Family Memories

Stella's First Time Singing

Jules went to bed early, leaving me with my three and a half year old twins and four month old Liam. Liam was having a hard time sleeping on mine and Jules' schedule. I think Stella and Tom noticed too since they've shifted their schedules around too. I mean a screaming infant can keep a pair of toddlers awake that's for sure.

"Daddy, can I sing to heem," Stella asked, she was clutching her pink bear to her chest. I could tell she was sleepy and wanted her baby brother to sleep for a change.

"I don't see any harm in it," I told her. I set Liam in his crib and I moved the rocking chair to be next to Liam's crib. I scooped up Stella and had her sit in my lap.

"Twinkle Twinkle, whittle star, how I wronder, what you are. Up above the wrorld so high. Lika diamond, in tha sky. Twinkle Twinkle, whittle star, how I wronder, what you are," Stella sang, pausing often to catch her breath and remember the words. She made me proud.
Stella continued to learn how to sing. She was starting to learn my songs too. I was shocked at how much she loved to sing. I thought she'd give up because she didn't sound like me or Jules.

"She works, for the weekend. Mix tapes of her favowite bands. Tearing up the wadio lost in the sterweo sound," I heard Stella singing along with a copy of Nothing Personal Jules had in our stereo system. She was even holding a play microphone too.

"I'm dancing alone, I'm ready to go, but she's so," I joined in with her.

"Lost in sterweo, lost in sterweo," Stella sang back to me.

"She's out of control, so beautiful," I replied.

"Lost in sterweo, lost in sterweo," Stella sang again.

"I've been waiting for so long that she'll never know. I'm losing hope cause she's so," I sang.

"Lost in sterweo, lost in sterweo," Stella sang out to finish the song. I scooped her up into my arms, resulting in the little squealing and giggling as I kissed her all over.

"I am so proud of you, princess. When you grow up you be the best singer I've ever known," I gushed as I set her down on the floor.

"Rweally, Daddy," she asked, her doe eyes full of wonder.

"You bet. I'll even have you sing with me on a couple songs too," I told her as I kissed her forehead.

It was in that moment that I could see Stella growing up to be a musician like me. I could see her singing her own songs for thousands of people, to sold out crowds all over the world. I just hope it doesn't come too soon, I want her to stay this small forever so she can never have her heart broken by the vicious world out there.
