. Hey can I see that?” he asked randomly and I looked at him in question, slowly handing him the bottle of wine. He grabbed it from my hand and quickly put it back. I was just about to protest when he grabbed me and slung me over his shoulder. I screamed in surprise and Jack started laughing evilly, running down the aisle towards the door.

“JACK BARAKAT PUT ME THE FUCK DOWN!” I shouted as people in the store stopped to stare. Jack ignored me though and sprinted out into the parking lot.

“HAHAHAHAHA JACK LIKES KIDNAPPING LITTLE GIRLS NAMED BLAKE! HAHAHA.”

I banged on his back and tried to get him to let go of me but he held on tight and before I knew it, I was being thrown into the back of the familiar van I had driven in just a few hours ago.

I brushed the hair out of my face in anger and looked up, realizing I was sprawled out on an embarrassed looking Matt’s lap. This time Rian was driving and they all stared between Jack and I in shock.

“Jack, where the hell did you just get her from?” Matt asked after a moment and Jack leaned around the passenger seat to grin at him.

“In the store.”

“And why is she now on my lap?” he questioned, his face turning a brighter red and I couldn’t help but find it a little adorable.

“Because I am kidnapping her and you can’t put a hostage in the front seat, duh,” he said as if that was common knowledge and I huffed, deciding that I might as well give up. I collapsed backwards and groaned when my head landed on Zack’s rock solid thigh.

“Fuck, you’re hard Zack,” I complained, rubbing my head, and the rest of the guys immediately broke out laughing.

“Yeah, I’m sure he is,” Matt smirked and I punched his arm, feeling bad for the muscular guy above me who was now blushing.

“I didn’t mean it like that assholes,” I grumbled and crossed my arms. Zack patted my arm in understanding but I continued to glare at the ceiling and Jack pointed at me with a stern expression on his face.

“You better turn that frown upside down, missy! Because we are going to partayyyyyy!” He shouted and I covered my face with my hands.

So much for the perfect afternoon.
