A Life of the Plain and the Simple

Thirty-Seven

I was so happy for Nate. He was going to join us in adulthood responsibility. I was happy he was finally getting the courage to propose to Laney. She was a part of the group practically, and now she was about to join our little family within the band.

Today for me, I was taking a break from writing lyrics to write some guitar melodies for myself. Jack was taking time to play with the twins. He was also supposed to keep Izzy distracted, but that didn't work out so well.

"Mommy," I heard a little voice call. I perked up from my guitar to find my oldest daughter standing in the doorway with her toy guitar Jack and I got her for Christmas. I looked like my dad's old acoustic, since Izzy was so in love with his and loved it when he played it when he watched her.

"What's up, sweetheart," I asked her as I set my guitar on its stand.

"I want to learn how to play guitar like you and Daddy, and Grampa Alex and Grampa Jack," she asked as she came over to me, her guitar in her hands.

"Well you are a little young to learn guitar like me, Daddy, and your grandfathers," I told her as I scooped her up into my lap, "But I can teach you a really easy song."

"Really," her eyes lit up like fireworks, "You mean it Mommy?"

"Of course I do," I laughed lightly at her enthusiasm, "I wouldn't think of a cooler thing to teach you than how to play guitar. Well maybe how to sing is up there too."

"Teach me to play Mommy," Izzy held her guitar just like me. She had been watching me carefully to learn that.

"Alright so let's start with showing you the strings," I told her as I walked through the basics with her.

"Oh Mommy I can't wait to play for Daddy and Uncle Tommy and Aunt Aubree," Izzy gushed when I finished teaching her the easiest song I could teach her.

"How about you go show off your new song for me," I told her, "Mommy has work to do."

With that, Izzy was out the door and she flew past Jack without even stopping. I smiled and shook my head after her as I got my guitar off the stand again.

"I see she sneaked off on me again," Jack sighed as he took a seat in the other chair in the room.

"I taught her how to play a quick and easy song," I told him, "I was older than her when I got started. I think she'll be even better than I am by the time she's fifteen."

"No don't talk about her teenage years yet," Jack joked as he playfully covered his ears, "I like her this small and innocent. We can protect her easier at this age. So how do you feel about Nate's future proposal to Laney?"

"I'm so proud of him, Jack," I told him, "Nate's finally no longer left out of the group. He'll have his partner in life to start a family with like the four of us already do."

"I'm happy that we get to enjoy another wedding within our family," Jack said as I put my guitar on its stand before I sat on his lap, "So I heard from my parents that your parents might be considering renewing their vows. They've been married over twenty years and they want to do something special for their next anniversary. I was thinking, maybe we could give them a vow renewal gift of a honeymoon. We could have Liam and Noelle come sleep over at our house while your parents go on their vacation."

"That's so sweet, Jack," I gushed, "But we don't have a lot of room at the house for them to stay with us."

"Actually we do," Jack replied, "Tom and I decided to have practices at his and Aubree's house. I talked with my dad and I got two twin beds put into our attic for them to sleep in. Since our attic is a finished one, they will be warm and safe up there and the babies can't go up there and get hurt."

Everything was changing, and it wasn't all that scary. It was so comforting to know that we were growing up and so were all the little ones. Before long, Lacey and Lily along with Xander would be walking and talking. That adventure was going to be a fun one for sure.
