"Stop," I gripped Tori's hand to make her feet stop moving. "I need to go in here."


We'd managed to walk through almost the entire town, trailing close behind Matt and Alex. The streets were still empty, random blood smears on the bulidings and pavement, but there was no sign of life anywhere. It made me sick to my stomach. What if the infected had already taken over here? We passed so many of them before we got to this town, it just made me question how many of them were where we were going. Night was starting to fall on us quickly, which meant we had to get back to wherever these boys were staying pretty quickly, but since we were on foot I wanted to feel protected. So when a hunting store came into view, one that also sold tackle, I was not only curious as to where the Hell we were, but I wanted what was inside of that store.


"How many other people do you think have had the same idea?" Alex spun around, his eyes dancing over the blackness through the glass. "Someone could be held up in there, ready to kill the first person that tries to steal the goods."


"That's a risk I'm willing to take. My gun is the only thing we have to keep us protected and the last time I checked, it does run out of bullets."


"She's right, Alex, we do need something to protect us."


"Why do you keep agreeing with her on everything? I bet if she tried to kill me right now, you'd be okay with that, too."


"Dude-"
"I don't have time to sit here and listen to you guys whine," I groaned, getting down on my knees to be level with Tori. Holding tight to her arm, I placed a kiss upon her head. "I love you, Tor. I need you to stay here and keep watch again, okay?"


Tori nodded slowly, squeezing her hands together. She was afraid of the dark as it was, so with the sun sinking and the knowing that those freaks were out there somewhere, she was on the verge of a panic attack. I pulled her into my arms and told her everything was going to be okay before I sat my bags by the door, keeping the gun in my hands. I was just about to push through the wall when Alex grabbed my arm, once again stopping me.


"I can't let you go in there alone. I'll go with you."


"Don't worry," Matt spoke up, moving closer to my sister. "I got her."


"Don't tell me you're going to protect her if you aren't willing to give your life for her."


Matt frowned, but still, he let his arm slither around her back and pull her close to his hips. A small wave of comfort washed through my veins. Simply nodding my head, I motioned for Alex to follow me through the door.


A small bell was ringing above our head and Alex quickly grabbed it to silence it. I let out a long sign and nodded my head forward, allowing him to follow me. We checked behind the counter, the stock room and the single bathroom by the break room, all was clear. Alex took this as his chance to stomp through the building and start yanking guns off of the wall. He was shoving them in his pants, his shoes, under his arms.. Just about anywhere he could hold them with ease. I rolled my eyes and began taking my own weapons. My purse quickly filled up with ammo and knifes, to make me feel a little more safe, while I kept my mother's gun in my purse. On both side of my boots I managed to fit to smaller guns, but that didn't stop me from filling my arms up with some that would protect me a little better, though I made sure they all fit the ammo I'd already shoved in my purse. Alex would be on his own with that department. I even manged to snatch a gun for Tori, hoping Alex had done the same for his friends, but she'd have to wait until we were in a safer place to learn how to shoot it.


When we though we'd had enough, we quickly exited the building. Matt and Tori were curled up on the ground, talking and laughing with one another. A smiled made its way to my lips. It's so good to see her smile in a time like this. Her small mind would be forever warped.
Alex handed some of the guns off to Matt and I helped Tori steady herself with the bags before we began our journey again. We'd wasted a lot of time and I still had no idea where we were going. Small talk faded, we became more alert and more afraid for our lives with each passing moment. The sky was growing dark at a freakishly fast pace. As we got further into town, we walked twice as fast, to the point where we were running when the sky went totally black, only a thin moon to light our way.


Honestly, we were all out of breath by the time we reached an empty field that held nothing but what appeared to be a tour bus. Matt made it to the door first and held it open, telling us all to get inside quickly. The moment I stepped in behind Tori (with Matt behind me) and the door locked behind us, I felt a little more at ease. It was nice to see a place looking so.. Lived in, filled with life. But when I saw three men slowly step into the room from the back of the bus, I pulled Tori close to my side and took a step back with her.


"Where's Colussy?" One of them asked, making my heart sink. "Who are they?"


"We lost him," Alex managed to say, tears forming in his eyes again. "He lost his shit just like everyone else, there was nothing we could do."


Two of the man stepped away from their friends and walked back in the direction they came, cursing and sobbing all at once. This made me feel bad for what I had done, but they'd all be dead if they let him stay alive. In a way, I saved them.


"Who are they?" The last man asked, wiping a stream of tears from his cheek. "We shouldn't be taking in strangers."


"They're okay, I swear," Matt started. "This is Riot and Tori."


"All right, fine. But if they stay, they do their part."


Matt averted his gaze and Alex lightly nodded, which made me uncomfortable. What exactly was our part?
