“So, I think that your project is just about ready for submission. Bring it with you on Monday and I‘ll get it bound for you. Do you want to move on and do some practical work?” Jack asked as he handed my music project back to me. After months of work, I was finally finished with my project and I’d never have to look at it again.

Jack and I had managed to slip into a good routine for our tutoring sessions. Jack’s favourite phrase had now become ‘work first, and then fun’. It was the only way that both of us would get some work done. So, for every tutoring session we had, we did a minimum of two hours study and then the rest of the evening was ours to do what we wanted. This became especially important for our Friday sessions because after a long week of school and work, there was nothing that the two of us wanted to do more than spend the entire evening cuddling on the couch.

“What kind of practical work did you have in mind, Jack?” I asked, trying to be innocent about everything even though my thoughts were far from innocent.

Jack smirked at me and for a second, I thought that I may have gotten my way and that we were going to cut our session short for ‘us’ time.

“Not the kind of practical work that you have in mind, that‘s for sure. Nice try though, babe,” Jack smiled. “You know full well that I‘m on about the type where you do another thing with your lips. It involves you and your guitar while I get to sit back and listen to your sweet little voice.”

I knew that it was better to get this over and done with so I reached for my acoustic guitar and began warming my fingers up by playing random chord sequences. Then, I cleared my throat and began playing the opening chords to ‘Miss You’ by Blink 182.

I loved this song and I loved playing it. It had made perfect sense to me to play it for my practical which was only a matter of days away. I had to do a total of eight pieces and I was doing a mixture of vocal, guitar and piano. The majority of my pieces were original compositions and I knew that would win over my examiners straight away. They always loved originals and it would be even better for me because instead of them having plenty of time to quiz me about the pieces that I’d chosen and the different techniques involved in playing it, I knew that they would be more interested in hearing the story behind my pieces and why I chose them. Jack had asked me every possible question that they could ask and I had answers prepared for every single one of them.

Once I had finished singing ‘Miss You’, I moved onto singing my final three guitar pieces; Therapy, Remembering Sunday and Six Feet Under The Stars.

Jack loved those three pieces and he had been the one who’d encouraged me to choose them. I had been lucky enough to escape performing them in front of my class, until now. That was going to change though because Jack was in the process of making everyone do a full run through of their performances and I was due up on Monday afternoon.

Jack clapped and leaned forward to place a kiss on my forehead once I’d finished my pieces.

“You were amazing as per usual, Lex,” he commented. “You are going to knock those examiners off of their feet.”

“Right you two, Cass and I are heading out now,” Matt announced as he stuck his head into the kitchen where Jack and I were in the middle of making dinner. “Try not to do anything that I wouldn‘t do and keep it safe, kids.”

Matt chuckled and ducked out of the kitchen as Jack flipped him off. “Come on, Cass. Let’s give these two lovebirds some privacy.”

“I know that he‘s my best friend and all but sometimes, I don‘t half want to strangle the man. Kids, really? He does realise that just because he‘s a year older than me, that he can‘t call me a kid, right?”

“Jack, this is Matt that we’re talking about. He’s only kidding,” I reminded him, moving from the sink to stand in front of Jack. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him. “Plus, the last time I checked, Matt was one hundred percent straight and if we were to listen to him, we wouldn‘t be able to do this.”

I caught his lips in a kiss as one arm wrapped around his neck and the other became tangled in his hair. Our kiss became more heated as Jack’s tongue entered my mouth and he backed me up against the kitchen table. If I had a choice, I’d spend all of my time kissing Jack. It was one of my favourite things to do. Things were becoming very heated as I pulled my lips from Jack’s and began kissing his neck. I knew it was something that he loved.

Unfortunately, our make-out session was interrupted by Bella crying as she awoke from her nap. Jack and I pulled apart. Both of us were breathless and our faces were flushed red.

“I’ll go and get her, babe,” I offered, kissing his cheek as I walked out of the room. Bella was sitting up in her cot, clutching onto her teddy when I went in to get her. Bella was now ten months old, which meant that Jack and I had been together around six months now. She was getting so big. Bella recognised and smiled up at me as she held her arms up to be lifted out of her cot.

“Hey Bellabear,” I smiled, lifting her up in front of me and blowing raspberries on her belly. Her diaper felt wet, so I lay her on Jack’s bed and changed her. “Now that you are nice and clean, let‘s take you down to Daddy.”

Jack had come to the decision that since he was now Bella’s legal guardian, he was just going to bring her up as his own daughter and tell her the truth when she was old enough to know it. He knew that it was what his brother and his wife would have wanted, and it was going to be the best for everyone in the long run. It also saved people who didn’t need to know the real truth, asking awkward questions. I didn’t need to go far to find Jack, as I found him leaning up against the doorframe, watching us.

“You’re so good with her,” he commented, placing a kiss on my cheek and then placing one on Bella’s. “She really likes you. Thanks for changing her. Dinner‘s just about ready.”

“What did you think, the first time that you saw me?” Jack randomly asked later on that night as we lay in bed. We had spent the evening watching a DVD and we’d then moved into Jack’s room. However, neither of us was tired.

I thought back to that first day when I’d been sitting outside the Principal’s office on my first day back. It had been weird returning to school after my mom’s death but it was what needed to be done. I needed to get out of the house. All of a sudden, I’d heard Annie making a big deal when someone walked into the office and that was when I saw him.

“Well, my first thought was who was Annie making such a huge fuss over? I‘d never seen her as excited about anybody before. At first, I thought that you were just an ex-pupil who‘d come back to see the school. Then, when Annie mentioned how she‘d never thought you‘d return as a teacher, I thought that you were too good looking to be a teacher. You weren‘t what I expected a teacher to be at all. I was a bit nervous when I found out that I had you for English and Music because I didn‘t want to spend the whole year crushing on my teacher. You were so nice to me on my first day and I had to try and stop myself from thinking that you were cute because I was certain that I was only a student that you had no choice in helping. Oh, and I was full on sure that you were straight. Now, it‘s your turn.”

Jack laughed at my comment about him being straight and I could feel the vibrations of it from where I had my head rested on his chest.

“Where do I begin?” He wondered out loud. “If I‘m honest, I was so checking you out from the moment that I walked into the room. If Annie hadn‘t stopped me, I would have probably came and sat right beside you out of habit. I was so used to being sent to the principal‘s office that it felt like second nature to go sit and wait. I thought that you were really cute and you seemed really shy. You were just sitting there, playing with your hands. You looked as if you had something on your mind. All I could see of you at first was your hair but I could already guess a lot about you. I guessed that you were about eighteen. Then when she asked you if you wanted a sweet and you looked up to answer her, I got a proper look at your face. I had no idea why I had to go and see the principal and I automatically assumed that it was just to warn me about some students‘ behaviour. When he said that we were here about you, I thought that surely someone as shy and timid looking as you couldn‘t possibly be a troublemaker. I soon learned how wrong I was about the shy and timid part. As soon as I got to know you, that went out of the window. In class, you are really quiet and shy but that‘s a totally different story when we are alone.”

“Shut up, babe.” I blushed as Jack laughed at me. “I‘m so lucky to have you. You know me better than anyone does. I was in a bad way before I met you and you mean so much to me. I know that you took a risk to date me, and I want to thank you for that. I love you, Jack.”

We lay in silence for a good ten minutes before I decided that I couldn’t wait any longer. I’d arranged a surprise for Jack and I was going to wait until tomorrow to tell him but now felt like a good a time as any to tell him about it.

“Jack, what would you say if I told you that I had tickets for Fall Out Boy‘s homecoming show in Chicago in two weeks time and that all you had to do was find someone to look after Bella on the Thursday night because Matt has agreed to take her for the weekend?”

“I’d say that I had a pretty awesome boyfriend! Are you serious, Lex? That’s so cool! What’s all this in aid of?”

“It’s just my way of saying ‘thank you‘,” I replied, lifting myself up onto my elbows so that I could see Jack. “Plus, you‘re going to be rushed off your feet with work. You have the practical exams and you need to make sure that everybody‘s project is ready. I think that it‘d be nice to just get away for the weekend.”

“Thank you Alex, I love the idea and I can’t wait to spend a weekend away with you.”

I resumed my place cuddling back into Jack’s side, feeling a little sleepy. Jack had his arm wrapped around my shoulders, pulling me snugly into his side as he pulled the covers over us and settled down to sleep.

“Oh and Alex, just for the record; you were worth the risk. I‘d do anything if it meant that I could be with you,” Jack added as I closed my eyes and fell asleep with a huge smile on my face.
