I woke with a head splitting headache. I could hear the noises of the city nightlife starting to rise. I haven't grown used to the intensity of the sounds. My hearing is more powerful than it ever was, and I've been this way for a week.

I am not human anymore. I am a vampire; a monster. I have craved human blood for days, but I resist the urges and feed on the vermin rat population instead.

I have no idea on who I am, where I'm from, what I did before I was turned into this monstrous form. I only know my name and my age. I am Sophie and I'm 20 years old. I am lost and I am alone.

I've been chased and terrorized by the twin vampire brothers Kyle and Kaden. I refused to join their master, Dimetri in creating a coven and taking over Baltimore. I wanted nothing of this life, I was sure of that; who would want to be a monster from their childhood nightmares anyway?

I wandered the streets, lost and alone, each night. I was hoping to remember something, anything, from the night before I became this new version of myself. I was never lucky.

I did meet someone, witch by the name of Ivy. She noticed that I knew nothing of what I was and I had no memory of my human life. She told me she could tell I was not going to cause harm to people. I felt like I would not be a violent person when I was human.

"How was the hunt for rats," Ivy asked as I walked into her candle and incense shop she helped her parents run. Ivy is 16, meaning I only saw her at night due to school and me being a vampire.

"I got my fangs into four tonight," I told her, "Did you finish the spell on my neckalce?"

"I did," she replied as she draped it on around my neck, "Now you can go out into the sunlight and not burn to a crisp."

"Thank you, Ivy. I needed this so I can try to figure out who I really am beyond my name," I told her.

"Well I didn't find anything in a facebook search for you. Sophie is a common name," she joked.

"That's not funny, Ivy," I replied, a little hurt by her comment.

"I'm trying to lighten the mood, Soph, chill," Ivy apologized.

"I saw Kaden today," I told her.

"Please tell me he didn't see you," Ivy looked at me, "I am not in the mood to cast another healing spell for you if he got you again."

"He didn't see me," I told her, "But I think he was trying to find me again."

"Dimetri wants you, bad. He'll keep sending the twins after you until you bend to his will as his sired bitch," she replied.

"Which isn't going to happen," I told her, "But hey Ivy I need to get going. I need to go to work at the bar tonight. Thank you for hooking me up with my necklace. I owe you."

"Go get to work before your boss stakes you," she joked as I left the shop.

I finally got a break from slinging drinks to go catch a rat and drain it. The massive amount of bodies did not help the urges. I thought I was alone until someone cleared their throat, which made me jump out of my skin.

"I didn't mean to scare you," the man said, "I noticed you were the other bartender manning the bar. You can sling the drinks rather well."

"Thanks, I think," I replied, "Do I know you?"

"I hoped not," he replied, "I would hate to know you and not recognize you."

"I'm not all that special," I replied, "I'm Sophie."

"Alex," he replied.

"Sophie," my boss snapped from the back door, "You're breaks up!"

"That's my cue. It was nice meeting you, Alex," I waved and took off to go man the bar again.

There was something with Alex that I felt I needed to protect him now. I know his blood smelled amazing and he made me feel like my heart was racing, when I don't have a pulse anymore.
