Find a Place for Me Again

Five

Today packing and departure day. Alex and I were flying with Zack and Jack to meet up with Rian, Matt, Danny, Evan, Grieco and Coloussy in Salt Lake City since they had the buses ready to go there. I was pretty nervous about flying since Alex knows nothing of my fear of heights. When he remembered me, he would always make sure I had everything I'd need for the flight and that I remained relaxed. Now I was freaking out since he doesn't remember. This was going to be a long flight.

I had my backpack with my macbook, my camera, and all my gear for both on my back. My duffle bag loaded with my bunk sheet, blanket, pillow, my toiletries and beauty supplies, and my bonfire blanket was slung across my shoulders. My luggage bag loaded to the brink of exploding with all the clothes I'll need for the tour was dragged behind me.

I had made it to the stairs after the long walk from my room at the end of the hall and I stopped to breathe for a moment. As I started to head downstairs, Alex came up and stopped me from going further.

"Hold up let me do it. Give me your luggage and duffle bag, Kenzie," Alex held his hands out for my bags. I groaned and handed them over. Even when he doesn't remember our relationship, he was still protective of my and trying to doing everything for me.

"So what's in your backpack," he asked.

"My macbook and my camera," I told him.

"What do you do for a living, if you don't mind me asking," Alex asked.

"I'm a freelance photographer. I'm working for AP during the tour as a pit photographer," I told him.

"So you'll be flying with us but staying on the photographer bus," he asked.

"No, Matt got the bus hooked up for me to stay with you during the tour," I told him.

"That'll help me remember you I bet," he smiled, making my heart skip a beat like it used to.

"Yeah something like that," I told him, returning his smile.
We were waiting to board the plane and my leg would not stop bouncing for the life of me. I was so fucking scared to get on that plane. I hated flying so fucking much.

"Are you alright, Kenzie," Alex asked.

"No she's not," Jack answered for me, "She has a huge fear of heights and flying doesn't help."

"Thanks Jack, but the last time I checked I'm Kenzie," I told him.

"Hey, everything will be fine. I'll make sure you're comfortable. I'll hold your hand the entire flight if I need to," Alex said as he put a hand on my bouncing knee, making it stop.

Once we finally boarded the plane, I sat in the aisle seat and Alex took the window seat. Once we were buckled into our seats, Alex held out his hand to me and I took it without hesitating. My palms were sweating and my breathing was labored and shallow.

"Shh, just relax and close your eyes, Kenzie. The flight will be over before you know it," Alex whispered in my ear.

"It's hard," I whimpered. I was about to have a full blown panic attack.

"I've got you, Kenzie. You're safe. Everything's going to be fine," he pressed my hand to his chest, "Just match my heartbeat and my breathing."

I eventually calmed down once the plane was in the air. I ended up falling asleep lightly. I could feel Alex stroking my hair as I leaned my head on his shoulder. I guess he's starting to remember a little bit more about me if he knew how to get me to calm down and fall asleep.
When we go to the bus, I was ready to go to bed and just sleep for a couple days. I hated flying and it sucked a lot out of me. I got onto the bus and I claimed a bunk in the front in the middle of the stack on the right side. Alex claimed the bunk in the back on the bottom of the right side and Jack took the one across from him.

"That's actually my bunk, Kenzie," Rian said as he came back on.

"But the bunk wasn't made yet. You've been here for two days already and the bunk should have been made," I whined, about to cry from how emotionally drained I was.

"He's joking, Kenzie. He's above you. Just make your bunk and get some sleep," Matt kissed my hair before I fixed my bunk.

"You're an asshole, Dawson," I snapped at him once I had my bunk made.

"You love me though," he replied.

"No I fucking don't. I love Alex but he doesn't remember me," I yelled at him.

"Kenzie, relax," Matt pulled me into his arms. (I should mention this to you, Matt is also my cousin. I'm a Flyzik)

"I can't Matt. He doesn't know just how much it hurts to look at him," I cried into his chest.

"Just get some sleep, everything will be better in the morning," Matt stroked my hair before releasing me so I could go get ready for bed in the bathroom.

I curled up into a ball that night in my bunk and cried myself silently to sleep. This was going to be a rough tour to say the least.

Comments

So I just read what you have of this, and I'm sad to see it was never finished. :(
It's a bit rushed at some parts, but I really like the concept of it. It surprised me that you had him gain his memory back kind of quickly; I thought for sure the twist was going to be he was going to lose it again or something. I found it a bit odd how that was kind of the plot for the first half, and then this second part kind of diverted from it. But I really like what you have of it, it's really sweet. :)
If you ever choose to finish it, I will be here to read. Although I think a final chapter wrap-up would totally work for this, if you're struggling for inspiration. Just a final update to conclude it.
You're a great writer, and so, I just wanted to leave a comment letting you know that, and to show that people are still stumbling across this and reading it. :)
