The Irony Of Falling In Love With That Girl

Alex Fucking Gaskarth

Alex’s POV
Matt has been talking to me all fucking morning about how this new girl is going to be touring with us to help me write songs, and warning me that I’ve got to be cordial and try to befriend her and at this point I’m ready to suffocate him. I don’t want to share my bus with another person, let alone a girl. We’re already overcrowded as it is. I also don’t need help writing songs. I’m just in a rut right now, but I’ll pull through. Besides, it doesn’t matter what I write at this point. If my name’s on it, it’ll sell.
“I sent Jack to get her and they’re going to be here any minute, so go shave and put on some real clothes so she’s not immediately appalled by you.” Matt says. He’s frantically shoving shit into bunks and trying to make the place presentable. Zack, Rian and I had only been here for a few hours and the place already looked disgusting. I run my hand over my chin. I feel some stubble under my fingertips and I’m still in my boxers and a white shirt, which I wore to bed last night.
“I’m not befriending her.” I say, “You’re lucky if I tolerate her.” And with that final statement, feeling as if I’ve made my point, I go back to my bunk to grab some clothes and I head into the bathroom to take a shower.
“You’re a fucking asshole, Gaskarth!” Matt shouts to me. Lately everyone’s been on my back about being a better person and I’m fucking sick of it. I turn the water on full heat and let it run all over my hair. It was going to be a long fucking first day of tour.

Victoria’s POV

I climbed out of the car still laughing at Jack’s perverted yet admittedly hilarious jokes he’d told incessantly in the car. I started to walk towards the tour bus, but Jack stepped in front of me and held a hand out. Suddenly, his tone was very serious, and that in itself worried me.
“I like you,” Jack said frankly, “And Rian and Zack will have no problem getting along with you. But Alex isn’t the friendliest of people.” Alex. That was the lead singer, I was pretty sure. “He used to be, but the more popular All Time Low gets, the more of a fucking diva he becomes, so don’t take anything he says to heart, yeah?” I nod, slightly disappointed but still very excited. We approached the tour bus together and Jack barged in. Matt greeted us at the door, a huge smile on his face. One guy was sitting on the couch with his phone out, apparently playing Candy Crush. He swore violently at the game and tossed it aside as we came in. Another guy entered from the back just as I set my stuff down on the floor.
“Hey!” Matt said, giving me a hug. I didn’t know we were on this level already, but I hugged him back anyways. “Guys, this is Victoria. Victoria, this is Rian.” Matt gestured to the Candy Crush guy, who was actually pretty hot.
“Hey,” Rian said, shaking my hand. He seemed friendly enough.
“And this is Zack.” Matt gestured to the other stranger in the room, who gave me a small smile as I shook his hand. All of the hand shaking seemed so formal.
“Where’s Alex?” Jack asked with a frown.
“Alex, get out here, now!” Matt demanded. Everyone was silent as a boy wearing a Greenday shirt and dark jeans rolled out of his bunk. His hair was still wet, but he was by far the most attractive member of the band, though the other three guys were certainly nothing to complain about.
“Hi.” Alex grunted, not bothering to shake my hand. “Can I go blow-dry my hair now?” He asked, turning to Matt.
“Introduce yourself, fucker.” Matt said. I laughed a bit but it only earned me a glare of distaste from Alex.
“Alex Gaskarth, lead singer, and song writer.” He emphasized the final two words. I tried to remember what Jack had said, but that sounded a bit personal. He had huge chocolate eyes and he was absolutely gorgeous. Of course he would be the hateful one.
“Nice to meet you.” I said in a small voice. “I love your music.”Alex said nothing in response, but instead returned to his bunk, grabbed a blow dryer, and headed into what I assumed was the bathroom.
“Sorry about him.” Rian said. “He’s a real douchebag, but he’ll warm up to you.” I doubted it. “You can have the last bunk on the right. I’ll help you settle in.” Rian picked up my bag and led me down the middle of the bus to my new bed. Jack followed us awkwardly and Zack plopped down on the couch. “So you’re lyrics must be pretty good for Matt to have hired you.” Rian said, trying to make conversation. I blushed a bit. I wasn’t shy until it came to my music.
“They’re decent.” I said, smiling.
“They’re better than decent.” Called Matt from the front of the bus. Clearly he’d been eavesdropping.
“Can you play us something?” Rian asked. I turned to Jack who looked all too eager and practically threw his guitar at me. My cheeks burned red, but I did love to show off, so I went to sit down on the couch with the guitar and the guys followed.
“Alright, well, this song is older, but it’s my favorite.” I said with a small smile. “It’s called To Live and Let Go.” Matt, Jack, Rian, and Zack were all sat around looking at me hungry with anticipation. My fingers begin to gently strum the guitar strings.
Rush of the past
I quietly crash and the tables turn
You're beautiful strange, defiantly brash
Be careful now
Kid you're a cut above
Always just a cut above the rest
If there's something left to be learned
Then my time is running
Why should I waste it all wasted on you?
I shouldn't be trusted to live and let go
When the last of my cities have burned
Then what's left in nothing
Why did I waste it all wasted on you?
I couldn't be trusted to live and let go.

By the time I reach the end of the song, my stomach is doing back flips. When I strum the last chord I look at the guys expectantly. Jack speaks first, to no one’s surprise.
Damn, girl!” Jack exclaims, scooping me up bridal style, “That was fucking incredible!” The other three guys are applauding.
“Told you she was good.” Matt chuckled.
“She’s better than good.” Rian says. He turns to me. “That was fantastic.” He says, “The lyrics and your voice and your playing.” Everyone’s laughing and I’m not sure I’ve ever felt better in my life. That is, until I see Alex, standing in the doorframe, watching. He said nothing and wore a blank look on his face. When he saw me look over at him, he retreated to his bunk. Damn him for being attractive and rude at the same time.

Notes

Sorry for the break. Long live you guys!
