Chapter 16: Kiss Me Again
After a wonderful Halloween, November came with a fresh powdery snow decorating the town. Luna decided to have the whole group over at her house to hang out one day, her parents out for the whole evening. We were watching something on TV when it suddenly switched off, and my best friend formed a devilish grin on her face.
“We’re gonna play Truth or Dare,” she declared.
“Oh no we’re not,” I protested.
“My house, my rules. and we’re playing. You all have to participate too,” she answered. She was planning something, and I knew she had to be.
We all sat on her living room floor in a circle crosslegged and waited for her to speak. After all, she had declared that she was going first. Jack bounced excitedly next to me. “Come on! Who are you going to ask?”
Luna looked over all of us carefully. “Alright, chill. Zack, Truth or Dare?”
The quietest member of our group looked surprised that he was picked first. “Oh, uh...Truth...I guess.”
“Do you take steroids?” she grinned.
An uproar of laughter sounded between us, and Zack just shook his head. “Hell no. That shit will make your dick small.”
“Fair enough. Your turn to ask somebody,” she replied.
Zack gazed around the circle. “Alex, Truth or Dare?”
“Dare, for sure.” Alex said.
“I dare you to...Lick Rian’s face,” Zack challenged. It was kind of a lame dare, but at least it wasn’t too humiliating.
Alex rolled his eyes, leaned over, and dragged his tongue across Rian’s cheek. “See? Easy.”
“Your turn,” Luna said, exchanging a mischievous glance with her boyfriend. They were clearly working together.
His eyes darted right to me. “Nora, Truth or Dare?”
“Truth. You guys know I’m a wimp,” I commented.
“Have you ever thought about kissing Jack?” he asked quickly.
I felt my cheeks redden almost immediately. What were he and Luna really trying to do? I knew they wanted Jack and I to get together, but this was a little over board.
“Well, we have kissed before, so kinda,” Jack cut in.
I hit the skunk haired boy in the shoulder. “Jack, for fuck’s sake!”
Luna’s eyes widened. “What the hell? When was this?”
I hid my face in my hands. “That first day you guys all came over to my house, and Jack stayed over to study. I told him why I never play Truth or Dare and that I’ve never been kissed by a guy, so he offered. It wasn’t anything huge.”
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me,” Luna said, sounding a little hurt.
“I’m sorry,” I replied. “I just didn’t even know where to begin.”
“Nora, it’s your turn,” Rian commented.
“Somebody else can take my turn for me. I’m not good at coming up with shit,” I mentioned.
“Fine, I’ll take this too,” Alex said. “Jack, Truth or Dare?”
“Dude, you know I always pick dare,” Jack responded.
Another grin from Alex. “Well, since you and Nora are so experienced with kissing each other, I dare you to make out with her in the closet for 7 minutes.”
This time, it was Jack who turned red. “That’s just like playing 7 minutes in Heaven.”
“You have to take the dare dude,” Alex mentioned.
“Whoa whoa whoa,” I said. “Don’t I have to consent to this too?”
“Nope. That’s what you get for not telling me shit,” Luna decided, sticking her tongue out at me.
Before I could say anything, Jack and I were shoved into a dark closet full of winter coats. “Ugh, this is why I hate this game,” I groaned.
“Yeah, this is stupid,” Jack stuttered. I think he was still blushing at this point.
“We aren’t gonna start the timer until you two stop talking,” Luna said from the other side of the door.
I sighed. “Should we just get it over with?”
“Yeah, I guess.” he said.
My heart pounded as we leaned closer and closer until our lips finally touched. An electric shock went through me as I matched my lips to his easily. His hand wound its way into my hair, shoving our faces together even more, which I didn’t even think was possible. For a whole 7 minutes, Jack and I just got lost in each other. As much as I wanted to curse out our friends for forcing us into such a situation, I also kinda wanted to thank them at the same time.
“Time’s up!” Alex shouted.
Jack and I pulled away, panting from lack of breathing. The closet door opened and Jack rushed out as I walked out, a little dazed. Jack quickly grabbed his jacket and slipped on his shoes, not even daring to look in my direction. “Okay, I gotta go. Bye guys. See you at school.”
The door slammed behind him and I turned to my friends, ready to scream at them. After all, it had seemed like they ruined my friendship with Jack. I found them all laughing on the floor, clutching their sides.
“What the hell is so funny?” I questioned, placing my hands on my hips.
“Oh my god, Nora, didn’t you see?” Luna giggled.
“See what?” I demanded.
Alex sputtered, trying to catch his breath. “Jack...he...he had a boner.”
I blushed again. That had to be because of me. “Oh my god.”
Luna placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “I don’t think that ruined your friendship. Besides, at least you know he is attracted to you.”
That was true I guess, but didn’t teenage boys get turned on easily? I didn’t know because they didn’t teach us that in health. Even then, there was only one thought in my head: I wanna do that again.
