One Shots! (Taking Requests!!!)
Broken Family... Beautiful Thing?
(Third Person POV)
"Dad?" Alex's 13 year old son Thomas Jordan Gaskarth asked.
"Yes Tom?" He replied turning his attention to him.
Tom hesitated for a moment but eventually spoke.
"Um w-what happened to mom?" He asked looking into Alex's eyes.
Alex gave Tom a sad smile and took a deep breath before speaking.
"Sit down its a long story." He said grabbing his acoustic guitar from the corner of the room.
Tom did as he was told and sat on the couch turning his attention to his dad who was sitting next to him.
"I wrote this song about a week after you were born." He said before strumming.
By the time I was your age, I'd give anything
To fall in love truly, was all I could think
That's when I met your mother, the girl of my dreams
The most beautiful woman, that I'd ever seen
She said, "Boy can I tell you a wonderful thing?
I can't help but notice, you're staring at me.
I know I shouldn't say this, but I really believe
I can tell by your eyes that you're in love with me"
Now son, I'm only telling you this...
Because life, can do terrible things
Now most of the time, we'd had too much to drink
And we'd laugh at the stars and we'd share everything
Too young to notice, and too dumb to care
Love was a story, that couldn't compare
I said, "Girl, can I tell you a wonderful thing?
I made you a present with paper and string.
Open with care now, I'm asking you, please.
You know that I love you, will you marry me?"
Now son, I'm only telling you this...
Because life, can do terrible things
You'll learn, one day, I'll hope and I'll pray
That God, shows you differently
She said, "Boy can I tell you, a terrible thing?
It seems that I'm sick and I've only got weeks.
Please, don't be sad now, I really believe
You were the greatest thing that ever happened to me"
Slow, so slow
I fell to the ground, on my knees
So don't fall in love, there's just too much to lose
If given the choice, then, I'm begging you, choose
To walk away, walk away, don't let her get you.
I can't bear to see the same happen to you.
Now son, I'm only telling you this...
...Because life, can do terrible things
As his father strummed the last chord a tear fell from Tom's eye.His father gave him a small saddened smile and wiped his tear away setting his guitar aside and holding him in his arms.
"T-that was a beautiful song dad." Tom said looking up at his father to see he too was crying.
"Thank you." He said smiling at him and hugging him tighter if possible.
"You know you're the greatest thing that happened to me." Alex said looking down at his son.
Tom could not speak.Instead he wriggled out of his father's grasp and walked over to his room.Minutes later he returned with something in his hands. He walked over to his puzzled father and set what he had in his hands into his father's.
"I made this for you when you were at work today." He said giving his father a small grin as Alex examined what his son had given him.
As Alex looked at what Tom had brought him he could not speak. It was this (To view in full size just press the x and scroll down) A framed collage of Alex,Lisa (Tom's mother/Alex's deceased wife) and Tom.
"I hope you don't mind that I copied these from your photo album." Tom said grinning shyly at his father.
Alex reached out and touched one of the pictures of him and Lisa.A tear slid down his cheek as he smiled at her beautiful face.
"Come here." Alex said setting the collage aside gently next to his guitar.
With that Tom came closer to his father's wide open arms.Alex wrapped his arms around Tom and whispered in his ear.
"I love you Tom."
"I love you too Dad." Tom responded.
