Alex remembers the first time he truly felt protective over Faye.

It was about five years ago. The gang had been going out for some drinks, just to a small bar/club on the more downtown part of Baltimore. Faye had dressed her absolute best; a black short skater skirt, red crop top, and a pair of black leather boots that Alex had only seen her in before maybe twice. She looked damn good—he remembers now that he had thought she looked gorgeous. But that’s beside the point.

They had been at the club for about an hour and a half. Jack was off making out with some random girl, Rian and Cass were sitting in a corner booth whispering and giggling with her in his lap, and Zack was chatting up the pretty girl beside him. Alex was stirring his drink lazily, glancing around without any enthusiasm for what the night held.

Suddenly, he heard a short yelp. No one else had paid any attention; the thumping music covered it. But Alex would know that voice anywhere.

It was Faye.

He set his drink down and nudged Zack. “Did you hear that?”

Zack looked over at Alex. “What?” He paused to try and make out any kind of sound. “Dude, what are you talking about?” Alex gazed over each and every face of the people on the dance floor, not seeing the one face he needed to see. “Are you okay?”

He shook his head. “Faye.”

“What about her?”

Alex continued to seek out her face—seek out that long mane of brown hair. But he came up short every time, letting out a growl before releasing his hold on Zack’s shirt. “I’ll be right back.”

Then he pushed through the crowd of sweaty bodies, bypassing girls offering him a dance and dudes rubbing up against his ass. He finally found himself on the other side of the dance floor, his eyes narrowed as he sees a hallway leading toward the restrooms in the back. He shoved toward them, seeing red as he goes down the dinky section of the bar. As he turned a corner, his body locked up at the sight before him.

Some guy who had a tattoo on the back of his neck had Faye pressed against the wall, his mouth running up and down her throat as she attempted to push him off. “Come on,” Alex hears the guy mutter, “just relax, girly.”

Alex clenched his fists. As well as his jaw.

“Hey! Get the fuck off of her!” Alex grabbed the guy by the shoulders from behind before practically throwing him off the cowering figure of Faye. She just stared at Alex, wide-eyed and in disbelief. “What are you doing, you bastard?”

The guy had just rolled his eyes. “I was just helping my girl get started. Who the fuck are you—her father?”

Alex ignored the guy, turning to look down at Faye, who was nervously tugging at her skirt. “Are you okay?” he asked, grabbing her forearm, an anxious tone to his voice knowing he had just stopped this douche from…from…

“Hey!” the guy yelled before she could answer. “Why don’t you get the fuck outta here? Leave me and my lady alone for the rest of the night, huh?”

Alex couldn’t believe this fuck-tard had the audacity to talk about her that way. So with all the strength he could gather in his arm for being a 21 year old, he propelled his arm back and punched the guy-without-a-name right in the nose.

“She’s not your lady,” Alex practically snarled, wincing as he rolls out his shoulder. “Come on, Faye.” He grabbed at her upper arm, practically dragging her out of the dirty-ass hallway to come back out into the bar portion of the building. She allowed him to do this, still in a little bit of a numb shock from what just happened.

Once he had her safely away from the moron, he checked over her with careful eyes. “Are you all right? Shit, you scared me half to death. You don’t just let some random dude grind up on you! Especially not when he forces you down a hallway—”

“I’m fine!” Faye finally blurted out, her figure still visibly shaken. “Sorry. I just…I didn’t think anything like that would actually happen to me. I mean, I know you see it on TV and the news but shit I didn’t think some guy would actually feel me up and then attempt to make me do that. Oh God, Alex, if you hadn’t shown up who knows what it would have led to—” A hiccup had cut her off then, a small sob blubbering out of her throat. That’s when Faye started to cry.

Alex had gathered her in his arms, his mouth shushing soft words in her ear. He had done nothing but comfort her that night, done nothing but make sure she was okay. She was his Faye, and it had been his responsibility to protect her.

Which is why, in the here and now, he knew had to protect her from their secret getting out.

All throughout his meeting with the band, all through practice, and all through Matt’s long itinerary of the upcoming tour, Alex kept his mind on what he needed to discuss with Faye. How far were they willing to go? Would it get so far that they’d need to tell their friends eventually? What if he did something that Faye wasn’t up for and the inevitable happened?

What if one of them had to leave?

Alex shakes his head.

No.

They were more careful than that. They may have gained each other’s trust fast—scarily fast—but that didn’t mean they weren’t taking baby steps. Kind of.

“Can I leave now?” he practically whines to his tour manager once they’d packed up the instruments, securing them in the trailer that sat in Grieco’s backyard. Flyzik turns to give Alex a calm look, one that may have seemed calm, but had a glare of terror underneath.

“We leave for tour in three weeks,” he reminds Alex. “Have you forgotten that?”

“Of course not,” he replies back, just as haughtily. Why would he forget that he was about to leave Faye for a whole three months? “I would just like to go home, sleep in my bed, and eat my food as much as possible before we have to leave.” Which was all true, except he really wanted to go home and sleep with Faye and eat something that wasn’t necessarily food.

“Or he wants to go home and watch porn!” Zack is yelling from the trailer where they were locking up.

“Shut the fuck up!” Alex shouts back, grinning from ear to ear.

Flyzik rolls his eyes. “Yes, you can go home. And tell Faye that she needs to control you a bit more. You’ve gotten quite wild recently.” He gives Alex a short little wink before stalking off. Alex smiles wide. Oh, if only he knew Faye doesn’t even come close to controlling him.

Alex also makes his way to the car, almost sprinting because of the idea that he’d be home to Faye in just a short ten minutes. He slams the car door behind him and starts the car up quickly.

As he drove, he thought of what he would say to her, turning words and phrases and sentences and monologues over and over in his brain until they felt punctured into his eyelids. Would he really be able to say all those things? Be able to tell her that he wanted to stick this out, wanted to see where it went, wanted to see if it could last—but keep it from their closest friends?

A roll of nausea runs through his stomach as he parks outside of their apartment building.

What if she decides this wasn’t the right thing to do?

Alex pretends like the thought wasn’t even a possibility. She clearly was enjoying this newfound arrangement just as much as he was—or, at least, it seemed like she was. This wasn’t something you could just fake.

A few minutes later, he’s walking into their apartment. It was quiet. The TV’s volume was dimmed and Faye was lying on the couch. She was asleep; her arms stretched over head and her chest moving up and down slowly.

Alex grins at her peaceful state. She looked better than ever.

He gently sets down his car keys, kicks off his shoes, then lowers himself to the couch cushions. As quiet as a mouse and as gentle as an elephant, he spreads her legs so he could sit between them, her little nose twitching as her body acknowledges another, although she stays asleep. He chuckles under his breath, reaching up to grab her wrists in one of his hands, as he lowers his mouth to hers.

“Faye,” he whispers, breath blowing across her face. Eyelids flutter. “Wake up, Faye.” He sing-songs this part, pecking at her cheekbone. She sniffs and turns her head away. “Oh, don’t do that.” He uses his free hand to clutch her side. “I’d rather not spank you just after you wake up—so you better do just that.”

Movement in her face. “I…no…”

He laughs at her incoherent, half-asleep talk. “Get up, little one. I want us to talk and I’d rather you be responding rather than me talking to your blank face.”

There was more stirring before her eyes groggily open, her hands trying to instinctively come down to rub at her stiff face. When her wrists and arms make no movement, she looks up slowly to see Alex’s long fingers trapping her from moving them down. Her eyes narrow before she locks onto Alex’s vision.

“Do you mind?”

“No, actually,” he replies cheekily, running a hand down her chest and toward her waist. He cups her slim side expertly, feeling his lower region heat up already just at the fact that he could curl a hand around her body so easily.

“By the way,” she veers off into a subject quickly, “Lulu kind of managed to guess you and I were sleeping together. I was able to deny it fast but I’m pretty sure she’s still suspicious on the matter. So we might have to be super careful around her.”

Alex frowns a tad, averting his gaze from Faye’s as he releases his grip on her wrists. She scrunches her brows before grabbing at his chin with her slim fingers.

“What’s the matter?” she asks immediately, already seeing the distress printed on his features. That was the only con in their friendship—both could always tell when the other one had something bothering them. They were open books.

“I…I just…” he then pauses, taking a deep breath in order to compose himself so he may go on. “Are we planning on keeping this a secret for…forever? Or for however long this…” he thrusts a hand between the two of them to indicate their arrangement, “lasts? Are we just going to tip toe around our friends and make no physical contact while we are with them? Because that’s a shitty way to live.”

Faye takes in his question, trying to form her lips to make words but falling short.

Should they keep it a secret? Secret flings, arrangements, relationships—whatever it may be, are not easy to keep after a certain amount of time. What if someone did find out they’d been sleeping together? Not the extra stuff like spanking and bondage, but just the fact that two best friends had suddenly started having sex. What would their friends say? How could they not expect an extreme reaction? Faye bites at her bottom lip, wishing she could answer Alex in a logical way.

“I don’t know,” she manages out slowly. “I mean…I don’t know how long this will last. Can we really just come out and say that we’ve been banging each other for the past week?”

Alex blows out a breath, reaching down to run a hand over her neck. “No, we can’t.” He shakes his head. “Everyone will most likely want an explanation. And I don’t think we wanna retell how it is we started sleeping together…and other things.”

Faye giggles softly, making his grin widen. “I guess,” she continues, “we can just keep it to ourselves. That shouldn’t be too hard, right?”

“Easier said than done,” Alex mutters. “I don’t like the idea of not being able to touch you whenever I want.” To make a point, he pulls down the neckline of her shirt to reveal the cup of her bra, which he swiftly moves out of the way. “Obviously not like this, since if we did this in public we might get arrested.” Faye laughs, feeling her throat tighten as is thumb and forefinger pinch at her nipple, slowly making both her areolas harden. “But it’s hard not to claim my territory every time another guy even looks at you.”

“You’re quite possessive, you know that?” she remarks light-heartedly, her spine tingling just at the jealousy blackening Alex’s handsome face. Even though possession was sometimes a turn-off, the idea of him being envious of other men made her backside tingle in anticipation of a good spanking.

“For a good reason,” he argues back. His hand moves to her other breast, pushing down the cup of her bra so her second nipple was standing erect as well. “I can’t help it if my little Faye is so delectable I want to keep her all to myself.”

Delicious shivers pass down her body. “How flattering.”

He slaps at her exposed breasts, not so hard that it would leave a mark, but hard enough that it gave her a nice stinging sensation over her chest. “Don’t tease,” he chastises gently, rubbing at her with the flat of his palms to ease the slap. A moan bubbles out of her mouth. “I have the right to claim what is mine.”

“Hm. Yes, sir,” she hums. Alex’s eyes move to hers sharply, his eyes narrowing.

They hadn’t completely discussed any sort of terms when it came to this relationship. And both weren’t too eager to—they just wanted to see where it would go. But when she called him that, gave him that power and title, his dick practically turned to steel. His mouth goes dry as he watches her closed eyes, her at-ease face as he just pleasured her minimally with her breasts. Could they really take the next step this soon—from just fuck buddies to dominant and submissive?

Alex shakes his head. No. She was in no way ready for that. For now, it was just for fun. Just for the thrill and pleasure. He would never ask her to really become his for real. Hell, he wasn’t even ready for that.

“Good girl,” he just murmurs instead, hoping that he would have this all figured out before one of them decided to turn back.
