Never Grow Up

Tea Parties and Asthma Control

The bus finally pulled up at a gas station that was next to a pharmacy. I was so relieved since I had to get a refill on Kylee's inhaler. Due to her rough birth, Kylee developed asthma and needs to have two types of inhalers, one with her controller medicine and another that's her rescue inhaler. Kylee's asthma tends to flare up when we tour since we use a lot of deodorant on the bus and it messes with her breathing. You might think I'm a horrible father for bring my daughter into an environment like this, but I had no intention of making her live like this. I just make sure she gets the help she needs and I keep an eye on her. I also use unscented products so she's comfortable.

"Daddy, can I get this," Kylee asked as she held up a thick coloring book with the Disney Princesses on it.

"Sure, do you need new crayons too," I asked her as she put her book into my hand basket. I was also getting cold and flu medicine for her and I along with pain killers for when I get migraines from the lack of comfort in the bunk and having to sleep as still as possible so I don't crush and Kylee in my sleep.

"Nope, I have a big box and my crayons are still in good shape," she replied.

I grabbed some snacks and drinks for us before I paid for everything and left the pharmacy. I carried everything in one hand while I held Kylee's in another. Kylee knew better than to walk a parking lot without holding my hand. She knew she was too small and needed to hold onto me for her safety.

I got us onto the bus and stashed away our goods and I helped Kylee take her dose of her controller medicine and gave her her coloring book. I laid back in our bunk and got on my phone to check my twitter and instagram. I found the usual tweets from the fan girls as they talked about how awesome I was or how hot I was. I even found some about how cute I was with Kylee. The fans adored her; they saw how happy she's made me and they just fall over themselves at the vine posts I've made of her being adorable and the posts of us on instagram making matching silly faces or smiling together.

"Daddy, Uncle Jack wants to have a tea party with us," Kylee poked her head into the bunk.

"I see no problem in that. I'll be in the back lounge in a moment," I told her. I felt my migraine coming on and I took a dose of the pain killers I bought with some water before I followed Kylee to the back lounge where she and Jack had set up the tea party.

"Here's your crown Daddy," Kylee smiled as she held out the crown she had me wear at every tea party. I sat down in my spot adjacent to her and I put the crown on my head. Jack was in his spot across from me with tiara in place.

"Too bad she won't let you be the princess you truly are," I snickered at my best friend. He made sure Kylee wasn't looking before he flashed me his middle finger.

"My lady, I do believe that King Alex is being rude to me," Jack told Kylee in his best feminine voice.

"Daddy, we must treat our guests with sugary niceness," Kylee scolded me as she poured her pretend tea.

"Duchess Barakat was insulting my power over our kingdom, Princess," I replied in my British accent that I used as my king voice.

"Careful, Duchess, my daddy could have you removed from power for treason against the crown," Kylee waved her finger in Jack's face. I always giggled at home Kylee could pull on her bossy Gaskarth sass pants. I taught her too much of my sassy side that I created a monster.
After the tea party, Jack and I cleaned up the mess we made with Kylee while she watched her cartoons on the back lounge TV while she curled up on the couch under her quilt my mom made for her with her teddy bear tucked under her arm. I loved watching Kylee when she curled up when she watched TV; it reminded me of her mother when she'd curl up into my side as we watched a movie. God I missed her.

"Kylee, are you hungry for dinner," I asked my four year old once her tea party mess was fully cleaned up and put away.

"A little. What's for dinner, Daddy," she asked, not taking her eyes off the TV.

"I'm thinking hot dogs with potato chips," I replied.

"I'l' have some when you're ready for dinner, Daddy," Kylee looked at me and smiled.

"Okay sweetheart, enjoy your show. I'll be cooking dinner in the front lounge. Call for me if you need anything," I told her as I kissed her forehead before going to cook our dinner.

I was prepping Zack's grill to grill up mine and Kylee's hot dogs. I was pulled from my work when I heard wheezing from the back lounge. I dropped everything and grabbed Kylee's rescue inhaler as I ran to the back lounge. I found Kylee grabbing at her throat as she tried to breathe. I sat her up and shook her inhaler.

"Blow out as best as you can for me, Kylee," I instructed her as I put her inhaler in her mouth, "Now breathe in as deeply as you can so the medicine can work."

Kylee inhaled as I shot some medicine into her mouth. She held her breath for ten seconds before I put her inhaler in her mouth again.

"Alright do it again," I told her. Once we finished, Kylee started coughing as she caught her breath again.

"I was so scared, Daddy," Kylee whimpered as she wrapped her arms around my neck tightly. I wrapped my arms around her tiny body.

"I was too. Are you feeling better now,"I asked her.

"Yeah, thank you Daddy," she replied.

I took Kylee to the front lounge and had her sit at the table. I cooked up our dinner and the two of us at as the others scavenged around for their dinner. Matt and Rian watched Kylee carefully, knowing I had just rescued her from an asthma attack.

"I can handle Kylee on my own, guys," I told them, taking notice to their vigilance on my four year old.

"She scared us, that's all," Matt replied.

"Trust me, I was scared too. But I got her under control. Something trigger he attack and we need to be careful so she doesn't have another one," I told them.

"We can manage that. The crew will keep and eye out for her and make sure she's okay. Will you have her hold onto her inhaler for us," Matt asked.

"Yeah, her inhaler has a lanyard so she can wear it around her neck so in case she needs it, it'll be at the ready," I replied.

"Daddy I'll be better next time," Kylee protested. She wanted me to see her as my big girl that was strong enough to fight her own battles.

"We want to make sure you stay better. Your asthma needs to be watched. If it isn't watched, you could end up in the hospital and make me really sad," I told her. Hospitals tended to trigger my anxiety attacks ever since Kylee's mom died. I never want Kylee to see me fall apart.

Comments

I just read what you have of this, and absolutely love it. I'm not sure if that last chapter you posted was kind of meant as a final chapter; I guess it could work in a way. But the story is awesome and I really liked what you have of it.
It's been a minute since you've updated, so it's probably asking a lot to update again, but if you weren't finished with this and one day want to update again, I will be here to read. :) Although as it is it could be seen as conclusive.
Idk, but I just wanted to leave this comment letting you know I enjoyed what you did have of this and think you're a great writer. The story is very sweet. :)
