I'll Always Be Yours, I Promise.

I'll Always Yours, I Promise.

Alex Gaskarth was 19 years old. He had a best friend named Jack Barakat that had been attached to his hip since the 8th grade. But, Alex wasn’t the most normal teenager. He did fine in school, got passing grades, and he had a girlfriend. But everything changed his Junior year. Something that would affect his life forever.

That was the year Alex had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, at age 17.

Jack stayed by Alex’s side every single day since. He moved in with the boy senior year, after Alex had gone into deep depression. He started having panic attacks every night after his girlfriend, Lisa, broke up with him. She said she couldn’t “Handle it” anymore.

Jack slept in a bed right now to Alex, to make sure he was okay during the night. Some nights, he would be woken up by Alex screaming his head off in his sleep. Jack would sit right next to the boy, and hold him in his arms. He would whisper to Alex and calm him down until he fell back to sleep. Jack started to stay up every single night with the older boy, not sleep at all. He was so stressed and worried about Alex, and how hard it was on him.
Alex started Chemo Therapy 2 months after his diagnoses. That was 11th grade. He would come home every day after his sessions, and he would be extremely nauseous. There wasn’t a day that he didn’t puke for about an hour. Jack started watching over Alex every day after school then.

But Alex and Jack were 19 years old now, and living with each other in an apartment. It was small, but they slept in the same room, so it didn’t really matter. At least they were together. Alex was still going to weekly chemo sessions, and Jack would drive him to, and from. He would hold Alex’s hand during, and rub his back to try and comfort him. Jack started getting very protective over Alex, and staying up every night to make him tea and run his hand through his thin hair until he slept. Jack started buying Alex a new beanie every week with his graduation money. He obviously wasn’t going to college, because Alex was more important than anything to him. Alex loved the beanies, and kissed his on the cheek every time he would present him a new one.

Jack started to fall for Alex. He always thought about how great their lives would be together in the future. He didn’t think about how much worse Alex was getting.

Alex was laying his bed, crying his eyes out. He was extremely fatigue, and felt like his skin was being seared off. Jack was at work, and Alex couldn’t even pick up the phone to call him. He looked over at the clock, and saw it was almost 4:00 pm, the time when Jack came home from his shift. Alex was screaming in pain, and he felt like he was dyeing. He continued this way, until it got way too much for him, and he blacked out.

Jack walked in the door, and called for Alex. No answer. He walked over to the living room, and Alex wasn’t there.

“Lex?” Jack wandered through the small apartment. He must he in the bedroom, Jack thought.

Jack traipsed over to the bedroom, and saw Alex laying on his side. He smiled a little, guessing he was sleeping. He walked over, and nudged his shoulder. Nothing. He tried again. “Cmon Lex. Wake up; we can go get dinner if you want.” Alex wasn’t moving. Jack started to panic. He called the hospital, and they told him to get Alex over there immediately.

Jack picked up Alex and ran over to get his keys, storming out of the door. He got the unconscious boy in to the passenger seat, buckling him in securely. Then, he hoped into his seat. He started the ignition, and drove off immediately. The hospital was 15 minutes away, but Jack got there in 5. He stormed into the front door with Alex over his shoulder. Nurses and other Doctors got him onto a stretcher, and ran him to the back, with Jack by this side. When they got to the room, Jack wasn’t allowed in.His eyes were wide with fear, and he was shaking like crazy. Alex’s personal doctor noticed him, and walked over.

“Jack.” He said.

“Yes that’s me…” Jack shot his eyes up to stare at the older man.

“Alex passed out, because he was having a reaction to the Chemo. It isn’t working, unfortunately. We are going to have to do an immediate Bone Marrow Transplant. Luckily, Alex matches with a donor of ours. He is going into surgery as we speak, Mr. Barakat.” The doctor said with a sigh.

“I-I didn’t even notice… I was at work a-and I got home, and he was just lying there… I was so scared.” Jacks eyes starting sting with tear, and they were building up over the rim. “Is he going to be okay?....Is he going to make it…” He let the tear spill over. He started sobbing and couldn’t control himself. He collapsed onto his knees, and he was basically screaming. He felt so hopeless. He was in love with Alex, and he didn’t even know if Alex was going to be okay. If Alex would even be alive tomorrow.

“We don’t know, Jack. All we can do is hope, and wait. You have to be strong.” The doctor held his hand out to help Jack up.

“I love him… He can’t die… Not yet please, he can’t leave me like this. Please.” The tears were still flowing hard from Jacks red and puffy eyes.

“I can’t promise anything, I’m very sorry. But you will be notified after Alex’s surgery.” The doctor rested his hand on Jacks shoulder, then walked away.

Jack was a wreck.
___________________________________________________________________________
“Sir?” A young lady came over to Jack, who was sitting in a chair next to the wall. It was 8pm.

“Is Alex okay?!” Jacks eyes widened and he stood up.

“The surgery went fairly well. Alex is still asleep, but he will wake up sometime soon. You are welcomed to stay the night in his room.” Jack was extremely relived.

“Thank you, so much. You have no idea.” He shook the woman’s hand, and she led him over to Alex’s room.

Stepping inside, Jack saw Alex, sleeping soundly. “I’ll leave you to it.” The nurse stated, before leaving the room and shutting the door. Jack traipsed over to the empty seat next to Alex. He took a seat, and let out a deep breath. At least Alex was okay.

Jack leant over and took a hold of the older boy’s hand. He was exhausted from all of the crying he had done, and took this as a chance to actually sleep for once. He grabbed a spare blanket from the back of the chair, and wrapped himself up in it. It was very cold in the room, and he noticed that Alex’s hands were very cold. He held onto the hand closest to his, and drifted to sleep. He just really hoped Alex would wake up soon.

Alex woke up in the morning, freezing cold. He noticed he wasn’t home. He was in fact, in a hospital room, and Jack was asleep next to him in a chair. His body was very sore, and he had a sharp pain in his spine. He called for a nurse, and the same young lady that spoke to Jack came into the room.

“Morning Alex. How are you feeling?” She questioned.

“Well, my back really hurts, and I don’t quite know why I am here…” It was true. Alex had no clue was happened. All he remembered was being in severe pain, and blacking out.

“You passed out at home, and Jack brought you here. The Chemo Therapy had a reaction to your body, and we noticed that it wasn’t working anymore. You were admitted for an immediate Bone Marrow Transplant. We are still doing some tests to see how your cancer is, and if it has spread anywhere else. Jack was very worried last night, and had a mental breakdown in the lobby. He seems to be sleeping still, so we will let him be. Do you need anything?” She explained.

“O-oh…uuum yes, I would like some water. And possibly pain killers? I’m very fatigue. And my spine hurts like a bitch.” Alex whined.

“I will go get you some water right now, and ill get your doctor to give you some painkillers. Will you be fine?” she questioned.

“Yes, I’ll be fine. I’ve got Jack with me.” Alex smiled slightly at the sleeping boy. “Thank you.”
“No problem. I’ll come back with your water.” The nurse left the room. Alex was shocked that all of that had happened. Jack saved his life basically. Alex couldn’t even imagine how scared he must have been.

It was another hour and a half, and Jack had started waking up. Alex was resting his head on the pillow, until he heard a small shuffle and a weak yawn.

“Jack!” Alex practically screamed with enthusiasm. He leant over to grab the other boy, and yanked him over to the bed.

“Lex” Jack said tiredly. “I was so worried last night. Are you okay?”

“I heard. I’m fine, yeah. My back just hurts a bit. But they got me some Painkillers, so I’m feeling better. Are you okay?” Alex questioned Jack. He knew what he was really asking him.
“Yeah, I’m better now that you’re awake.” Jack smiled, leant over and kissed Alex’s forehead. Alex blushed and sat back into his pillow.

“When can I go home? Did the doctors say anything?”

“They said that they were doing some more tests to check in on the cancer, to see if it spread, or if it’s gone, ect.” Jack desperately hoped for the last one.

“Oh.” Alex sighed.

“On the Brightside, I brought you something.” Jack pulled something small from his pocket. He had brought Alex’s favorite beanie. When the older boy saw it, his face lit up.

“Awh Jack! Thank you for bringing it.” Alex took the beanie, and set it on his head. It made him feel more confident, since his hair was thinning every day. Jack smiled, and stood up to hug the boy. They embraced each other for about 10 seconds, and Jack went to pull away. But Alex had a different plan. He cupped Jacks cheeks in his palms, and pressed their lips together. He felt a sensation in his stomach, and Jacks heart was pumping out of his ribcage. This was the first kiss they ever shared, other than on their cheeks. They moved their lips in sync together, Then pulled away, and Jack sat back down.

“uum…Thank you, again.” Alex giggled.

“No problem, Lex.” Jacks face was completely red.
_________________________________________________________________________
They ended up releasing Alex from the hospital a week later. Jack, as always, never left his side. He just had his sister, May, bring him clothes and deodorant. Alex and Jack were talking to his doctor for the last time before they left the hospital.

“Well, Alex, I have some great news for you too.” The doctor said with a grin.

“Yes?” Alex wondered what he was talking about.

“Well, we ran some tests with a sample of your blood and marrow, and they came back about an hour ago.”

“What did they say?” Jack popped up from behind Alex. He was getting excited, it was good news, as he informed.

“Well, we received the test, and it turns out, that the surgery worked. You are now cancer free. Congratulations, Alex.” The doctor smiled widely, and held his hand out to shake Alexs and Jacks.

“OH MY GOD!! IM SO HAPPY!” Jack was hopping around and tearing up with happiness. He ran over to Alex and kissed his hard.

Alex just stood there after Jack pulled away. It was all over… He didn’t have to go through Chemo anymore, or go to hospital visits, or any of that. It was over. He was quite shocked.

“Wow. Thank you, so much. Oh my god… This is so different. Thank you!” Alex finally spoke. He was stuttering, because he was basically screaming with excitement on the inside.

He was going to be okay.

Alex and Jack made their way back home, and called everyone and told them the news. Alex’s mother and father of course cried, as did Jack’s parents. Everything was changing, and it would all be different from now on.

That night, Jack asked Alex to be his boyfriend. Alex of course said yes, because he was in love with the boy. They held onto each other that entire night. Jack turned on music, and held his hand out for Alex. The boy stood up, and wrapped his arms around Jacks neck. They slowly started to move around, and dance together. Alex would always remember this moment. He decided it was one of his favorite with Jack. Dancing together after he was free from cancer. He rested his head in the croak of Jacks neck, as they moved side to side. He started to tear up slightly.

“Are you okay, Lex?” Jack was worried.

“Yes. Im just really, really happy. And I love you so, so much.” That was the first time Alex told Jack he loved him. He had wanted to for over 4 years.

“I love you too, Lex. So much.”
________________________________________________________________________
Jack and Alex had been living normal lives for 8 months after that. They were still together, And Jack had actually proposed to Alex. He brought him to this little meadow of flowers, and took his hands. He got down on one knee, and Alex started to squeal with excitement. He knew what Jack was doing.

“Alexander William Gaskarth, We met 6 years ago in the 8th grade. You were my best friend from the beginning. You mean the absolute world to me, and nothing would make me happier than having you here with me for the rest of my being. You are the most handsome boy I’ve ever layed my eyes on, and I love you with all of my heart. You make me so happy, and I would make you the happiest boy alive if you would marry me.” Jack pulled a little box from his pocket, and held it out to Alex. “Alex, Will you marry me?”

Alex was tearing up and pulled Jack to his level to hiss him hard. He wrapped his arms around his neck to deepen the kiss. “Yes! Jack of course I’ll marry you!” Alex kissed him again. “I love you so much babe.” And another kiss. Jack pulled away, and took the little ring out of the box. Engraved on the inner side, it read “Alex and Jack.” He placed the ring on the boy’s finger, and moved forward to attach their lips again. This was the best day of Alex’s life.

They went back home, and made love that night. They were so utterly in love, and wouldn’t ever loose each other. As they hoped.
___________________________________________________________________________
5 months later, Alex was feeling funny again. He started getting nauseous, and very fatigued again. He couldn’t be pregnant, because he was obviously a male. He laughed at himself for that thought. Alex called Jack from at work, and told him to get home soon. He wanted to go check out what was wrong.

At 4pm, Jack entered the house, and walked over to the couch where Alex was at. The boy stood up and kissed his fiancée, and embraced his tightly.

“Are you alright, Lex?” Jack wondered.

“Im just feeling a bit off. Are you ready to go?”

“Yes, let me just go get a jacket.” Jack walked back over to their bedroom, and grabbed his jacket. Alex let out a deep breath, and tried to calm himself down. He was getting anxious, because what could be wrong with him?

Jack grabbed his keys off the counter, and gestured Alex to the door. “Everything will be okay, alright babe?” Jack tried to lighten him up. “Hopefully.”

Jack and Alex went out to the car, and started their way to the hospital.

Entering through the front door, they greeted the men kindly. Alex signed in, and waited for his name to be called. Jack and him sat down together, and grasped each other’s hand.
“Youre going to be fine Lex. Just, try and calm down. How bad can it be?” Jack tried calming Alex down, but it didn’t work very well. It could be very bad. Alex didn’t want to think about it…

About 15 minutes later, Alexs name was called, and they were greeted by a young nurse. They walked through the halls of the hospital, and were seated in a room.

“The doctor will be here in a couple of minutes, so be free to just talk until he arrives.”

“Thank you.” Alex said, as the nurse left the room.

“Is it your original doctor?” Jack wondered.

“I think so. He is my doctor for most things, so I wouldn’t be surprised.”

The two boys sat and spoke for about 5 minutes, before the door opened, and someone peeked their head in. It was Alex’s original doctor, and he smiled at him.

“Hey doc. Nice to see you again.” Alex said as he waved.

“Hello Alex,” He then looked at Jack “Jack.” He nodded with a smile.

“So, tell me whats been going on. How have you been feeling?” The doctor asked.

“Well, to start it off, be and Jack got engaged 5 months ago.” Alex smiled widely at that.

“Oh congratulations, you too!” He said, enthusiastically.

“Thank you very much.” Jack responded.

“Anyways,” Alex started off, clearing his throat, “I have been feeling a bit funny lately. I’ve been nauseous a lot, and very fatigued. I haven’t been sleeping very well, either. Its been going on for about 2 weeks maybe.” Alex finished with a deep breath.

“Hmmmm… Do you mind if we take a blood test to check for anything? Do you have allergies? Been eating fine?”

“Yes, that it fine. I don’t have allergies, and I’ve been eating the same since the last time I saw you.” The doctor scribbled something down on his page. After a small pause, he spoke up again.

“Alright… well, I’m going to go and get equipment to take some of your blood, then we will send that in for a little test. I’ll be right back.” The doctor got up, and left the room.

Alex was bouncing his knee with nervousness, and Jack grabbed onto his hand. “It could be just allergies, or a cold Lex.” Jack whispered, and leant down to hiss his fiancées forehead.
“I don’t know Jack… I don’t know.”

The doctor wrapped Alex’s arm, and inserted the needle. He was used to getting pricked in the arm all the time; so it didn’t hurt one bit. The tube filled with blood, and the doctor removed the needle, adding a band aid to Alex’s arm.

“Ill be right back, im going to send this over to get it tested really quick, and we should have a result in about a half hour.”

“Alright. Thank you.” Alex clutched Jacks hand tightly. What if something really bad was wrong? What if…no. He didn’t want to think about that…

Alex had to admit, He was really nervous. And Jack was starting to panic a bit.
30 minutes passed, and the doctor came back into the room with a paper, and a kind of uneasy look.

“Is everything alright? Is Alex alright?” Jack stood up, worry spreading over his features.

“Well, the results came back. They aren’t very good, Alex.” The doctors face fell.

“Go on.” Alex spoke up, trying to stay calm. He took a huge gulp.

“Alex, Your cancer came back.”
___________________________________________________________________
Alex spend 5 days in his bed. He didn’t move one bit. He didn’t eat, drink or shower. He couldn’t do anything. Jack tried to get his to eat or drank, but he just could not physically do it.

His cancer was back. It was worse than before. Jack had asked if they could do another transplant, and they just informed that it wouldn’t change anything. It spread to his blood, and it wasn’t going to be easy to get rid of again. It wasn’t able to get rid of.

Alex didn’t respond to Chemo, so that wouldn’t work. All it did was cause Alex to be ill, and hurt. Jack didn’t want to see that. But, Jack definantly couldn’t let Alex…Go…Not yet. He was only 20 years old… He was too young. He couldn’t leave. Maybe he could pull through, or they could do something… Jack was hopeless.

“Lex, you need to eat.” Jack said softly to the older boy, rubbing his palms up his arms. He was really worried about him. He was becoming significantly skinnier, and paler, and had shadows around his eyes.

“No…” Alex whispered. “I can’t. I don’t want to.”

“Why not… you have too. You’re becoming way to skinny.”

“Why does it matter?” Alex whined.

“Because. I’m not going to let you starve Lex.” Jack responded.

“Im not eating.” Alex stated.

“But you have too, please just eat something.”

Alex turned to face the boy, who was sitting on the side of the bed.
“I’m dying Jack. There is so reason to eat.”

Jack looked at him with stern eyes and cupped his cheeks. “Don’t say that. You’re not dying and you need to eat, now.”

“Don’t pull that card with me Jack. I’m dying. Just admit it.” Alex sighed.

“No! I’m not letting you! You can’t do this. Stop saying that.” Jacks voice got a little louder as he stood. Alex snapped at him.

“Jack! Don’t you fucking see! IM DYING! Look at me. You can already see the life draining from me.” Alex’s eyes started to fill with tears, as Jacks were already pouring down his cheeks.

“S-stop Alex… Please. Don’t let yourself go… You have to stay strong. For me.” Jack got words out of his sob.

“Please just go J-jack… I-I want to be alone…” Alex’s eyes were red and puffy.

“I’m not leaving you. Scoot over.” Alex did as he was told, and Jack draped his arm around the other boys. “I love you, so much.” Jack whispered in Alex’s hair. His tears soaking each strand. They fell asleep like that, tangled up with each other. That was the only way they could sleep comfortably.

Wrapped up in each other’s arms.
_________________________________________________________________________
That morning, They got a call from the hospital. Jack answered first, then handed the phone to Alex.

“Hello…?” Alex was a bit hesitant.

“Hi Alex. It’s your doctor. I just want to inform you, that there isn’t much we can do anymore. Chemo isn’t an option, and another surgery wouldn’t do anything. We are just going to have to wait it out.” Alex’s stomach dropped. He stepped out of the room, so Jack didn’t have to hear the conversation.

“H-how long… how long do I have…?” Alex started to cough and wiped his red eyes.

“We don’t know, Alex. Maybe…6 months? It could be weeks for all we know.” The doctor sighed. Alex fell to his knees.

He had 6 months to live.
________________________________________________________________________
Alex spoke to Jack about the phone call. And Jack of course, cried for hours on end. He had 6 more months with the love of his life. He didn’t know what to do. He felt like his life was over. But, his wasn’t. Alex’s was. Or, it was leading to that. Jack couldn’t breathe, and he ended up falling asleep on the sofa, curled into Alex’s side, after crying for at least 8 hours.
He woke up in the morning, with an idea. He was going to make these last six months as special as possible.

Him and Alex were going to get married.

“Lex… I have an idea.” Jack started off.

“What is it babe?” Alex said, a little weak.

“I think, that we should have our wedding.” Jack looked up at Alex through his eyelashes. Alex smiled widely and put his hands up to his mouth.

“I would love that.” Alex kissed Jack deeply, and hugged with all of his power. Jack had noticed Alex getting a lot weaker, and skinnier. It worried him more than anything. But Alex was still just as beautiful to him as he was when they first met. He always would be.

The past couple months were really, really hard. And Jack wanted to make Alex feel alive. He was going to marry the boy.
___________________________________________________________________________
Jack had called up all of his side of the family, and Alex’s also, about a week ago. The wedding was set for the following week.

Alex had 4 more months. Jack and Alex made love almost every night, and cuddled each other all day long. Alex loved Jack with all of his heart, and vice versa. Jack was struggling with the fact he wouldn’t have Alex in about 4 months. I think anyone would struggle with that, but it was far worse for Jack. He didn’t want to believe the fact that he wouldn’t have the love of his life near his side anymore. It honestly scared the living shit out of him. But he had to stay strong. He didn’t want Alex to see how truly hurt he was, but Alex saw it anyways. He heard Jack crying in the restroom the other day. He stayed in there for about an hour, with the water running, just sobbing. Alex didn’t want to interrupt him, so he let him be. But when Jack emerged from the restroom, Alex took his hand and nuzzled his nose into Jacks neck. He knew that Jack couldn’t handle the fact that he was slowly dying every day. Alex could barely handle it, either.
___________________________________________________________________________
One week later, it was Jack and Alex’s wedding day.

Jack was fixing his tie in the mirror when he saw Alex trying to finger out which hat he wanted to wear. His hair was dull and lifeless, and he was unbelievably skinny and pale. But he was so beautiful; he seemed to be glowing today. Jack couldn’t blame him. It was their wedding day. Jack walked up behind the older boy, and wrapped his hands around his hips.
“Wear the grey one. It’s your favorite, and my favorite too. You look very handsome.” Alex turned around to face Jack, and wrap his arms around his neck.

“I love you, Jack.”

“I love you, so much Lex.”

“Are you ready to go? I just need to brush my teeth, and then I’ll go out to the car.” Alex stated. They were going to Jacks parents’ house for the ceremony outside. They thought it would feel very homey, and everyone would be there.

“I’m more than ready.”

The boys arrived at Jacks parents’ house, and stepped inside. They were greeted by a bunch of family members, and everyone congratulated, and hugged the two. Especially Alex. They told him how proud they were in him, and that they were glad that he had Jack. Alex ended up getting very emotional, and dragged Jack into the restroom with him. He was trying to calm down and breath, but he ended up crying.

“It’s okay Alex.” Jack rubbed his fiancées lower back. Alex turned around and draped his arms around Jack.

“I’m s-so scared J-jack… I don’t want to die.” With those words, Jack broke down and let himself go. Tears spilled out of his eyes, and dripped down his cheek, and off his chin. He was just realizing that Alex was leaving. Alex was dying, and there was nothing he could do about it. Absolutely nothing. He felt like he was going to throw up, when he collapsed into Alex’s arms, and fell to the floor. He sat up against the wall with his face in his knees.

“I’m going to miss you so bad Lex. I don’t want you to go…” Alex sat next to Jack and put his head on his shoulder. “I don’t want to go either. I don’t know what ill do without you.”

“Wait for me, please.”

“I promise Jack. I promise I will.”

There was a knock at the restroom door, and it kind of shocked Jack. He stood up, walked over and opened the door. It was May, telling him that the ceremony was starting. Jack nodded to her, and walked over to help Alex up.

“Are you ready?” Jack asked.

“I’ve been ready for 4 years, Jack.” Alex leant over and kissed him.

They traipsed outside, and everyone saw them and smiled. They walked up to, and held hands with each other.

“Jack, do you take Alex’s hand in marriage and in health, till death do you part?”

“I do.”

“Alex, do you take Jacks hand in marriage and in health, till death do you part?”

“I do.” Alex smiled at Jack with teary eyes.

“Exchange the rings.”

Jack took Alex’s hand in his own, and slid the wedding finger onto his. Alex mimicked the motion, and they stood there smiling widely at each other.

“You may kiss the groom.”

Jack leant down, grabbing Alex’s chin, and tilting his head up. He leant down, and connected their lips. It was a small kiss, but when Jack whispered, “I’ll never take this ring off no matter what. I will always be yours, Alex. I love you.” Against Alex’s lips, he decided that it was the sweetest kiss they’ve ever shared. “I love you so much. I’ll stay here forever.”
_________________________________________________________________________
Alex replayed the moment over and over again in his head while he layed in his hospital bed. That was 4 months ago. The best day of his life. Alex was in the hospital, with Jack by his side. They had been crying for the past 2 days, non-stop. This could be Alex’s last chance of breathing in air, of eating food, of speaking. Of being with Jack.

His doctors checked in him every hour. He knew that today was the day. He just had a feeling in his gut. He wouldn’t let go of Jacks hand, and the younger boy wouldn’t leave his side.

“Hey Jack…” Alex spoke up, weakly.

“Yeah babe?”

“I really love you. I love you more than anyone on the world. You mean the world to me, I’m so sorry that I have to leave you. But you need to be strong Jacky, for me. I’ll wait for you up there, I promise. Please, don’t forget about me. You’re my best friend. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me. Ill never forget about you, I promise you that. You mean too much to me.” Alex was crying and shaking as he held Jacks hand. Hot tears streaming down Jacks cheeks, and his lips quivering.

“I’ll never forget about you Lex. I promise with my heart, I’ll never take off this ring. I could never love someone as much as I love you. I’ll miss you so bad…” Jack could barely speak anymore. Alex cupped his palms around his lovers cheeks.

“I love you.” He whispered against his lips.

“I love you so much. Please, hang on for a little bit longer.” Jack tried to speak out from his sob, but it was all mumbled. He leant forward and ran his hand down Alex’s cheek. He pulled the other boy into his lips, and Alex used the rest of his power to kiss back.

“Ill m-miss you. P-please wait for m-me. L-lex. I love you.” Jack whispered against his lips.
“I promise I will. Ill miss you more than you think. I love you. Thank you Jack, For everything. Don’t forget me.” They attached their lips again. Jack held onto Alex’s hand the rest of that night. He refused to let go until he absolutely had to.
________________________________________________________________________
Alex passed away at 10:17 pm. His hand went limp from Jacks, and the monitor went flat.
Jack was screaming in sobs, he layed on the floor and couldn’t get up. He refused to move. His body was shaking more than anything, and his couldn’t even breath. He couldn’t stop screaming Alex’s name. He couldn’t get himself to believe that he was gone. He was actually gone.

The tears didn’t stop for 8 months after that. The day Jack didn’t cry was the day he never got out of bed. He just layed there and didn’t move. He didn’t have motivation anymore. His didn’t speak to anyone, but his sister, May. She came over and spent the nights sometimes. Jack lived in Alex’s hoodie. It smelt just like him, and he refused to wash it, because he didn’t want to lose the scent. He slept with a picture that Alex and him took sophomore year, when Alex was healthy and smiling. Jack loved that picture.
_________________________________________________________________________
2 years after Alex’s death, it was his anniversary. Jack went to the same place every year. The meadow where he proposed.

Jack traipsed out to the spot, and sat down in the flowers. He brought along a picture of Alex, and stared up at the sky. A tear slipped out of his eye, and he didn’t bother to wipe it away. He just spoke.

“I told you I’d never forget, Alex. I’ll always be yours, I promise. I love you.”

Then jack looked down at his wedding ring, and kissed it.

“I miss you, Lex.”

It had started to rain, and Jack knew Alex was listening. Jack just held his picture in his hand, and lifted it up to his lips.

“I’ll always be yours, I promise.”
